As I sit trying to overcome my sorrow, I am both heartened by the proclimations of prodigal houses pledging allegiance to the compact and chargrined that such is necessary Let it not be forgotten that a stalwart of the northlands and prodigal gave his life defending the compact. That any would take this opportunity to dtive a wedge between those who faithfully serve the compact only compounds the pain of my dear friend's death. Let us not confuse those who have bent knee and stand by their oaths with those who perpetrate tyranny and treachery and who are enemies of us all. i urge eveyone from the Oathlands to the Northlands to stand together for the peace and prosperity of the compact

I am numb in all truth. I don't even quite know what your belief's on death were. Forgive my friend for all that that I did not know, for all that I knew but did not give proper thanks. I thought we had more time I never dreamed what friends we would become when you walked into the archives with that look of bewildement on your face but you listened to me from the very first. , even though you were loud and I was quiet always with a drik in hand while I never touch a drop, the warmth and honesty that radiated from you drew me in. I've always had an attraction for things and people for whom there is more than what lies on the surface and oh what layers to you my friend. Others will remember your strong arms for the axe they weilded in battle and right they should for mighty they are, but I will remember the solace they gave me in moments of grief everyone includeing myself will rember your boisterous laughter but i willl also rember quieter words. you called my friend and teacher, but you had more wisdom than you knew and taught me things i cannot express. You died as you wanted to that much I know in battle, defending others. we spok of fighting together. I must somewhere find the strength to finish what you started. I will not yield

This week has been trying but sucesses were had. I helped some Eurisi refugees in sanctum learn to read and write as part of volunteer efforts of heart in hand and helped however marginally to cur a friend's ailment

We did it. We successfully hosted Wyvernheart's first dinner. i got to wear the lovely gown gifted me by Duchess Isabeau and everyone seemed to have a good time. The Heart in Hand Gala raised a substantial sum and appears to have been a smashing success in every respect. Duchess Isabeau did a fabulous job putting it all together. I had a lovely time am am pleased to be a part of such a worthy organization

Lady Eswynd has apparently said said some very kind things about me. It is very nice to be recognized for who one tries to be, though it was also nice to hear someone say i'm not as soft as i first appear. Part of me worries quite a bit about being perceived as weak or naive for the choices I make. I do in fact show anger quite a bit but do my level best to keep such moments behind closed doors. the other part of me thinks perhaps it isn't so bad if the compact's enemies find I'm more than the bargained for

And how does one top off a week like that. With another entertaining dinner at Sanna manor. One never knows quite to expect, aside from the fact that there will always be hospitality and good food. This time the surprise was a disply of showmanship by the Carmine kirves, the Marquis' personal guard in close quarters combat an impressive display to say the least and a reminder that one does better to make a friend of the sannas than an enemy. i have no worries there. In fact, my worry is the opposite. I am fond of the marquis and have taken to teasing him as if he were family. I fear that others may find me too familiar or get the impression I have a glib tongue but i simply feel joy from our friendship

I did however participate in the valardin boar hunt. At least, I rode along during the hunt and got knocked from my horse when a boar sideswiped it. does that count as participation. My sore ribs say it does. But lest there be any doubt on that score I definitely participated in the sumptuous feast that bore the fruits of the hunters labor hosted by my patron Duchess Isabeau Telmar and Duke Cristoph Laurent with foods prepared Lady Mabelle. The company was delightful and we even snuck in a bit of business as talk turned to trade opportunities

This week was the week for witnessing extradinary feats of skill and courage, though i did not realize it at the outset. first up was a run of telmar's gauntlet. Many brave souls came forward to attempt the test of skill. Some excelled while the course proved too much for othes. My brother Drake had a very strong start but ultemately took fourth place behinnd Lady Shyanne Eswynd, lady Adalyn Clement and Prince Raimon Thrax. His highness gave a very impressive showing for his first gauntlet, but I was quite impressed with evenne who copeted even moreso but those who were clearly struggling at the end for having the determination to finish. this is a feat i doubt i shall ever attempt

I ateendend the most wonderfu syphony concet at redrain the other evening . both the music and the setting were lovely. Some of the performers were so very young but they did an incredible job Princess Donella said that many were orphans or otherwisw served by charity. A breath of hope and proof that the work we do does some good

I iattend the first night of the Rhythym of the World Festival. It was truly a moving experience. Apprentice Aconite outdid herself with the sheer pagentry and variety of cultural activitie. The air hummed with life. Yet it was the performances that truly moved my heart Lords savio and orland's duet about tremous in his native tongue while orland sang in arvani was an act of bravery as well as beauty that filled me at once with both sandness and hope. well scholar, i always consider myself a novice scholar in almost every respect, knowing well that though I have spend a great deal of time in study since arriving in arx what knowledge I have ammassed in my two year compared to what there is to know, amounts to not even a thimbleful so when a fellow scholar posed a question about some kind of symol and i knew nothing, this was like so many other questions posed and i took no notice. of the most valuable pieces of information, in my small store of knowledge is whom to go to for answersto questions. When the people who i consider experts confessed to being puzzled by something. I consider /that/ to be something of note. My eyes and ears are open.

A recent chance encounter has granted me the unpleasant yet profound insight that for many months now I have been something of a hypocrite
A chance encounter with a stranger brought me to this revealation. What began as simple pleasantries soon turned to far weightier matter. He was greatful that i was a scholar for he had an investigation of some import that he needed aid with. I confessed to him that I was engaged in somewhat similar research. the details are not for sharing nor important for my purpose, save to say that i knew little of the matter in particular and it was the type of issue nearly anyone including he and myself would rather not exist at all
and yet I found myself energized at the prospect of this challenge to the point of shivers dancing up my spine. Though it was not until sometime later that truth struck like an anvil, that for months I had been critical, though mostly silently, of people who were looking for forward to the war. How could they look forward to taking life, I wondered Yet, now I understand it is possible to look forward to facing a challenge even as one wishes it were not necessary because of the things it carries with it, the carriage of duty, the practice of a craft well owned, the chance to aid and protect others and so i stand ready and apologize to those who i have sat in harsh judgment

This week it seemed something of a weight had been lifted and something of a quiet settled despite the fact that i was often in the company of friends, at the sleepless knights, the spirits and finally the Sanna's dinner party. though tales of war crept into conversation there was also talk of lighter matters. I am greatful for family and friends.
