Comments and Log

3 Thrax Guards, Freja the long suffering arrive, following Coraline.

Leola has joined the Commoner Benches.

Amari slips in shortly after Reigna and Kael who she was following, but obviously got waylaid a little at some point. She quick-steps as discretely as she can to catch up and pads along after to join them on the Valardin benches. It's not until she settles that she takes a proper look around, smiling and either nodding politely to those of higher station or wiggling her fingers amiably to those more familiar to her. Even in a seasilk gown she's got nothing on Reigna.

Cirroch has left the Redrain Benches.

A nod is given to Bliss as Elgana parts ways with the Whisper and heads toward the Redrain benches. She dips a curtsy and then makes to sit, settling in quickly and quietly.

Mia steps into the Assembly quietly, pausing in the doorway just long enough for her eyes to sweep the room and seek out certain facs. After a moment, she continues on, moving directly towards the Grayson benches and assuming a seat for herself.

Coraline has joined the Thrax Benches.

Baxtalo, a fluffy white kitten have been dismissed.

Pellinor, Maxene arrive, following Alarissa.

"That's good. The mirror cake still looks good, but after a few months..." Niklas glances around at the packed crowd, pausing to wave to Jeffeth and Wylla. He points at Wylla, then points at his wrist, then makes a big, exaggerated shrug. Then he turns and heads over to the Thrax benches until he realizes he's no longer with his wife. "Oh. Right." Alarissa gets a wave, then cool as a Mourning Isles turnip, he heads over to the Grayson bench and sits down by Sabella. "Aah, had to, uh, talk to... never mind."

Alessia Mazetti takes a seat beside her cousin, removing the silvered fox fur cloak from around her shoulders as she does so, to reveal her teal blue seasilk dress and Hydra shaped torc around her neck.

Saoirse stands off to the side, nearish the king kinda, looking OFFICIALLY like a mouthpiece of the crown. Because she is. A quick glance around the room leads her gaze to the underdressed Tikva, which, in turn, lights up the Velenosan princess' face. Saoirse flashes her friend a thumbs-up, gesturing to her own dress as if to say -- nice threads, lady!

Calypso has joined the Lyceum Benches.

Alarissa has joined the Thrax Benches.

Slipping in, Cora heads to the Thrax benches and sliiiiides in, was here the whole time, promise! Says her expression.

2 Grimhall House Guards, Gustav, a gruff Islander advisor arrive, following Valdemar.

Heimlin, the Scholar, 5 Harthall house guards arrive, following Orvyn.

When the events begin, Fairen turns his attention from the entrance, to instead focus on the seating area that houses the Voices of the Realm, patiently observing how things begin.

Orvyn has joined the Valardin Benches.

Valdemar has joined the Thrax Benches.

Pasquale arrives amidst the throng, navigating his way to the area set aside for the Lyceum as swiftly as he can manage. There's a tiredness about his pale face as he works his way through the crowd, idly checking the peace knots on the sword at his hip (they're tied quite firmly). The odd polite greeting or bow is exchanged, before he finally plants himself with a sigh of relief.

Leola slips into the room, and then the commoner benches. She talks in low tones to Lindsey as she moves, her voice quiet - and she nods to the Velenosa benches, curtysing absently on the way

Carita has joined the Thrax Benches.

Duchess Calypso Malvici enters the assembly in her riding gear and light armor, per usual. Her entourage has been left behind except for her Adjutant, who walks a pace behind her on the right. She moves for the Lycean benches while her eyes scan the room and faces, before then settling in without a word.

Preston has joined the Godsworn Benches.

Acacia slips in and finds her way to a comfortable perch, honey-brown eyes scanning the crowd for familiar faces.

Arriving with retinue, Orvyn Harthall looks around the already assmebled peerage and nods his head in greeting to those faces that are familiar and to those whom are worthy of such a respectful gesture. Further into the space he moves, his guards moving to take ranks with those of the other Valardin nobles, he will find a chair at the table of his Highlord and settle into it. Inkstained hands resting atop the table as he leans in to hear what is being said.

Acacia has joined the Commoner Benches.

Jiacomo, the Velenosa seneschal, 6 House Velenosa Guards arrive, following Talen.

Wylla sighs as her kitten is removed by royal guards, appearing a little disappointed at her suddenly kittenless state. She does, however, murmur something to the guards at the benches, before looking up towards Niklas, looking quite puzzled, but says nothing to the newly minted Prince from her benches. She settles back to watch, instead, although she does glance towards the Velenosan benches for a moment, mouthing something to someone there.

