Lord Alessandro Greenmarch

If you have eliminated all doubt from your soul, you must have eliminated all reason from your mind, for there is no true certainty in the world, save that the sun comes up in the morning. And even that, I'd wait until morning. Just to be sure.

Description: Strong bone structure and the lean lines of Alessandro's features combine for an impression of sharp elegance. His cheekbones can probably not actually cut diamond, but it could be a near thing. His eyes are pale and clear, of startling focus and intensity, beneath high-arched, thick, dark eyebrows. Their pale clarity is contrasted with the warm tone of his skin, dotted by occasional freckles. The dark waves of his hair are such a dark brown that they are nearly black, but in direct sunlight glint with deep mahogany highlight. Tall, lean as a rake, and impeccably dressed, Alessandro's looks are dynamic; at rest, features that might be ill-fitted are given an arresting allure by his personal vitality.

Personality: Alessandro has mastered elegance the way artists master their craft, and it shows in everything he does. He pursues knowledge for its own sake, an eclectic, thirsty mind with a keenly energetic spirit behind it, and always has a spare pair of reading glasses in his pocket so that he can take them out and clean them with a monogrammed silk handkerchief. His will is indomitable and contrarian. He is fiercely passionate about his work, and fiercely, intensely protective of his family. He also has a keen sense of the ridiculous, and a deep -- if buried -- ability to recognize his own paradoxes and make fun of himself. But privately, if you please. Dignity is key.

Background: Alessandro was a youth who pushed limits. He got into trouble a lot, and set his overbearing will against the dominance of his elders generally and his parents in particular. He was a handful, a struggle; generally, a big pain in the neck. As he grew older, his mischief grew more obscure and intellectual. His favorite game began to be pitting his intellect against that of instructors he believed couldn't keep up with him. Of course, when he was 12, it turned out he was rarely right about this -- the amount of knowledge an active preteen can absorb, no matter how much time he spends in libraries and harassing scholars for information, is not really a match for most trained adults. But he never really lost his taste for the game.

He hated sword lessons. He hated learning about poisons and antidotes. He was fortuitously allergic to horse dander and exaggerated his allergy to get out of more and more things so that he could spend more time with his books. He learned etiquette and mastered it expressly so that he could push the limits of being rude, and, enchanted with his own cleverness, earned himself several enemies in Lenosia's court. At least one of them is dead now, and it can't actually be traced to Alessandro at all, but he's always been on the lucky side.

Theology lured him, especially the theology of doubt, and while his cousin Isolde soared into the panoply of the Mirrormasks and reached heights of elevation as a disciple leader, he personally found much more lure in the practicum of their craft, and focused himself almost entirely on the scholarship of law and politics. By the time he defended his first case as a Mirrormask serving in the Court of Lenosia, he was certain he couldn't lose, because he knew the law that well.

It turns out there is more to defending a case than being right, though, and Alessandro learned some humility in practice that he had never had before. A perfect record is impossible as a defense attorney, but defending the indefensible is the greatest challenge of Faith for a Mirrormask, and Alessandro grew skilled in the balance of ego and humility, doubt and certainty, necesssary for the work. He also learned very valuable lessons from his family about the critical impact that sartorial perfection can have on one's effect.

  • Name Summary
Aahana A very knowledgeable lord and wonderful guide to the Hall of Heroes
Agatha Lorenzo's brother, the Very Smart Redhead's betrothed. What happens when three bears and two foxes walk into the Oathlander bar. I wonder if we drank all their whiskey
Aisha A Mirrormask and quite ambitious. His company is enjoyable.
Ajax A man of coin, always useful those. He seems to have an interest in his troops, that'll go far with me.
Alaric Sharp, witty, and an advocate in the truest sense of the word. And I had an excellent time at his wedding!
Alarissa An eloquent man, who does his best, even in the face of impossible odds.
Aleksei Not his wife's best friend, it would seem. Kind of sad. Poor guy.
Alexio A fellow southerner -linked by marriage to the Oathlands; with an outstanding fashion sense. A spiritual leader and mentor in matters of the Thirteen. I look forward to learning more from him.
