Relationship Note on Abbas

I did not expect you to be the champion of putting women on ships. These are such strange times we dwell in.

Relationship Note on Abbas

The new Warlord of Thrax so far lives up to his reputation. He always wanted to prove himself, to be the dread fucking lord of the waves. Now he has a chance to ride the waves ahead of a whole fleet.

It is no easy thing, to let another man have the Leviathan while I sit in Arx. There is a great threat rising in the East, and every instinct says there is where I should be, not here.

At least I leave it in capable hands until I have time to be there in person.

Relationship Note on Abbas

I thought I saw this man sail his ship off of the top of a wave and crush another beneath the plummeting hull.

I should probably stop drinking when I'm out on a mission.

Relationship Note on Abbas

I've seen some shit.

No, not the horrors of battle. Not the shocking and stomach churning viscera that streaks battlefields red.

No.

I watched a man, and his skeleton crew, lure out six ships into a storm. I watched that man send those six ships to the depths without so much as a scratch, all while the storm threw his ship to and fro.

Mangata smiles down on Abbas Thrax. And that scares the shit out of me.

Relationship Note on Abbas

Amongst many of the Thrax, the one I have spent the most time in arms with - against actual foes, is Abbas Thrax. Our ships have berthed in the same docks, and our decks shared the same blood.

A comrade, and that is not something that I have ever granted anyone lightly.

I am dismayed to hear of his loss in Nadia Nightgold. Whatever the world may have thought of the Duchess, if she was a boon to my Prince, then her passing will be regretted.

I write this, knowing that more sorrow will come - the past battle is merely the barest harbinger of what will come. All of us will face loss - a familiar fare for me, but something that will be a bitter awakening for many in Arx. I take no joy in this - for there is little joy to be had in the world that I can find. I instead pray that others might keep their happiness - a shred of hope.

I have found little need - or stomach, for it.

A wild kind of noble. He seems like a pirate.

Relationship Note on Abbas

"When one is as lost in thought as you. One might stumble. When sailors and reavers are so lost in their head -- they miss the danger off in the distance. Sometimes I envy those who can afford to be lost in their own thoughts whenever they desire."

Relationship Note on Abbas

It is taking time, but I think that we are coming to value and understand one another. It is a hard-fought victory. He challenges me, not just my authority, but my judgement, and my notion of what my place is for the future... and whereas I might have cheerfully helped him appreciate the lampreys up close for it, now I see that I need his perspective. This is Himself's influence.

Relationship Note on Abbas

Sailed upon the salt with Prince Abbas. One is hard pressed to find a swifter commander of warships.

Even the Reaper would have its speed challenged by his ships, and mine only a single craft, his a coordinated squadron.

In battle he is bloodthirsty, and the decks were awash with the blood of the taken.

Relationship Note on Abbas

One might imagine that we are two people who could not be more diametrically opposed in air and principle, but I found Prince Abbas surprisingly amenable. It's simply a matter of different avenues toward reaching the same goal. There are always friends you know you will argue with about important things, and I appear to have made one in him. I hope everything he told me about his hopes for Thrax are true, and I will be forever grateful for the gift he gave me, even knowing he had little to gain for it.

Relationship Note on Abbas

I met Prince Abbas for the first time and he made quite an impression on me! He encouraged me to have a blade on my person, which is a novel idea to me. He has quite a stare, but it has yet to make me uncomfortable. Everyone must play their role.

Relationship Note on Abbas

My cousin, the son of Princess Marjory and her foreign traitor prince. I don't know that he is different since returning from his ill-fated voyage to Eurus, but it has made him quieter. It has not made him a less revolting dining partner.

He is as fond of me as he ever was, which, I think, is not very much. Battle tactics and political theory must not have very many similarities. He does not like that I call him "Sea Lion."

Relationship Note on Abbas

It seems I've grown quite friendly with more than a few Thraxians as of late. This Thraxian prince is no exception. He's rather sweet, endearing, and extremely intelligent. It took a while for him to finally see me as an equal, rather than in the light of a Thrax lady, but I'm very grateful for it. Speaking of Thraxian ladies, Lady Cordelia (the little spitfire of the isles) thinks him a nasty drunkard and an exceedingly failing disappointment to what she envisioned, to which he purposefully made her think so. Their encounter amused me to no end, though I think both of them wouldn't think too kindly of that.

Relationship Note on Abbas

His father betrayed us, his mother was banished. Still, Abbas has always been dependable. He has embraced Thrax and its ways like few of the current generation of my family has. That makes him stand out as someone worthy.

I've sailed with him, I've fought with him and I've killed with him.

Those are the things that make men family, even if they don't have ties of blood. We have that, too.

Relationship Note on Abbas

My mother was wont to push upon me poetry as a young girl. As any parent, she was desirous that I be not merely well-read, but well-rounded. While I confess that I did not take to it as well as she may have hoped (or even liked), I have actually retained much of it. This particular refrain came to mind after a conversation I had the other day with prince Abbas Thrax:

Yes, the prow of the sailing ship bites the foaming sea
Filled with steel-gray vigor is every man’s soul
When the gusts blow foam-white waves overhead
The men are not afraid, dread has no meaning for them

When the Reaver’s eye swallows the blood-red dawn
Then free is our spirit and free is our soul

Relationship Note on Abbas

Prince Abbas' if Fatima's brother. There father and mother supported my family during the Tyde rebellion and for that their father from across the seas was executed and their mother was sent off to exile in the Lyceum states.

As a result Fatima, Abbas and I grew up close together. While there are many orphans of the war in the Thrax house, they were the ones who shared my circumstance as the seed of the traitors.

While Fatima and I learned other ways to cope, Abbas grew to be a fierce Reaver and as a result went off to hunt and haunt the Dark Water 5 years ago. In all honesty I never expected to see him again.

I didn't realize how deeply I missed him until he returned and for a brief time I remembered the relief it is to have someone who wouldn't ask the questions or need an explanation and instead simply understood.

Relationship Note on Abbas

I hope Mangata is pleased with herself, because I have come across several noteworthy men recently that feel more at home in her realm than upon land. This particular entry is dedicated to a one Abbas Thrax, Lion of the Seas. You can surely see why I am partial, but animal allusions and animalistic tendencies aside, I genuinely like the man, and look forward to getting to know him better.

Perhaps what pleases me most is his talent for conversation. Okay, maybe I am not being entirely forthright, allow me to explain: One cousin is the perfect listener, while Abbas is marvelous to engage in deep, often more thoughtful discord. Between the pair of them, I have the best of both worlds.

What? Oh, well of course he's good looking as well. I don't care a whit about ugly people.

Though I do wonder how he wound up with those grey streaks within his hair...

Relationship Note on Abbas

Prince Abbas Thrax, the Lion of the Dark Waters. He came into my shop seeking a very specific commission. While I never sew and tell, it was an interesting meeting, and one I shall have to repeat once the clothing is done. Perhaps I misjudged him when we first started speaking, but I did have respect for the man when he left.