Talen has joined the Voices of the Realm.

Signe gets Swift Strike Scorpion Whiskey from a half-moon satchel carved from a fine wolf pelt.

Belladonna gets a bottle of Setarco Fire from small canvas bag.

Belladonna gets Setarco Serpentine Red from small canvas bag.

Nallah, a buff-looking tortie cat with green eyes have been dismissed.

2 House Mazetti Aspirants have been dismissed.

Fecundo stops into the assembly and looks about curiously. When he notes the seating arrangements, he looks slightly disappointed, though he does make his way to the proper set of benches.

Fecundo has joined the Lyceum Benches.

5 Pravus Honor Guard have been dismissed.

Cambria shares a few quiet words with those around her, leaning in the benches of the Godsworn that she might reply to one seated there.

Sir Rhys, a Valardin Knight have been dismissed.

Oaken, an Oakhaven bloodhound have been dismissed.

2 Grimhall House Guards have been dismissed.

Gustav, a gruff Islander advisor have been dismissed.

Quenia makes her way into the assembly and meanders over to the Lyceum benches. She inclines her head to those people she knows as she takes a seat, offering each a small smile.

Preston steps in, the Templar moving his way across to the Godsworn table. His blades are happily tied in peace cords, but he is still in his armour because that's how you do when you are in uniform.

Harlan moves in and moves to sit down at the Grayson benches, settling himself in and otherwise being mostly quiet. It's already noisy in here, after all.

Oswyn has joined the Commoner Benches.

Oswyn creeps in, a satchel slung over his shoulder. He takes a seat at the commoner benches and pulls out a book and a quill.

River, a juvenile Oakhaven bloodhound have been dismissed.

Alaric stands and regards the hall from the center front of the room, speaking in a clear and confident voice. "The Houses of the Compact are understandably proud of their heritage and accomplishments. We do not always see eye to eye on every issue, but we have pledged to work together for the common good of all Arvians and to carry on the proud traditions set down by our forebearers who valiantly fought to secure the freedom we still enjoy today. We have done well to continue this tradition, having banded together and prevailed in two conflicts in recent memory. Our alliance is not a given, however; it must be maintained, by action, by word, by fidelity to one's oaths. There have been many instances in our history where ill-considered actions have spiraled out of control, leading to conflict between the Houses. We have always risen above and persisted on, but just because it was so before does not mean it will always be the case. Now in an era where we have been bloodied by wars set upon us, may all the Peers in attendance today always remember to work against needless provocations that turn us against each one other." That spoken, his relatively serious declaration softens into an unreserved and regally charming grin. "I now call this Assembly of Peers to order. Please rise for the convocation of the Faith of the Pantheon."

Orazio stands, and makes his way deliberately to the front of the Assembly. He bows first to Alaric, deeply, then turns to address the assembled, his voice rising clear and strong to reach even the rearmost benches. “In the name of Petrichor, who has given unto us dominion, I hereby consecrate this ground. Let all who abide within be bathed in the light of the gods, and be protected by the holy sacrament of Sanctuary. Until this Assembly be lawfully dismissed, to shed blood or begin violence on this ground will be the darkest sin, and shall be punished accordingly.” His black gaze seems to sweep all assembled, watchful and unyielding.
“Now, let us pray. We pray for the charity of Gild, that our every thought and action be for the good of all. We pray for the honor of Gloria, that we will stand courageous for our principles. We pray for the inspiration of Jayus, that we may tread new paths. We pray for the growth of Lagoma, that we do not reject the new for the comfort of the old. We pray for the fidelity of Limerance, that we may never betray the oaths we have sworn for political gain or convenience. We pray for the breath of Mangata, that sustains us and links us, no matter our divisions. We pray to be worthy of the dominion Petrichor has granted, and work ever for the stewardship of land and people. We pray for the justice of the Sentinel, that no innocent be condemned and no guilty man or woman exalted among these peers. We pray for the wisdom of Vellichor, that our actions be informed by knowledge and our legacies preserved for all time. We pray that we remember that Skald has given us both the right of choice, and the responsibility for our choices, and that the Queen reminds us of the price and reward of our service. Let every word and choice here be aimed to protect and exalt the Dream we live within.” There’s a pause, before the Legate continues, “We pray for the awareness of the Thirteenth, and remain ever vigilant against our own darkest desires, that we may keep our eyes to the light, and our feet on the righteous path.”

