A diplomatic mission may not succeed on first try. But so long as one survives the attempt, there may always be a future attempt.

Of course, it may also be more difficult, depending on why the first attempt failed.

There. My words of wisdom for today, may they provide assistance to someone out there.

Squares. Nice, neat, orderly. Symmetrical and a breeze to stack.

Two entries on one day! I should find pore productive uses of my time.

I had a fantastic chat today with Lord Cahal yesterday over tea. He reminded of something I had jotted down whilst in the Oathlands...oh, a year ago, now. A scrap of a poetic verse. But I had never penned it, until now. It seems relevant, as I talk to the people of Arx about the past, and what we've lost.
On Seeking Knowledge
The bin of knowledge bloats
Dark gods suck it dry
Mankind cannot yield
Mankind cannot fall

To thirst, to strive, to drink, to thrive!
To seek, to learn, for new knowledge burns!

The bin of knowledge shrinks
Dark Gods’ bellies full
Mankind cannot dwell
Mankind cannot gain

To thirst, to strive, to drink, to thrive!
To seek, to learn, for lost knowledge burns!

My return to Arx and Keaton Hall has been both more busy than I had anticipated and more consequential. I leave my army encamped outside the city and after spending so much time with them over the past two years, it feels odd to be moving about without armor. To not be constantly worried about an ambush. To sleep in Keaton Hall instead of whatever quarters (or tent) I happen to occupy that night.

People have changed in my absence. Or, perhaps, I am the one who has changed.

The river Time flows swiftly past
Men change; whither shall they flee
For memory’s loss we lament
Mind cast back to youth we see

Relationship Note on Deva

I publicly apologize to my good associate for a remark I made upon finding out that the late Prince Swelvio Redrain nee Grayson had an unsavory proclivity for redheads. I hereby acknowledge that redheaded individuals are not a monolith and some are bound to have - and indeed have proven themselves to be in possession of - redeeming qualities.

Today's tea is a refreshing chamomile with hints of apple. It's quite delicious and goes well with scones and cream.
.
Or ginger cake.

Then again, everything goes well with ginger cake

Relationship Note on Vitalis

We have been friends for a bit of time. Perhaps for a long bit of time. I just want to say that I appreciate after all this time that I still get to learn things about you and from you. Thank you for existing.

It is an honor to have Ambassador Bahiya'al'Mathali as Patron, and a joy to craft for her. I look forward to seeing what we might learn from one another. Nothing brings me greater joy than seeing and hearing of the joy my art brings to others.

I have been busy with many projects, so I do not often have time to write journals. I have been spending many hours in my craft, and rehearsing ahead of the Rhythm of the World festival as well. Perhaps this year, I will not fall off my horse! Astaari and I have learned much from that experience. We shall see.

Well, it only took me two years to accept that he wasn't coming back. Looks like we're back to square one. Maybe I need another puppy? That'll help.

Considering the association of triangles, I think I'll choose squares. Easier to place in cabinets too.

Triangle, hands down. It is the more versatile of the two shapes. I would appreciate a message from my fellow triangle appreciator.

I posted this to the classified, but not everyone reads that, so I'm bringing it here.

What's Best: Triangles or Squares?

I've recently been in a heated argument with a friend of mine over the best way to fold rags, which are often used in cleaning several of our artifacts in the Explorer's museum. I'm team square. They are team triangle. What team are you on? Why? Why should I change my mind?

Convince me. Let me know your thoughts.

Did a trip with Elora to her family estate and we are will processing the findings. Since it is a private thing, I will write more once we have finished the reviewing and reflecting. Still no decision on a ship but the day will come. Meanwhile, looking into armor and continuing to learn about animal training. Family doing well here and hopefully soon we will travel North for a visit.

Relationship Note on Keely

I am very proud of my cousin, Keely. The person she has blossomed into. And no, I am not saying this just because she produces the most magnificent muffins every, as if out of thin air. She really is one of the best people I know and I think the world should know that too.

She is quietly fierce and brave and has a warm heart. We need more people like her in this world.