Alexis Prince Alessandro Velenosa, soon to be Lord Alessandro Greenmarch. He seems of an easygoing nature and I'd say he'll find a good home in the Oathlands.
Amari I hope one day to take his measure in a real trial. I suspect he held back, but would be a formidable, if not dangerous opponent when the stakes were true. He is perhaps too handsome though. That might be an unfair advantage.
Apollo He's ridiculously pretty, which I'm sure is helpful in literally any other circumstance.
Appolonia A mirrormask understands duality better than most so it is no surprise this one gives a good sermon about such things. It is always a pleasure to meet one, they always remind me of many things I appreciate in life. Perhaps I can speak with him sometime when he has more time to entertain one
Arcadia Another scholar. I wonder if he laughs or does anything but read books.
Arman A more distant nephew and one I am not near as acquainted with as I would like to be.
Arthen What a clever man. I met him just in time to watch him throw the famed Minx of the Marches for a loop. Leave it to a Lycene, eh? Polite, too. A good conversationalist.
Artur I am eternally grateful for Lord Alessandro! He is by far one of the most exceptional proteges in all the compact and his financial acumen has been of great assistance to me. In addition to all of this, he's helped me look into a number of personal matters of great importance to me. A loyal friend indeed!
Artur Alessandro is the best former protege in Arvum! What started out mostly as a business arrangement quickly became an amazing friendship! Now he's like a brother and I know there are so many more adventures still to come!
Athaur A rather new member of House Greenmarch. But he seems a friendly sort. I look forward to working with him
Austen Cousin to Monique, a cheerful sort, definitely an interesting undercurrent of humour there.
Barric A recent Lycene turned Greenmarch Prodigal or Valardin, not sure, it's not been Valardin for long. Seems a good man though, easy to talk to and friendly. That's high enough marks to want to see him and speak to him again.
Berenice One of my most clever of cousins. Even if his brother is the better hugger.
Bethany Exactly what I was taught a nobleman ought to be.
Bianca Quiet, direct and polite. All qualities I find incredibly valuable. I hope that in the future we will find more reason to work together.
Bliss Ah, Prince Alessandro Velenosa. So much charm and grace in one man - and mischief, if I am reading him right. Of course I am. He's a Fox. I somehow get the sense that I could get into so much trouble with him, and he would only encourage it further. I like that.
Brady Tastefully underwhelming. I'd almost forgot who we were talking about
Braith A Master Of Glasses! What fortune and good luck was I to have! Skill, talent, killer smile and my senses scream 'Married'. Sad day for Arx ladies! Mourn and then get back in the saddle!
Caith Oh dear. I met him when I was explaining to Prince Ettore (or is it Prince Mydas? I am not really sure) about some social misunderstanding at a ball between Princess Saoirse and Duke Harlan that I happened to witness and was helping to set straight. It involved one of my more embarrassing moments and .. GOSH. I really hope he forgets all about it. Can brains forget such things? I hope so.
Calista Though he may bear the name Greenmarch now, he is Velenosa through and through. He has an intelligent mind and a sharp business ethic. Certainly one to watch.
Cambria Definitely brave. No tall tales required.
Carmen Suppose there are worse things to look at while practicing my perception.
Caspian A man who is a quick learner, he learned that you keep the blade of the knife AWAY from your throat!
Celeste There's something pleasing about getting to spend a morning with another who wears the Mask. Lord Alessandro was a nice distraction and a great mentor.
Clara I usually find meself enjoyin' the company of people with a brain but I feel that Lord Alessandro might be even more exceptional than most scholastic types. I am thankful fer his assistance in improvin' me financial skills an' I look forward ta speakin' with him again soon.
Constantine A polite and decent man introduced to me through my brother Niklas and his wife Sabella. He seems a man of intellect and I hope to cross paths again.
Coraline Charming man, but yeesh if I blush anymore around him I dunno what he will think!
Cristoph He must have seen him shoot a bow-- oh, no. That wasn't him at all. Nevermind. No, Lord Alessandro is wonderful company, gracious and amusing and apparently an endless fount of surprises. What other things has he been involved in?
Cullen My brother-in-law to be. A lawyer, Mirrormask, and Prince of Velenosa. What could go wrong? I've been told he's a good person. We'll see. Our discussion certainly didn't make me think that family dinners are going to be comfortable...
