This should be home, but it feels wrong.
Neither the luster of emeralds in twilight
Nor the myriad hues of all Tor’s sweet roses
Can mask what has been forever altered.
Once fragmented,
Whole.

Scholarly inclinations don't tend to run in the Kennex line though, so perhaps I'm just an outlier.

Change comes in many forms. Healing is change, and always for the better. The gentle touch of fire is change, for it gives us our food and our forges, our tools and our fields ready for planting. Self-reflection is change, for it helps us grow as people. Purification is change, to chase away the dark, to carve it out of hearts and homes, leaving the healthy behind. In the time before the Dance of Skulls, Lagoma was beloved among the Grace of the Thirteen for what she represents... but in the years since, we lost many of those early elements of her worship. What remains to us now are the Mercies, who enact change by tending the wounds and illnesses inflicted on our people, and blessed are they, for seeing us through.
"Healing the body keeps us alive. With the deep wounds fastened together, we are able to pursue our lives in pursuit of our greater self." - Fortunato
In the time of Caer'alfar, the Mercies were not alone in their upholding of Lagoma's many aspects. There were also Warmths, who focused on the beneficial and peaceful application of flame-- for flame is a tool in Lagoma's hands, not only a weapon. There were Beginnings who, with guided self-reflection helped an individual change and improve. Their Endings were those who understood the role purification plays in encouraging growth.
These aspects were lost to us through the ages, their formal role in Lagoma's worship, but we see echoes of them today. Echoes. But it's easy to forget what isn't named. When I came to Arx, I didn't think I was a healer for my work was with the minds and hearts of survivors of war, or with great houses seeking to mend rifts between their members. I was neither Mercy nor physician... but still I came to understand that my work too gave honour to Lagoma. A smith apprentice, plying hammer and metal to improve his craft, seeks his inspiration from Jayus... but it is Lagoma who smiles at how he hones his skill. Cascade Falls, built in the north, its shrine honours Mangata... and its community, supporting each other, building something greater than what existed there before, carries Lagoma's light as well.
"A thousand ways to scrabble. Scramble. Lagoma teaches us how to rise productively." - Fortunato
That she does... and like a flame, it need never look the same. A soldier, a healer, a crafter, a scholar, they can each do her honour in their own ways.
Change minds, heal bodies, mend ties, grow, improve, build. But always for the better. Perfection is, in many ways, stagnation. You cannot mend what isn't broken. You cannot improve what is already at a pinnacle. Change requires challenge too... our greatest changes often come from our lowest points.

Now I'm looking into sculpturing. I've dabbled a little and I seem to be doing alright, but I need to alter my thinking. A statue has to be standing on its own. The background is wherever you put it.

I think this is a painful truth. There are times when you will think yourself friends or close with someone above (or below) you, but something happens and the raising of those tiers will be especially painful even if perhaps it is not even purposeful.
For it is true--we are given different means to put hurt feelings and pride or even property or physical harm to rest based on the station of our birth or elevation and sometimes there is no way to bridge it in an efficient manner when it happens across commoner and noble lines.
How I have wished for an clear way to settle an insult and right a relationship as being able to call for a duel quickly and be done with it afterwards. I have thought if were that to be an option perhaps I would still have a friendship lost to me now, had I been able to express the weight given to their words and their impact with something other than my written notes...but that too is wishful and stupid thinking I know; it isn't as if duels always lay aside the animosities that bring them forth either.
It is a hard dance to know just how to measure one's steps beyond and back from that divide.

But whatever happened to fines? Is trial by combat the new thing? I mean, if that's the thing, most would take a beating and NOT pay, cause those fines can be hefty and most would be okay with a beating, not like those that do crime don't know how to take a beating - in fact, some might even know how to dish out a beating. Just a theory, I wouldn't really know.

Upon arrival, I immediately noticed a man seated by himself, and so I went and sat with him. Some time later, his sister showed up, and we began to chat amiably. In time, the subject of dancing arose, and I asked the Sage of the Diviners to dance with me. He accepted, and we spent nearly the entire evening, dancing and talking together, while flowers bloomed and petals rained down gently all around us. It was a pleasure matching wits with someone, as we tried to figure out who it was the other was dancing with.
In the end, as it turns out, I was dancing with one of the Marquessa's cousins! How delighted I was to learn it, though he was the winner of our little battle of wits, which I graciously concede. After this, we sat down again as people began to filter out, until we were among only a few left. Eventually, we parted ways as well, but it was a night to remember. I must once again give my compliments to Archduchess Regent Jaenelle for this lovely notion of a party, and I shall look forward to seeing more Lycene balls in the future. I think, after this, I am developing a taste for them!

So to make sure I have this right...
Ras met Shazza at the Inn.
Shazza razed Ras, got her ledger ruined by soup.
Ras buys new journal, gives to Shazza.
Ras then meets Alban. Makes more insults about soup.
Alban speaks out on this, Ras punches Alban.
Ras gets trial by combat, asks Jeffeth to fight for him, Jeffeth says something on the matter, but doesn't become his champion. The court assigns Brianna to be it's Champion against Ras, who has to fight for himself. Brianna says no, instead champions Ras, leaving the court in a lurch.
Do I have that all right? Anyway, heres my take on it:
Clearly Ras has an issue with soup in the city.
I find a good hearty stew more enjoyable, especially with the crusty bread that Violet showed me that comes from her homelands.
Make the kid work the kitchens for a while, maybe he'll get a new appreciation for the culinary efforts and stop insulting them and throwing them around willy-nilly.
Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