Once the last echo of the prayer has fallen silent, Orazio returns to his seat.

Khanne rises up for the convocation, listening in silence and reverence as Orazio speaks it. Once he is finishes, she gives a nod and whispers words to herself, likely in prayer, before retaking her seat.

Listening intently to Alaric as he speaks, and rising at his call, Fairen begins his pray along with the Legate. Then he returns to his seat.

Enoch stands by his King as his loyal guard, smiling softly to his cousin as he manages to give a good speech before his head is bowed in prayer that Orazio speaks, praying with all in attendance. Once it is finished, Enoch's eyes are once again on the general assembly and effectively scanning the surroundings for anything out of the ordinary. However, he doesn't sit, rather he remains standing.

Acilius, 2 House Mazetti Aspirants arrive, following Valerio.

Cambria rises alongside her cousin as Orazio takes the floor, bowing her head and maintaining a moment of silence as the Legate prays.

Kael rises for the convocation, his head bowed in a most humble fashion. It is only after the prayer is finished that he returns to his seat.

Wylla rises for the prayer, looking a little uncertain about something said at the Godsworn benches prior to the prayer. But she bows her flame-red head at the Legate's words. settling and murmuring something more once the prayer has finished and a moment or two afterwards has passed.

Demura has left the Valardin Benches.

1 Lyonesse Trained Guards have been dismissed.

2 House Lyonesse Adept Guards have been dismissed.

Maverick, the hawk have been dismissed.

Marian rises with the others at the Redrain bench. She listens with solemn reverence as the convocation is spoken. Not a word falls from her lips as the Legate leads the prayer. Then once protocol allows, sits back down once it is over.

Alaric waits for everybody to get seated but remains standing at the front. "Thank you, Legate Orazio. Today's major order of business is one I've been looking forward to. It is always a proud day for the Compact to celebrate the accomplishments of one of its member Houses, who by wise investment, planning, and rule has expanded the fortunes of their people and the power of their domain. I am pleased to announce that House Laurent has put forward a nomination to elevate Oakhaven County to Oakhaven March. Will the representatives of House Laurent, House Keaton, and the Faith come forward."

Reigna gets to her feet for the convocation, her eyes bright, lips moving as she hushedly makes her own respectful prayers. She reaches for Kael's hand, taking it in her own as he begins to sit when the convocation ends, and then returns to her own seat. At the King's next words, there is a fierce pride on her face, a light in her dark eyes, her fingers linking with Kael's as she grips his hand tightly.

Alis looks about as full of pride as possible at Alaric's first order of business. She even sits on her hands so she doesn't start applauding anything prematurely.

Cora had also stood during the convocation in respectful silence, then sits once it is over.

Orazio leans to listen to something Wylla says as he sits down, and offers her a warm smile. And then he has to stand up again! Cruel. CRUEL. He pats the Archlector on the shoulder, a brief and reassuring gesture, before making his way back down to where the King indicates, his expression falling into solemn composure.

Rising, Hella listens to the prayer in silence with her head bowed. Then she takes her seat on the commoners bench once again, leaning forward with one elbow propped on her raised knee and her chin resting utop her balled fist. No talking, but she smiles a bit absently at anyone who looks her way. She's too distracted to be as chatty as usual.

Khanne smiles brightly at King Alaric's announcement and even applauds, quietly, politely, not interruptively, though she does stick her tongue out at her brother for some reason.

There was a faint flicker of a smile just starting at the corner of Mia's mouth as the King called up the Keatons. Not bright or strong, not yet, at least. But it was a marked departure from the usual reserved expression the Countess wore in public.

Ford has joined the Thrax Benches.

Demura has joined the Valardin Benches.

Ashe, the studious Stormward paralegal, 2 Kennex corsairs arrive, following Octavia.

Octavia has joined the Thrax Benches.

Cristoph has been sitting at the end of the Valardin benches waiting patiently. When the King announces that it's time for them to step forward, he moves up smoothly from his seat and then waits for the Keatons to get to their feet as well. Once that's done, he'll move forward as indicated and stand at the floor with the legate and wait for the moment when he needs to start speaking.

Jael reaches to squeeze Reigna's hand when she passes by, then sits up straight in her seat to observe the proceedings. There's an air of barely-surpressed energy about her.

Quenia watches intently as Reigna and Kael are called up front, the matter of this business of keen interest to her as she takes in the proceedings.