Cullen Despite my ignorant reaction to him at first, he is a wonderful addition to the family and a loving husband to my sister, which is precisely all I could ever hope for on both counts. But he's also quite intelligent with an amusing dry wit which is quite enjoyable to witness - I am quite glad he forgave me for my initial asinine behavior.
Cullen Polite and well-spoken, Margret married well. I am embarrassed to have been the cause of friction towards him. I have the chance for a fresh start, it will not be squandered.
Cybele Mirrormask going to the Oathlands. And yet, upon reflection, maybe they are not so different. Heh. Reflection.
Delilah Singularly the most unique of the Greenmarches I've yet met, for he blends those Lycene sensibilities to a freedom of thought and spirit among the house. A smart man with a deft talent for turning words, he'd be someone I reckon has a bright future scribed on destiny's rolls.
Denica I would not have found the party if not for him! A great finder.
Dominique Rather pensive and quiet. That usually means he's thinking and observing and putting things together. Or he just knows that it's better to be quiet and thought of as smart than to speak and be thought of as a fool.
Domonico This Lord does have some interesting insights into the movements of the Malvicis. Somewhat amusing.
Donella The man was interesting the last time I saw him. Then I heard he got elevated to a voice. There is something far more intriguing to a man that manages to do this. I am going to have to seek him out soon to see how this was accomplished.
Duarte An easy to talk to prince.
Ectorion A valiant effort and a good sport in defeat.
Edain Though he seems to hold to stoicism, not unlike myself, I'm inclined to place my trust in Lord Alessandro. The company he keeps speaks volumes, but more than that, the man has a forthright directness that is endearing.
Eleanor Lord Alessandro's legal advice was recommended to me by Father Aureth, and it was (unsurprisingly) an excellent referral. He had such a prompt answer to a complicated problem, I was very impressed! Very nice, too, even if he wouldn't let me pay him.
Elgana The perfect complement to Lady Margret, I think. I see in him wisdom and a quiet strength, a keen intellect. He is one to watch for.
Emmelline A very complimentary sort of gentleman. I do hope him and Lady margret all the happiness.
Emrys Diligent, I had just arrived when he reached out. Yet he must be commended for it. Nor did he waste my time with an unworthy project. A good man, that one.
Etienne A practical, informed man willing to take the chances that matter.
Eurion Ah a true gentleman! And one witha sense of humor. A pleasant surprise to say the least.
Evaristo Humorous and all around nice, from what I can tell. Considering how much others have talked about him, it feels almost as if I know him already. I got a feeling we'll get along just fine!
Evonleigh Lord Alessandro is he always seems to have a beverage in hand to bestow upon me. That is only the beginning of his very fine qualities, the others being that he's friendly, witty, and intelligent -- all good things in a friendly face.
Ezekiel He did so seem to enjoy my music! He seemed quite nice.
Fairen An exceptional student. Any educators gem.
Faruq Supportive of his employees social lives. Which is more than some.
Faye A sharp man, good at asking questions and coming up with fresh ideas. I look forward to talking to him more in the future.
Fecundo Did he marry for love? He went from being a Prince to being a Lord and is happy. Can't fault that.
Gareth A Velenosan prince who seems to be a decent and polite sort. Fitting for his position.
Gaspar Perhaps the best "not a poet" poet I've ever heard. It's good to see him again. He always was better looking than me and what do you know..he still is!
Genevieve Friendly, agreeable and easy-going, from what I can tell. He seems like the sort of person who could get along fine with most people.
Giada It's always nice when people let me do my job. Seriously.
Gianna A rather scholarly noble; he takes his research very seriously, and the results are impressive.
Gilroy Noble lawyer. I thought these guys weren't supposed to have jobs.
Giulio A studious fellow. I do look forward to speaking with him further, though words of caution may be required.
Gretchen And impressive competitor who knows his poisons. I expect nothing less from a lawyer.
Gwenna Lord Alessandro, now Greenmarch, is Lorenzo's brother and a man I heard so many wonderful things about. While we did not get a chance to really speak at length at his reception, it is easy to see why Lorenzo adores the man so. Warm and kind to those who have his affections, I look forward to more opportunities with he and Lady Margret.
