Joy is knowing spring is but a few weeks away. I'm cold.

A Promise of Spring, a song dedicated to Lagoma

As the cold days slowly pass one by one
Wintery gray skies seem to lack the sun.
Snow falls deep and blankets the ground
And crackling ice is a frequent sound.

In time Lagoma's changes come to pass.
Snow is replaced by young green grass.
The pale sun starts to brighten the sky
And overhead, birds call out and fly.

Whispers of warmth drift soft in the air.
Signs of change can be seen everywhere.
Crops sprout in the new-turned fields.
A soft fur cloak to a spring coat yields.

Gray skies lighten and turn spring blue.
Sweet flowers bloom in the mornin' dew.
As seasons change, one thing holds true
Work needs to be done, plans made anew.

Watch Lagoma's steady everlasting flame
Respect lesson's value comin' with change
Find joy and beauty wherever might be
Accepting change can set a spirit free.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I actually know. My fingers are cramping and my head aching from so many notes I have taken lately.

Relationship Note on Sebastian

Such a talented friend! The statues standing along the walkway to the tower had started to crack and chip and Lord Sebastian, bless him, has agreed to tend to their repairs and to add a statue of Estaban.

Relationship Note on Estaban

The first Eclipse of Mirrors I ever attended in Arx was with you. We ate, drank, danced, and ...well, perhaps those thoughts shall remain private. Such fond memories. This one I attended alone. My time was spent with an old friend whose identity I guessed, her costume so lovely. When I returned home, I looked in on our children, so sweetly sleeping. They had made little paper masks for the plushies you had bought for them before you died, before they were born.

Relationship Note on Aiden

You and your feathered friends have been missed. Next time we visit though, lets visit over wine instead of suffering the more-than-usual cold and risky adventuring.

Twelve songs done. Just one left to finish this project that has taken me two years to reach this point. It is time to start thinking of what to do next.

Relationship Note on Sparte

Having children name the mound of snow shoveled from the walkways around the Iron Guard area named 'Mount Sparte' is not a bad thing. Just think, it could have been Hillock Sparte or Icybluff Sparte or Snowfort Sparte.

Relationship Note on Zoey

We do tend to get into mischief, don't we? That was quite a surprise for Lady Octavia, to have found us all soaking in her spa instead of having a quiet place to soak and relax. Wonder what mischief we will get into next?

Full of plain speaking, spirit, bravery and common sense. I'm glad to have done something to please her.

Relationship Note on Estaban

Four years ago I was watching Lord Sebastian carve those amusing snow and ice sculptures for our wedding reception, getting to know Lord Vomus and teaching him a few dance steps, and packing up the rest of my belongings to have them moved into Saik Tower after our wedding in less than two weeks. I remember the sounds of the builders as they added the last minute details to the music room Esta had built as a present for me, the bustle of the servants making sure the tower was clean and fresh, and the fittings of my wedding dress. Those were happy times that have turned into a sweet poignant memory without the overwhelming sadness I felt the first two years.

Snow again. At least it did not interfere with the Kennex Sea Shell event aboard the Cirella. That was fun and the lively conversations made it well worth the effort of going there. But with winter here, it is time to get used to wearing heavier boots when out trudging around in the snow, dealing with avoiding skirt hems dragging along catching on the ice and picking up globs of snow and mud, and doing things like carrying more fashionable boots, slippers or dancing shoes to change in and out of when attending balls and events.

Relationship Note on Miranda

I hope you are soon able to find someone to help organize your wedding plans. I well know what a headache it can be and am sorry the help to which I referred you to with confidence they would do a good job failed to respond. Perhaps they are just too busy with other political projects at the moment.

Relationship Note on Quenia

Sometimes fatigue makes one miss important points they should have observed before. Just last evening I was reviewing some bits and pieces of information I've acquired over the past few months and there was the name of a cousin, right there, in the middle. I'll have to visit and talk with Quenia to see if she knows her brother has been mentioned.

Relationship Note on Quenia

The gem given me by Quenia is beautiful. It is too beautiful to rush off and just have set into 'something'. It needs careful thought and planning and figuring out just when and where I plan to first wear it. To do less careful thought would be to lessen the impact and appreciation of the gift.

One would think an instrumental piece of music is easier to compose, no words, no rhyming or evocative wording, no carefully selecting just the right phrase. It isn't. Believe me, it isn't. How do you make sounds to convey the waking morning, the progress of the tasks of the day? How do you show purpose, intent, joy all without parting your lips, just with the touch of your fingers or bow on an instruments's strings? How do you fit many moods, rhythms, ideas into just one lengthy composition? Marching songs, light hearted dancing notes of insects fluttering around flowers, hopeful notes of a love-sick swain in shorter songs are not as difficult. One can understand their meaning without knowing words or title but to portray the passage of a whole day and encompass the joy that Jayus brings to lives and the many ways he affects us, now that is not easy in the least. One might never know what the song represented without knowing the history and title of it.

A pleasant dinner at the Malvici residence hosted by Lord Martino. The meal and wines were delicious and I got to see an old friend had not seen in a while. Lady Lethe was there, and she had been in my thoughts the last few days.

Three, my twins turned three on October 11. Their bedtime story included the tale of their heroic father and that the warmth they felt when cuddling down to sleep was his love surrounding them. Before they could ask too many questions, I reminded them of their birthplace, Saikland Greens and spent time telling them about it. It reminded me of their Auntie Eirene and Lady Lethe who helped them into the world. I miss Eirene and wish she would come back to Arx from Southport.

Such interesting histories of weapons and houses. Makes me want to delve into our own Saik history more deeply.