Calypso's face takes on a vision of pride as the name is called. Keaton. They may be in a different vassalage but there is no missing the swell of her appreciation for this. As the patron, there is something to be said. She has no problem sitting as tall as possible.

When the King is summoning a representative of Keaton forth, Kael is taking a deep breath and leaning over to kiss Reigna on the cheek, offering her a squeeze of the hand, and then rising to his full height once more. He inclines his head deeply toward Cristoph and waits for Duke Laurent to pass through first and falls into line a trio of steps behind him. Once he has taken position, he moves a single step to the side in wait.

Reigna looks up at Kael with obvious delight and pride, beaming up at him. She tilts her cheek into the kiss and squeezes his hand in return. The Countess-Consort, however, does not join him in moving forward, though her devotion and pride cannot possibly be missed as she watches Kael and Cristoph move towards the King.

Alaric starts by addressing Kael. "Do you, Count Kael Keaton, in the presence of the Assembly of Peers and under the watch of the gods, affirm that the disposition of your lands and your people is as you have submitted to the Crown's auditors, thereby qualifying you to rise in rank among the Peerage with all the attendant honors and responsibilities therein?"

There is a slow, deep breath taken before Kael is lifting his chin from that humble position that it had been held. "I do, Your Majesty," rumbles Kael, his voice a low thing, solemn, yet managing to carry forth with a hint of pride.

Alaric nods regally to Kael and turns to Cristoph. "Do you, Duke Cristoph Laurent, in the presence of the Assembly of Peers and under the watch of the gods, affirm your confidence both in House Keaton's ability to provide the guidance and aid to its vassal Counties its new promotion requires, and to faithfully execute in turn its vassal duties to your Duchy?"

Cullen has joined the Valardin Benches.

Cristoph maintains a serious expression through the proceedings, his hands linked behind his back. When Alaric turns to him, he nods his head swiftly and without hesitation. In a voice that's loud enough to carry through the room, he clearly states, "I do, Your Majesty."

Alaric nods regally again to Cristoph and then finishes with Orazio to try and get the poor guy get back to his seat as soon as possible. "Legate Orazio, has the Faith of the Pantheon reviewed the petition for House Keaton to transfer its oaths from House Lyonesse to House Laurent, and granted its permission?"

Lethe has left the Thrax Benches.

Orazio smiles with warmth and approval as he inclines his head. "The Faith has heard the petition. The Count and Countess of Keaton have been unfailing in their duties to their people, serving them as steadfast lieges, and upholding the gods' wills that the Faithful have good governance. So, too, has Keaton unfailingly accomplished their duties to the gods, heeding the voices of the Pantheon, showing respect and due veneration, and striving to embody the Virtues of the gods that this example may serve to guide the people they lead. The Faith has no objection to the elevation of Keaton to a March, should it be the Crown's will. May the gods bless all who serve with such fidelity with prosperity."

Alaric nods and looks out to the Assembly at large. "Fellow Peers of the realm, we have heard the affirmations that all is in order as our traditions require. If you will confirm House Keaton's rise in rank as Oakhaven March, declare your 'aye's now." (this part is allowed to be spammy, btw)

Having slipped in just before the convocation, Valerio, a rare sight out of armor and only in his Aeterna uniform. He and his detail step aside from the entrance but does not oin his niece immediately. From here he chooses to observe the honors Kael is about to recieve without disturbing them with motion.

Khanne stands up, almost jumping up, and says vociferously, "aye! Aye! Aye! Aye!" She clears her throat and sits back down, grinning impishly.

Orvyn rises with a smile upon his face as he notes the rise in rank of the Keaton House, a bow to them both, a satisfied nod as his rich baritone echoes into the space, "Harthall resoundingly cries 'Aye!'"

Victus raises a hand. "Aye."

Darren raises his flask in an affirmative gesture. "Aye," he declares in a staid tone.

Octavia calls out, "Aye."

Arik languidly rises up beside Khanne who gets a sidelong look from the man before he rumbles, "Aye!"

Fredrik, glass in hand, stands to declare "Aye!" once, loudly and clearly, before seating himself once more.

This is the part where all that pent up energy comes out of Jael, in the form of her leaping to her feet, sticking her fingers in her mouth and letting out a piercing whistle punctuated at the end with a shout of, "Aye!"

When the call for confirmation of House Keaton's rise in rank comes out, Marquis Fairen lifts his head. "Aye."

