Relationship Note on Kaldur
And another of us who shared prayers at Setarco in 1008 is gone. Kaldur showed such kindness toward a child and his pet cricket. It is the gentle smile and the reassuring hand he placed on the child's shoulder that make a warm memory. It was a jewel of a moment emeshed in the horror of war and an example of the things for which we fought.

I offer prayers to Lagoma and Limerance in gratitude that Duke Kaldur has joined our family. It is difficult to believe that the outcome of Prince Damik'uhl'daja's voyage to Sungreet will be anything other than the staging a massive invasion of Arvum, as the probability of House Helianthus's diplomacy turning back a fanatic and enraged enemy seems nigh impossible. Duke Kaldur's foresight is likely to be the great aegis of my people.
Deep scars are left on those who have seen the sorrowful fields of corpses, looked on flames consuming places once beheld in the comfort and happiness of childhood, sought for beloved friends and found them gone. Again a great and loathsome enemy, bent on destruction and enslavement, threatens the Isles, the Eastern Coast of Arvum, the Compact itself.
Duke Kaldur has worked tirelessly to prepare Stormwall for what is to come. He is an excellent military leader - an organized man of great energy, who has seen the axemen and women of Crovane receive expert training and well wrought wargear. I am grateful for his efforts and his genius in the arts of war.
As for myself, I will take up my swords and fulfill my oath made after witnessing the destruction of my homeland. Having no expertise nor talent for leadership of soldiers, I must make my mark on the battlefield. The great warriors of Arvum have trained me well, and made my body and soul a weapon for the protection of the Compact and the glory of our gods. Whether under the command of the Princess Marian, Princess Reese, Grandmaster Preston, or Prince Laric, it is my desire to fight from the beginning of this campaign till its end.
I continue my training with renewed vigor and purpose, and seek the blessing of the Mother Mercy, Sister Sophie, that I might be ready when the time comes.

A bet has been made and I am excited. I do however recognize my own worst fault is my competitiveness, and incessant need to prove myself better, even if it is to myself. But I plan on winning this one. I look forward to the daily challenge and the well earned result at the end. Be prepared.

Lord Kaldur took what had been a child-like idea, more dream than reality, and turned it into something beautiful and real. Something meaningful for how it brought people together, no matter what Spring brings. I am humbled to be mentioned amongst those who helped, but as he gives me credit i do not deserve he also downplays his own efforts.
Lord Kaldur is a man who sought to help the Compact with a grand vision, one akin in challenge to climbing a mountain with bare hands. When the consequences became known of reaching so high, as with a rock pulled loose that falls to cause harm in a climber's wake, he did not despair. He dedicated himself to smoothing the path so it would be safer, he went back down in humility and gave his time to meeting with and helping others, to making it so we could better climb together the path he had forged. He is one of the best of us, may his dedication to the Compact's future always be remembered.

Relationship Note on Kaldur
A shipment of black pearls was delivered to me this morning, a massive crate from the Seliki holdings, carefully packed with boxes padded and cradled with wool and dried kelp, cushioned and, I'm told, slightly oiled to keep the sea-gems from drying out.
I've learned more from my patron in the topic of pearls than I ever thought was possible. They come in almost as many colors as sapphires, and as multi-hued as some Gemecittan crystals. My fingers couldn't stop themselves, straying over the trays as they were spilled forth. So beautiful, so -rich-, hardy and yet soft enough to carve.

In the next fortnight, I may have more items to restock my shop, but with -pearls-, my dears.

I think that was an admission of fault. And an apology. It was the most peace anyone has ever written about all this Stuff. And you have Fluff too. I don't forgive you. It hurts lots. Too much to forgive right now. I miss my friends lots. But thank you.
I don't know lots about politics. I don't know lots about being Compacty. I know I don't trust people with Fluff. And that all of this... Will make it lots harder to trust Fluffy people. Especially the ones who didn't care to apologize for their mistake. Or the ones who didn't seem to care that their mistake cost the lives of my friends.
Maybe it wasn't avoidable. Maybe you couldn't do better. Because you're humans too. I don't know. But it makes it lots harder when all you are doing is defending yourself, and not taking responsibility. It seems dishonest.
It's going to take lots for me to be more ready to trust people with Fluff because of this stupid, stupid road. I want to. I want to trust you all. But it's hard. Everytime I look at you people, I see the people who killed my friends.

Kaldur has taken ill - or has succumbed to a fatigue I can only imagine - and rests with his intended looking on. I worry for him, which is no new thing, but more deeply of late.

I am excited to see what this new transport network can bring - and whether we can connect to the waterways as we hope. There are certainly risks - attacks on the crews or traffic on the route - but you do what you can. If it fails, we try something else. We find another way.

It warms my interior to know that Dumpling is serving alongside you so well. Dame Zhayla possessed dreams of knighthood some day and I told her at the time that any knight worth their salt, at least knows how to ride. Marquessa Samantha and I came to the notion that in order to help Dame Zhayla pursue that dream, she deserved a gift befitting someone pursuing such a path. She never got as much time in the saddle as I'd have preferred, but a knight she became.
Your companion has a history and now a fresh chapter begins with you as her new companion. No matter what the future holds for either of you, it thrills me to know that Dumpling will not simply fade away. She will have renewed opportunity to make her mark and by the sound of it, already has in your affections. I'm glad that you can be of service to each other.

Ran across Lord Kaldur Seliki yesterday, having some sort of street adventure. Jumping. Looked quite dangerous. I can't really explain it. Thank all the gods he didn't get killed doing it, whatever it was. Hoping to have a drink with him soon to get him to explain it!

I had just met Lord Kaldur on our scouting mission. When we faced a creature which was giving us a brutal beating, I ordered him to protect someone and he did so without any hesitation, in spite of the great danger it presented.
