What a day it was! After my recent self imposed solitary soul searching I was much too busy with matters relating to the Mercies to focus on what is truly important -my relationship and service to Lagoma. I surmise that it is normal human nature to become lost in the daily grind and forget the bigger picture of why we do the things we do.
I took a relaxing walk to the Shrine of Lagoma, and once there I spent an entire glorious hour in silence, simply communing with Lagoma and seeking her guidance in the months to come. It seems almost as if she was drawing certain people there today. Perhaps I'm being overly dramatic, but I suspect there was something much larger at work today and I can't wait to see what comes of the acquaintances that were forged today.
Archlector Roran was there, of course, and though I like him and respect him for his work I feel that he is silently disapproving almost constantly. I fear he questions my ability to adequately fill my post and I suppose, in future, I'll have to watch what I say to him. I have a tendency to tease and he seems to take nearly everything quite literally. As nearly half of what I say cannot be taken literally, it makes for a rather interesting conversation.
Lord Aethan was perhaps the most surprising part of the day. I left thinking I hadn't left the least bit of an impression on him, and that I would have to make a concerted effort to try to bring him out of his shell, and within hours he had sent, via messenger, a generous donation toward the purchase of new linens for the House of Solace. I have invited him for tea and cake. I look forward to discovering why Lagoma saw fit to bring us together in that most fortuitous meeting in the presence of her holy flame.

Relationship Note on Ophelia

I fear for all the songbirds that raise their heads before dawn, and those that sing an unwanted song. They might be gold-shot through the heart, their breasts skewered on the revenge of a Velenosa princess.

What have the birds done to move that fiery spirit to maintain such a fierce resistance against avian dominion?

I think the reward for solving any mystery is the introduction of a NEW mystery. The mysterious myth of mysteries --

I'll stop now.

It's like you're asking me not to breathe, Elloise!

And not dying a horrible death is a good thing, I will concede that. Even if I note, Thena, you didn't say that you solved the mystery of the mystery.

You're both going to make me drink.

Personally the only 'reward' I've ever gotten for pursuing a mystery is more mysteries.

But I didn't die horribly so there's that I guess.

Dear journal,

Really, I am looking forward to the gift giving.
When did it become more fun to give than to receive?

I suppose once I got old enough to be able to afford giving.

Relationship Note on Eddard

It astounds me every time I think that this is Baron Clement's nephew.

I met him for the first time at the incredible ceremony celebration for the Baron and Baroness' wedding. I'm not sure which of us was more surprised, more horrified. I will say that I look forward to future encounters. And songs.

My first week back was incredibly eventful! I returned to the Estate and my very first visitor was my dear brother, Luca. Well. He didn't exactly show up to see me specifically because he didn't exactly know I was back. We just happened to cross paths in a most fortuitous manner! But, still! He was there and I was there! And I hugged him until he turned blue because I missed him so much. My sisterly senses tell me, though, that something vexes him and I'm not certain what it is... /Yet./ I will find out soon enough. I always do. Until then, I will visit Luca as often as I can. OH! I almost forgot to mention that Luca's hair looked amazing!

Speaking of amazing hair... I attended a gathering (so many beards, so many brews!) at The Spirits a few days after my arrival and I was simply stunned by all of the big, burly, manly men with beautiful hair. I must admit that I secretly wanted to sit them down and braid their hair. When I wasn't admiring them, I met and became acquainted with Princess Nuala and Lady Amari, then bumped into Lord Vitalis by happenstance. I had such fun!

Oh. About Lord Vitalis. I might've volunteered him to be my date for cousin Jaenelle's upcoming Feast of Senses. I RSVP'd and wrote his name without exactly telling him about it first. Oops! He didn't run screaming after he received my messenger, so I'm taking that as a good sign! Or maybe he did and I just don't know about. I assume he didn't. I /hope/ he didn't. Well, I'll find out if I wind up dateless that evening.

Lady Delilah is a gem, I must note this fact. We met in the aviary at the Menagerie and NO I was NOT hunting the birds! I was simply /admiring/ them from a distance. I did have this overwhelming urge to practice archery when I returned home, though... and I suppose I will accept blame for the not-so-mysterious disappearance of birds around the Estate again. I'm going to start carrying my bow with me because you never know when it'll come in handy.

I've an urge to watch the Champions duel, too. Perhaps I can volunteer someone to go with me! Because that's how that works, right? I see you, Scholar, rolling your eyes at-- oh, look! A songbird!

Relationship Note on Valencia

I echo Princess Valencia's excitement at the upcoming Sip and Spar. It was quite generous of her and the Golden Hart to dedicate the next iteration of this event to raising resources and other funds for the Lodge of Petrichor. As much as strong sword arms, we require the materials to prepare the defenses and weaken our enemy.

With a successful event, we will be even further along in our preparations.

Hmm. War with shavs, while costly in lives, tends to be good for other sorts of business. Expect the weapons, lumber, and steel trade around Ischia to rise. Of course, anyone paying attention to previous developments in this area should not be surprised! The southern Lyceum should be a good place to ship the war goods of war for a bit. One thing in reading the proclamations that I did not understand: What is a Platinum Ban? There isn't enough of the stuff to warrant banning it, really! And it's harmless - or as harmless as any shiny metal that represents a great deal of wealth can be. Which means that when people die over it, it's usually malice, and not an inherent property of the metal. I think. I haven't really ever had enough platinum to test that! Maybe it's actually secretly poisonous?

Relationship Note on Brogan

Once again the ice bear climbs off the mountain just in time for war.

Even if this is a different sort of battle from the last, the irony doesn't escape me.

It's good to see you again my friend.

Even if sometimes I just want to punch you.