Belladonna says, "Aye"

Signe claps enthusiastically, bellowing out, "Aaaaaaaaye!"

"Aye!" Alis gives her affirmative with enthusiasm, standing up briefly to do so, and clapping happily for them.

Marian rises with a deep smile on her face and calls out a hearty, "Aye!" once her liege has given his affirmative gesture. She pulls out her flash and then salutes the Keatons before taking a drink. Then she rejoins her seat, putting the flask away for now.

It was then that Mia's face broke into a broad smile, and the fierce warmth of it was such a sharp juxtaposition as to be almost comical. "Riven declares 'Aye!' for Oakhaven."

Cambria makes her decision known, stating a bold, obviously pleased, "Aye," for House Keaton.

Calypso's distinctive command voice calls out, "Aye!"

Gwenna, as well, adds her own rather cheerful, "Aye!" to the chorus of those being offered.

Quenia grins at Reigna and Kael, two people she calls friends, and raises her voice. "Aye!"

Talen says, "Aye."

"Aye!" Barric adds his voice to the mix.

Tikva doesn't add her voice to the ayes because Grayson doesn't get to vote twice, but she does stomp her foot and clap cheerfully, proving proxy for her husband who isn't here.

Silently sliding into the Assembly and taking a seat in the proper benches, Cullen looks surprised and beams a smile of congratulations at Kael and Reigna.

Demura stands up, a half smile set on her face, "Aye!" She says, looking over Kael with some interest and pride.

Valdemar stands up, looks toward the Keatons to incline his head briefly, and then calls out, "Grimhall says 'aye'!"

There are a lot of people speaking and standing all at once, and Wylla shrinks back a little into the Godsworn bench, silent and wide-eyed, watching, discomfort anew on her face. She does, however, appear relieved at all the ayes and the lack of dissension.

Reigna lifts a hand to her face to daub away her tears of overwhelming joy at the words spoken and the chorus of Ayes that are called out. She looks to each face as she can when they do, graitude and pride offers back to them in her smile. Her cheeks are flushed and she is clearly amazed and humbled by the support shown.

Duarte looks up, a bit baffled and distracted looking. He glances around and seeing everyone say Aye decides to also say "aye". He shrugs.

13 House Velenosa Guards, Sybilla, the Lenosian lady's maid arrive, following Eleyna.

Eleyna has joined the Commoner Benches.

"House Grayson votes aye as well. I think we can dispense with the nay vote, as it is quite clear the Assembly has approved the petition by acclamation," Alaric notes regally. "Therefore it is my distinct honor to present to you all the new Marquis Kael Keaton. Congratulations to House Keaton and House Laurent alike," he declares, gesturing to everyone that they can take their seats again.

Eleyna has left the Commoner Benches.

Eleyna has joined the Voices of the Realm.

Enoch sees so many people calling out 'aye', and as he remains next to the king, he happens to simply chuckle and smile.

Alaric is overheard praising Kael: Congratulations, Marquis Kael!

Natalia is overheard praising Kael.

Amanda is overheard praising Kael.

Natalia is overheard praising Reigna.

Calypso is overheard praising Kael.

Alaric is overheard praising Reigna: Congratulations, Marquessa Reigna!

Quenia is overheard praising Kael.

Amanda is overheard praising Reigna.

Quenia is overheard praising Reigna.

Signe is overheard praising Kael.

Leola is overheard praising Reigna.

Geralt is overheard praising Kael.

Orazio leans forward just enough to say, "Congratulations, Marquis and Marquessa. May your House continue to prosper in righteousness," with genuine fondness, before he makes his way back to his seat.

Signe is overheard praising Reigna.

Talen slides from the chair as the Grand Duchess of the Lyceum arrives, presses a kiss to her mouth, murmurs low and then departs for the other benches. The other Great Houses and the King are given a nod as he transfers his Voice back to his wife.

Geralt is overheard praising Reigna.

Octavia is overheard praising Kael.

Gwenna is overheard praising Kael.

Gwenna is overheard praising Reigna.

Simone is overheard praising Kael.

Reigna is overheard praising Kael: Congratulations my so deserving husband! You worked so hard for this!

Simone is overheard praising Reigna.

Valerio is overheard praising Kael: Outstanding, and well deserved my friend!

Khanne is overheard praising Reigna: Congratulations Best Friend Marquessa!

