Judicial courts of law have existed in Arx as long as the city itself has existed, in various forms throughout the city's history. Since the end of the Crownbreaker wars the courts have been splintered and weakened, bodies for arbitration or petition the crown, or the occasional crime meeting a certain scale of notability.

The judicial reforms of 1006 brought the Court to its current status as a unified body with codified authority, and with a much more open stance about its workings. It remains to be seen if this new court will survive crisis better than the previous ones.
