Relationship Note on Calarian

There are many days that I am appreciative of having married Calarian, and the differences in what we represent. Days in which I must attend a social event and feel out of place by those differences do not count.

The Marquis Wyrmguard forgot to tell us how much commoners had to pay to vote. What an embarrassing oversight!

Relationship Note on Calarian

Calarian Grayson has given this house decades of service, intelligence, honor and reserved personal strength. I have seen him put his personal feelings behind the good of the realm in even the most taxing and strenuous of circumstances.

House Wyrmguard seeks our best. I wish the couple the best of luck, that they may suit.

Relationship Note on Calarian

Prince Calarian, First Observer, is one of the bright lights of the Compact, and I have been consistently impressed by him. Both to his uncomplaining embrace of duty, to his ability to work through his grief to continue to do that duty, and then to tirelessly work to build bridges across the Compact and the organizations therein.

People often see strength in unvarnished, instinctive reaction - to say whatever pops into their head or their heart in that moment, to throw it out into the world, and let others deal with the consequences. And there is, in fact, some strength in that, much as there is strength in a wild swing of a blade that takes out enemy and ally both. But there is more strength, to my mind, in the ability to understand and respect interactions with others, to separate the personal from one's sworn duty, and to follow through with that duty - in word and deed - regardless of one's personal feelings or impulses. That is when words become slender, precise blades that cut only what they are intending to cut. I will always admire the use of a precise blade over a giant, uncontrolled sweep.

Relationship Note on Calarian

Certainly an astute diplomat, Calarian also seems to know some of his own limitations which is very good in a ruler. He seems devout and hopefully we can work together more in future.

Relationship Note on Calarian

We have exactly one way of freeing those that were bound. They were freed.

I have been an extremely loud voice in the preparation for this mission on behalf of the Abandoned. What's done is done. From what I've heard since, the right call was made. For that matter, you and others talked down at least some of those who actually did have a choice, and you somehow managed it in the heat of battle. Those you didn't? They had a choice too. They chose.

I'm confident that there was never going to be a better outcome to this encounter. I suspect if we hadn't caught them mid-hunt, you would have had even less success in convincing anyone to defect, because their Writ-bound leaders would not have been distracted by other prey.

Relationship Note on Calarian

The man who was husband to Peregrine of the Gold Feathers, gods and spirits keep her soul. I see something of why she tied her tribe to him now. He speaks of cooperation where others would seek only to subjugation and destruction. We shall see if we can make good on his fine words in the Gray Forest.

Relationship Note on Calarian

My cousin Calarian is quite amazing.

His way with words is powerful, but so is his wisdom, his fearlessness and his eagerness to act.

I am honored that he is helping me hold in the fundraise for the Thrax. I wouldn't have done this nearly so well without him.

I am glad that Prince Calarian is my cousin. I hope he never marries out of the family!

Relationship Note on Calarian

A few months ago, there was a regrettable incident in which I was blatantly disrespectful to you. While I was in my feelings about something that came to my attention, it was not the responsible or proper thing to do. As the First Observer and Voice of House Grayson you were well within your rights to correct me when I was incorrectly using a title that didn't apply to me. It embarrasses me to have reacted in the way that I did but I am not afraid to admit to my mistakes, of which I have made many. Who of us can claim that they haven't? That would be someone I'd love to meet, if not just to see what perfection looks like. Either way, Prince Calarian Grayson, First Observer of the Crown, Voice of His House, I, Lady Arianna Stonewood, Voice of Her House and any titles withstanding, do humbly apologize for my actions. In the eyes of the Gods, old and new, you have my respect for what you and the Crown have done for the Compact.

Relationship Note on Calarian

Prince Calarian believes that no bard will sing of his qualities, but I believe he is mistaken. The following is what I have penned. There's room for stanzas. His is, after all, the finest pen in the Compact.

Duty drives in Grayson gray, writ large upon the stage
Bold Calarian of Bastion, one among us
Armed with pen and ink, deadlier than warrior’s rage
For words shape thoughts where war might crush us
but peace forges links blazoned on the page.

Here is a man who wholly serves his House,
heart and mind and spirit these endeavors lent;
For the Crown and Compact took he a spouse
of the wilds, for men and spears and arrows spent,
yet by Limerance’s grace their bonds forged, roused—

Yet he lost her, her blood stained the forest red,
But duty sustained him, unfalt’ringly loyal—
He put love and duty over pride and marriage bed
and served the Crown, and won his Majesty Royal
a Queen, and peace, and alliance ‘tween peoples sped.

This is love of Limerance, family, and faith’s grace,
when a man’s passion he spends for fealty,
and trust in him could never be misplaced,
for upholding the family by the hand of the deity
is the best love of a prince, no matter how he self-efface.

Relationship Note on Calarian

While we didn't share more than a few words before recent times, I believe I can say now, Calarian is truly the cousin I can look up to. I'm eager to be in his company, for he has given me a chance and an opportunity to aid my House and my King. I have so much to learn from him.

...written in her own scratchy, near-illegible hand...

Calarian. Maybe I am bad for you exs--except for the swords I bring. Maybe there is no baby yet. Maybe I think you need to laf--laugh more. I think I am not a good city wife. But I am glad we married. You give me some smiles. If I live maybe there will be more.

If I die I tell the Gold Feathers to stay. To learn the city path. To help you learn ours.

Do not forget to feed Quork.

Relationship Note on Calarian

Prince Calarian Grayson. We sat for dinner with one another recently and from what I can tell of the man he is an idealist. Which is not an insult by any stretch of the imagination. He strikes me as being similar to another idealist that I know and who has had great successes.

While an idealist he may be, the prince by all rights seems to possess a trait which I find much more useful and sane. He seems to be possess an abundance of pragmatisism. Not to be confused with priapism.

In these dire times that is an invaluable trait and I look forward to seeing the prince's star rise. He also has a wife whom I have gathered is Prodigal. Together, as is undoubtedly to be expected, they seem to have a great deal of concern for the wellbeing of the Prodigal refugees.

Relationship Note on Calarian

A Grayson prince who has recently arrived within Arx. Reportedly brought a substantial number of Abandoned with him. I assume of course that they chose to bend the knee and become Prodigal. He informed me that his arrival preceded the siege by only a short period of time. I hope that he remains safe at the very least. Arx is a wonderful place this time of year, but it currently has a few uncouth visitors who should rightly be summarily sent back northward. Preferably in some nice sealed jars with a politely worded note to inform those far, far to the north bring closure to their aggression. Ideally these sealed jars bearing the Bringer ashes would be militarized in some manner.

I digress, of course. The prince showed ample respect for my service to the Crown, which I of course appreciate it. It was a sacrifice made. Even if it was a necessary sacrifice. Time moves forward though and here we are now. I'll say a prayer to the gods on the prince's behalf and encourage them to ensure his safety. Or at least put appropriate parties in place at the right time to ensure that he remains safe.