The Grand Duchess sweeps in and gives a nod to the King and the other High Lords before accepting that kiss with a little smile and murmuring a few words in return. She takes her seat and glances over the crowd.

Cristoph looks back and over at the Assembly as they call out their 'ayes'. He doesn't bother to hold back his smile and claps Kael on the shoulder while managing to make 'congratulations' heard over the cry of the crowd. Alaric dismisses them and he makes his way back into the seating, looking happy but also tremendously relieved.

Khanne is overheard praising Kael: Congratulations Best Friend's husband Marquis!

Alis is overheard praising Kael: Well deserved, Marquis!

Valerio is overheard praising Reigna: For the women behind the man, and all your hard work!

Reigna is overheard praising Orazio.

Alis is overheard praising Reigna: I could not be happier for you both!

Alis is overheard praising Cristoph.

Cristoph is overheard praising Kael: Congratulations! Your hard work has paid off!

Etienne is overheard praising Kael.

Cristoph is overheard praising Reigna: Congratulations! And your hard work has ALSO paid off!

Kael's got the look of someone slightly nervous -- you know, as some grooms happen to have on a wedding day -- and yet with each distinct 'aye' that comes forth, there is no doubting the look of gratitude, the slight curve of his lips. Those that he can make eye contact with, he does, and there is a nod of his head as he can. As soon as the King is speaking again though he has the full of his focus. A step back is taken and he sweeps down into a gallant and courtly bow that he must have been practicing. First to His Majesty, grand and low, held for a series of beats before he delivers one that is held not quite as long to Duke Laurent. There is another bow, this one to Legate Orazio, before he finally rises and withdraws to join the Valardin seating. Of course he'll be filing in behind Cristoph.

Etienne is overheard praising Reigna.

Reigna is overheard praising Alaric: For our leader!

Calypso is overheard praising Reigna.

Kael is overheard praising Alaric.

Amari watches with keen eyes, and a proud, if dreamy and unfocused smile. Like Jael, she's practically bursting with energy. Postive, happy, bouncy energy that she's polite enough to keep mostly suppressed. She doesn't call out an aye herself, but does bring her hands together as if she's desperate to at least applaud. Is there applause? Maybe a little wouldn't hurt. She can't help herself.

Kael is overheard praising Orazio.

Cristoph is overheard praising Orazio.

Kael is overheard praising Reigna.

Cristoph is overheard praising Alaric.

Belladonna is overheard praising Eleyna: Praise Tehom, you've arrived!

Kael is overheard praising Cristoph.

Talen says, "I see how it is."

Calypso is overheard praising Alaric.

Calypso is overheard praising Orazio.

Natalia is prompt to both applaud and cheer. Right after Amari starts. She sounds positively thrilled, and that is definitely a beaming smile sent towards the Keatons.

Cambria joins her applause along with all others, clearly happy for the Keaton couple' success.

Talen has left the Voices of the Realm.

Talen has joined the Lyceum Benches.

Once Kael is back and close enough, Reigna is is practically vibrating with glee and joy stands in front of her husband, and in this moment, it is impossible to miss just how much she would like to throw her arms around her husband and kiss him. Instead, with a smile of pride that is outshined only by her love for him, does she drop into a deep curtsy and bow her head, "Marquis Kael Keaton." She rises and then does as she wishes, throwing her arms around his shoulders and hugging him.

Cristoph is overheard praising Demura.

Alaric takes his seat as well, because apparently standing for ceremony is one thing but moving along to general business is another thing entirely. "Moving along into some other business; I'm sure many of you have been looking forward to the biannual Tournament of Roses, including most of this table." He glances over to Talen and Victus, then lightly doubletakes when Eleyna's there instead. "My goodness, Prince Talen! You're looking much more attractive all of a sudden," he comments without missing a beat before turning back to regard the Assembly with a grin. "If you are interested in helping with this year's festivities, please contact Mistress Amanda Whisper, the Royal Event Coordinator." He glances back at Victus. "Feel free to turn into a beautiful woman whenever you like, by the way," he quips merrily before continuing. "Next we will be holding one of our periodic Open thrones, although it's more like an open table I suppose. Regardless, if you have a concern that you wish to bring me and my esteemed colleagues up here, please raise your hand and you will be shown to the front when acknowledged."

Harlan is overheard praising Kael.

Harlan is overheard praising Reigna.

Talen snorts and crosses his arms. Hmph.

Fredrik is overheard praising Alaric.

