Archlector Aleksei is trying to do the right thing. He wants to be a 'good guy'. But his zeal in following Skald's dogma has caused him to tread dangerously on dogma that I, as the Archlector of Gild, was duty sworn to protect. The unity of this compact is paramount to its survival. Nothing that Aleksei did was illegal, but it was done with ill-intent. He was told, by one of the highest authorities in Thrax what would happen if he followed his plan to remove Thralls in mass from the Mourning Isles. Not only did he do so, but he did so with the intent of punishing those that held those values strongest. He could have spread his ministrations, important as they are, out over a year, as suggested to him. Or he could have been more equitable, removing thralls equally from all houses. The reaction was both predictable, and devastating to Navegant economy. When one sets out to punish instead of help, however legal their action, it becomes immoral.
He backed out of his challenge, not because he wanted to spare me indignity, but because he refuses to admit any wrongdoing. He has repeatedly said that the money he paid for these thralls should account for any ills inflicted. But as the Archlector of Gild, I learned the limits of what money can do. Money does not throw nets. Money does not pick the harvest. Money does not console the heart when good men die.
I am no longer Archlector, and I have been instructed to read the dogma. So after this post, I will be silent. Unless of course, someone continues to mischaracterize what I have said when I held the august position that I did.

I don't believe anyone needs to be reminded of how old I am. Especially myself.
However, I agree with Blessed Aleksei's remarks on the godsworn - we do not require free meals. However, we look forward to assisting with the funding of the new soup kitchen, and with any supplies it may need, as long as it is doing good work in the Lowers.

I'm exploring the city and eventually find the grotto. And there, sprawled naked in one of the baths, is Aleksei. Well, that was one of the better finds of the day so I strip and join him, getting a drink from one of the servants wandering around. Have I mentioned how much I love this place? Beats jumping into a cold lake any day.
Anyway, we're talking and making plans for a tour of the city's taverns since I've only discovered a small number on my own so far and then he mentions he's an Archlector. Seriously? This handsome, naked man talking about drinking contests is an Archlector? I didn't know they were allowed to do that.
I guess the Faith isn't run by stuck up assholes like I thought. Though he is the Archlector of the wolf god so that might explain it.

An interesting man, the Archlector of Skald. I don't claim to know him well, but he is nuanced in his beliefs and marginally slippery in his manner of speaking. He raised some interesting points about the Laws of Limerance and the servants of the Gods, and I'm quite curious now to see what comes of this. If he speaks as a representative of Skald in this or simply as a person, I think changes will come to the Compact sooner than will be comfortable.

I miss him terribly in the sparser Champions since his and Nia's leaving, but he's right where he should be. He can still make a spectacle in the sands of a duel though. Bravo Blessed Alley Cat.

The Archlector of Skald and I seem, at first glance, to be kindred spirits, and his joy and humor put me at ease in a time when I needed it badly. I look forward to exploring a friendship with the man, and to learn more of the Lost God of First Choices from the archlector.

Archlector Aleksei-- or Alley Cat as Luca calls him?-- is a proficient fighter. He also won the 1,000 silver Eleyna paid out to potential challengers. Apparently he's going to buy a pew with it for his temple. I think that's code for drugs.
I didn't get the overwhelming urge to punch him when he opened his mouth... but we were already crossing blades, so there's that.

Fascinating! So much has changed in my time away, and this young Archlector is as much a sign of our changing times as anything else. The First Choice is well represented by Aleksei, and his outward reluctance to embrace the responsibility of his position does nothing to hide how well-suited he clearly is to it.

I've never really sat and talked with him much, but we've interacted. The Archlector of First Choice seems a pleasant man to be around, and I often like his insight into things.