Hamish Lord Alessandro may be a Mirrormask, but his keen understanding of the law and justice shows strong favor from the Sentinel as well. An excellent lawyer who cares for those he defends. Even Orathy Culler.
Harlex Clever as they come, easy enough to see. It'll be as needed as my sword, for what's to come.
Harper Mask man definitely fits him. I got a real strong feeling that there's more going on in that head of his than he's showing.
Helena A scholar and a gentleman, quite literally. But also warm and friendly and witty. I see why Elgana is so fond of the Greenmarches.
Hickson A lord with immense knowledge of the most interesting subjects, and a truly engrossing and generous teacher.
Ian It's not going to go well for him if he doesn't stop messing around with mirrors.
Ignacio Prince Alessandro Velenosa... While not my first meeting of Cadenza's cousin, it seems like it to me at no fault of his own. He seems to be a solid man with a good head on his shoulders. I am sure we will get along nicely.
Isidora A Mirrormask. I am never certain how to handle the followers of Tehom. Must be the Oathlands in me.
Jacali My, what stories he's got to tell, what secrets I should pry free. We should be fast friends, indeed.
Jael Not much of a rider, or a fighter. Fast talker though, which is definitely useful in the right circumstances.
Jamie I saw the way he looked at Margret. How he watches her and watches over her. It makes me rest easier at night knowing he is a present force in her life. He is very observant and probably sees right through a simple man like me. Though I am only now getting to know him, I already know I can trust him. His ability to earn that trust so easily is both infuriating and impressive.
Jeffeth A prince that seems quite taken with Lady Margret! Good for them! But he claims he has never slept outside. How?!!?
Jenessa A very kind Prince who offered to assist in furthering my education on investigative matters. Like myself, he has a love of learning - I think in this I might get along with him quite well. A friendship to pursue in the future, perhaps. I would like to speak with him again.
Jordan We've met a few times. He's soon to become a Greenmarch thanks to a marriage with Lady Margret. By all means he's a socially adroit man who seems very resourceful in many ways. I look forward to seeing what accomplishments he'll bring to history, as not all men need to wield a sword to be able to do so. Some can carry words just as well.
Josephine A good man, with the patience for an old woman who needs to learn about the tall tales of heroes of Arvum. Av ery lovely Greenmarcher.
Katarina Former Lycene Mirrormask turned Oathlands Mirrormask through marriage, Katarina found him to be a rather charming fellow she encountered briefly in her time mingling with House Greenmarch.
Kenna I'm FAIRLY sure I saw a sense of humor there, but it's also possible I was wrong. I don't think I am though. He was so very sweet to Lady Margret, which is why I think that.
Kutazer What a charming Lord of Greenmarch! And just the sort I can converse with too, well read and clearly intelligent. It was an honest pleasure to meet him, and I hope to know him better.
Lianne Effortlessly restrained without falling dull or flat. Potentially compelling, even with so little shared.
Lorenzo My noble older brother always has such creative ideas.
Lorenzo My dear brother, whose company I always enjoy, even when his teasing is merciless. Who would I tease without him?
Luca Can there ever be enough charming Velenosan princes? Surely not, with the haste by which they're snatched up and married off. This one's a Greenmarch now! A Fox in the Land of Oaths. How interesting. Still, the Lady Margret seems to compliment him well. He's a cousin I really should be careful to keep up with more. It can be so easy to lose track of family in the day to day.
Lys He's quite the intellect and a very patient teacher. Patience and smarts: One couldn't ask for more in a tutor.
Mabelle Lord Greenmarch. Pleasant to have around even in the most dire circumstances.
Magpie Magpie is a big fan of compliments and some of the first words he exchanged with Alessandro were as much. The man wasn't afraid to speak his mind, nor defend it. He was quite polite for a prince, and seemed rather attentive even to casual conversation. Of course, one would be a fool to take a Velenosa prince at face value, especially a lawyer.
Malcolm Met once. He's another Scholar. Real smart, yeah, and he seemed interested in the Shepherd manor's library. One of these days.
