You know, it's an interesting thing to consider improving one's armour. I still have the leather armour that Liliana designed for and had made for me. It's lovely, but it's very Farshaw. And it's probably well past time for an improved set. Maybe Oakhide. I shall have to look into that.

Slow week so far, but I am hoping for some more time working with Stray and browsing the shipyards. I am hoping to make a bid soon, probably on a longship. It is likely going to take weeks to get her crewed and provisioned, then I would like a contract rather than just footing the expense for a trip north, but we can use her to visit home and maybe to add to Ravenseye coffers.

I have the opportunity to learn a fascinating new language, and it's delightful. The language itself changes depending on the social relationship between the speakers. It would be, for example, one form of speech from a lord to his subjects, another to speak to his equals, and yet a third to address his liege. I'm told it varies even further, modes and vocabulary that shift with the nuances of occupation, family, age...

There is not one out there that would believe I was good at deception and misdirection. Well, maybe there are a few, but not those that know me well. I fear that I wear my happiness and my truth too close to the surface. Today, I got to learn the finer points of ly-- no, I don't want to say lying. It's more WHY a person might tell a falsehood to achieve an objective. It has been interesting to learn it. A different sort of situation and perception.

Funny how things can suddenly turn up in the city and no one seems to have an idea as to who put them there, what they signify or who they belong to.
I have to remember this if I ever need an idea for a prank.

There comes a time in everyone's life where they look to see what might be able to become of what they have created and what will be left behind. And then there are times in which you're left shouting from the outside as stepping foot inside would mean giving in to a concept that is only yet another division between the people. Though very few will ever fully understand this, so the easiest method is to come out from the corner, behind the dark desk with only a window to stare out of and talk with those around.
One will find the commoners, the lowers are much more attuned to the rampant insanity this city keeps finding of itself. And many nobles will only be left staring at what might be the ramblings of an old man. If it's not something in the design of pretty, able to be worn, or shown off - the use for the item is relatively low.
The experience of the time spent should be the direction sought. The moments in which many parties can all look to each other with a silly thought, yeah, that happened over there. Or was it there. To find yourself standing upon one such plate, as your feet slowly become wet from the small pools around in a mildly darkened room...

There is so much in this world that I have yet to learn. With each new door unlocked and opened, more questions and curiosities emerge. It is dizzying, but I would rather have to work to find my footing in the dark than live another blissful day in ignorance.

Of course they couldn't resist creeping and crawling where they weren't invited and never shall be. It was inevitable, if a long time coming. Unwelcome guests can be such a bother. I hope they'll reconsider any plans to pay us another visit. I don't think they'll like what happens if they upset Marigold.

I had never left the Saffron Chain before 1014, and now it's been three years in Arvum, three years on the mainland, this month. Three years, three names -- Pontelaeus, Proscipi, Amadeo. I miss my home, desperately, but now have arrived at a degree of permanence in which if I went back to Tremorus, I would miss what I built in Arx and Bravura.

Most of the time I keep my tongue behind my teeth, Scholar. It's a healthy habit to have in the Lowers, and what I've seen of life in the Wards only reinforces that.
But sometimes when a friend asks a question that isn't related to all that stuff, I say too much, or at least it feels like I do. Is it because I don't say anything so much of the time that I don't know how much to say when I can? Is it because they didn't actually expect an answer, and what they got was far more than they wanted?
I don't know, but the next time someone asks me how I am and then wanders off before letting me reply, I might get irritated.