Marian Finally! I get to meet Margret's husband when we're not surrounded by wedding guests. He's a nice fellow and seems well suited for my cousin. I'm glad to see that he's fitting in nicely with Greenmarch.
Marisol Lord Alessandro. Magistrate. My mentor and tutor. Lord Alessandro is of good humor and generosity of spirit. It is my pleasure and honor to be his apprentice in the teachings of the law. I could not ask for a better man to see to my lessons. The more time we spend in each other's company the more certain I am of the right decision made.
Marius A thoughtful man that seems to view the world at a bemused distance. He will be an asset to the family.
Marius It's not a regular thing: Delightful Velenosa mirrormasks marrying into Valardin houses full of prodigals. Yet here we are, and I couldn't be happier. Alessandro has proved to be a staunch ally and a wonderful friend.
Martino An elegant man of fashion. Attended the Fashion Show and gave us his cheer. Good gentleman that also knows how to properly escort someone.
Melody He calls himself a lawyer, I call him /wonderful/! He's not half-bad, honestly!
Merek Quiet guy, Merek thinks he is a nice enough Prince however!
Miranda Alessandro's retainer, Rodrigo, was very sweet - trying not to show his tears of joy at the happy couples' union at the gardens!
Mirari One of the Velenosa cousins, I try to keep an eye on all of them for Eleyna's sake, but there are so many! I made him a mirrormask, and I recall that he liked it. I should get to know him better at some point, one never has too many friends.
Mirari I can totally dig the strong silent type.
Mirella Clever and educated, but of course one would expect him to be. Carries himself well too; again, to be expected. There's something else there, though. I can't quite put my finger on it.
Mirk More Northern than I expected from an Oathlander. Plays things close to the vest, so it's hard to get a read on him.
Moira The Velenosa Prince, the one destined to marry into the Greenmarches. Gracious, polite, friendly. Maybe one day he can be a noble patron.
Monique The nerves are all in the eyes. I make him nervous. I suppose that's better than any number of other things. At least he's polite. Far more polite than I am.
Morgan So, I go in hollering and running, and this guy? Remains unfazed, playing some weird game with glasses or cups. Unshaken like a pro. Funny too!
Niklas Easily the most agreeable Prince I've met since coming to the city.
Niklas My good friend, the former Prince Alessandro. Delighted to see that he and Margret finally made it official.
Niklas Without a doubt one of my best friends.
Norwood He seems a very serious gentleman with a suspicious lack of desire for sweetness in his tea. I suppose I cannot hold it against him though.
Orathy Reckon he be concerned bout givin fair rights to those of us common folk who be pushed around by the law.
Orazio A Mirrormask and a Velenosa Prince. A combination often fraught with danger, but Orazio has enjoyed his conversations so far, and appreciates his conversational skill and charisma.
Oriana His struggle does him more credit than I think he gives himself. I hope he comes to understand that.
Oswyn A scholarly noble with a knack for research, as I understand it.
Petal Once a prince and how a lord, he is as noble as every, polite, fun and seemingly in love with his wife. He seems like a good man.
Preston A Greenmarch lord who is a disciple of the thirteenth. I hope he will bring the deep connection his family has to the Oathlands and to the Gods to his work. His involvement can only be an improvement.
    Prisila He gets it.
Quenia Another lord of House Greenmarch. He was quite a bit distracted, but that can be expected going to a religious ceremony with food and games! Perhaps I shall get to know him better later, once things have settled, and maybe when I go to visit the hotsprings at Greenmarch. One day, I won't be so busy that I can finally get there.
Rawen He seems fun to drink with.
Reese Well mannered, charming, likes to read and possibly knows some law!
Reigna I admit to being curious to see how well the Lycene Princes takes to being an Oathlands Lord. He is jovial and gregarious, the Greenmarchers I am certain, will welcome him. He's just... so... Lycene!
Riagnon Five out of Ten on the Spookiness Scale, and that's being generous!
Rinel A prince who believes strongly in egalitarianism during the exchange of ideas. I approve.
Rook A fine poet and impeccably dressed with it
Rowenova Lady Margret and Lord Alessandro (both Greenmarch) are noble newlyweds (of one month so far) who I first met at Prince Niklas's birthday party. I can sense they have a strong bond: a good sign! They also knew who the famous writer Lady Monique Greenmarch is (and are even related, too)! Both amiable/approachable Southerners, I sure hope I can meet them again someday soon!
Sabella A very nice and fun seeming Velenosan Prince. I marry him, Margret marries Niklas, ???, PROFIT!
Sabella The only Velenosan Prince I would ever have considered marrying. I am ever so incredibly glad to see him with Margret! He not only deserves every happiness that life can offer, but I know he would unhesitatingly give each one to his bride if he thought it would make her smile. He is a rare, kind soul and a great friend.
Sabella Had things not gone well with my family and Kennex I might have ended up married to him in a hilarious turn of events that someone would have turned into a comedic play later on. As it is, he was able to marry his true love and I was able to marry mine and the four of us have remained great friends ever since.
Sabine The measure of a person is their ability to keep their wits and wit both in conversation. One who can do that, surely they can do anything. He is a rare weave and one I enjoyed meeting.
Sameera Less on the annoying side.
Sanya He seems both amicable and devout. And his sense of humour certainly makes him enjoyable company.
Saoirse He said there's no law about hanging up decaying heads. That's nuts.
Saro His daughter is wonderful and bright, and I hope she never loses that happy curiosity towards the world. I also hope he lets her have a pet spider.
Selene A fellow I heard of by passing reamrk and conversation first and in person second, he seems a witty sort, which is always a plus. Sad I didn't get to speak with he and his Princess-to-be longer, but I'm sure we'll make up for it somewhere down the line.
Shae Something Other. He keeps an open mind and a calm exterior. He is either the eye of the storm or the cause of it.
Shazza A reserved, polite man composed of more turmoil than his calm exterior suggests.
Sidney He is, in fact, as charming as he playfully claimed to be, and an excellent drinking partner. He and his brother Prince Lorenzo make quite a duo, although it's a shame that Alessandro will no longer be sharing the Velenosa name with him.
Simone His sly sense of humor is both charming and refreshing. I am certain we will spend much time enjoying many good conversations.
Sparte I didn't know Alessandro directly before we spoke at the Shrine of Gloria, but I am glad we did. His desire for difficult truths does both him and his discipleship credit.
Starling Quite the gentleman. Not sure what he did to land in a house full of sassy gingers and if that's a blessing or a curse for him.
Talwyn One of Helena's best friends, so he has to be a good person. A wonderful conversationalist and gifted with a dry wit that I can appreciate. I imagine I'll be seeing more of him in the future, especially since I now owe him a song.
Thea Smooth talker--intelligent perhaps. I am sure I'll see him again soon.
Thesarin He spake when he had something worth saying. He kept silent elsewhise. That's a thing I can respect.
Tynan A thoughtful man, somewhat different from other Princes I've met so far. In a good way.
Valdemar As good a host as one would expect of one raised in the Lyceum, and with a keen mind as well.
Valenzo Princess Helena hoped I might help Lord Greenmarch, and he's already helped me greatly in return. Plus, well...it's always nice to know a fellow with similar problems, aye? Makes them more bearable.
Vayne It's refreshing to meet a young lord who is so devout in his journey, especially given the fealty into which he is marrying! He is someone I want to know better, and I look forward to it.
Vercyn A Velenosa Prince. I suspect we may have traumatized him.
Vitalis A little out of his depth in the woods, maybe, but his eyes are sharp as a hawk's!
Willow Walked in on him making a decent joke about the spirits and looks like a Greenmarch ring. One of my favorite families in the Oathlands. I should get to know him better.
Wren When meeting strangers on the road, you begin to discern that they come in 'flavors.' Sometimes you get the gossipy sort that wants to share their stories as you wander along the road. Sometimes you get the kind that prefers quiet instead of conversation. I thought that this lord would fall into the latter and not the former, but he amazed me in many ways. A capable friend to have on a journey, I would gladly travel the roads of Arvum with this one, in silence or conversation, and even down those seldom tread paths.
Zara It is a deep comfort to me to know that my sister's mentor is a man of intelligence, poised and reasoned, and so clearly delighted to be dedicated to his duties to his family.