"Thank goodness someone agrees that I'm prettier than Talen." Eleyna drawls with a bit of a smile in response to Alaric.

Victus snorts as well. "Male or female, my ass is to die for." The Prince quips back, his tone drier than a desert as he settles deeper into his chair. His feline companion on his shoulder mewls in discomfort.

Amanda Whisper is setting off in the Commoner's section. When addressed by name, she'll offer a soft, polite smile that any might look that way. And clearly she's been practicing her 'don't look horribly overwhelmed' face. Smile!

Alis leans forward, and looks over at Alaric. "Shall I turn into a handsome man for you, Your Majesty?" she wonders, eyebrow raised.

Marian polite raises her hand from where she is sitting. She has a few notes with her and then glances around to see if anyone else is raising their hand.

Marian has joined the line.

Acacia has left the Commoner Benches.

Arik has joined the line.

Aleksei has joined the line.

Alaric grins at Alis. "If you like, why not?" he agrees breezily. He clears his throat lightly and tries to put on a bit more of a serious king face as some hands start to go up and he spots Marian's first. "Princess Marian, please come forward," he directs.

Turn in line: Marian

Darren strokes his bushy red beard proudly, as if to enjoy the fact that he couldn't possibly get any prettier.

Of course, Valerio looks pleased at the affirmation to the honor given to the Keatons. It is now he moves to take his seat near Cambria and observe the banter flying about. His mouth opens at the Talen/Eleyna prettiness competition, and slowly closes it again, his single eye looking amused.

Valerio has joined the Lyceum Benches.

Marian gives a deep bow to her king once he acknowledges her and allows her to approach the Voices of the Realm. She has a few notes with her and then steps forward, "Since the Ministry of Defense was disbanded and the Iron Guard has expanded their duties, we have seen a rise of violence in certain areas of the city as well as problems just outside our gates. I would like to propose additional funding for the guards to expand their forces so that we have greater coverage in protecting our citizens."

Alis makes sure to look over at Victus and Darren, up and down, as if studying their posture before she shifts in her seat to mimic them as best she can. And then she seeks out Talen in the crowd with a a questioning glance. Is she doing it right? She's even trying to get the whole macho manspreading thing right. Of course, once Marian speaks she straightens back up again and listens more intently.

Marian continues to speak as others start to look her way, "If the Crown does not want to take on the added financial burden, I would propose a rise in the number of guards allowed in Arx so that the Great Houses can come together and assist with the protection of the city."

Enouch remains near the king, though his eyes shift to Marian as she speaks to the assembly of her concerns. He listens intently, and finds nothing wrong with her words. A worthy proposition for the ears of the Assembly. Nevertheless, Enoch says nothing, figuring it wasn't quite his place. After all, he was in approval of this anyway.

Talen mouths something towards Alis and makes a less than discrete gesture to his chest.

Rowenova has joined the Commoner Benches.

The topic certainly has the attention of General Calypso Malvici. Her attention seems to be squarely on the topic rather than anything else.

Also listening with interest is the Chief Magistrate. Octavia notes something down in her book, then turns towards the King with interest as to what he'll say.

"The Ministry of Defense is a rather separate issue, Princess Marian; it did not field any forces itself, so its disbandment did not remove any coverage in terms of force deployment in and around the city. We have noted the uptick in violent activity in and around the city, however. The Lord Commanders are working on an overall plan to address the situation and I am quite confident they will be very receptive of individuals that wish to aid them when it is concluded," Alaric declares. "But I don't believe fiscal issues are the major problem inasmuch as we have just fought a terribly bloody war that has greatly reduced the number of soldiers available to us, the Iron Guard included." He glances around the table. "This was a question directed to the Crown instead of the Great Houses, but if any of you have anything to say about it," he offers by way of observation.

Spirit, the Sleepy Brown Fox arrives, delivering a message to Rowenova before departing.

Darren stands, giving a quick bow towards Alaric. "My Liege," he intones with respect. "To Princess Marian's suggestion. As you say, all our forces are depleted at this time. If it's true that we lack sufficient manpower for our own defense, would it not be possible to accept the help of volunteers, under the guidance of the Iron Guard, to bolster their forces? These are perilous times, after all, Your Majesty."

Victus does perk up there, having been finally pried away from whatever had distracted him at their round-table. "I was actually considering of late that with the Pirate War having been finished for a few months, now may be a good time to promote more collaboration between Houses in protection of the Compact. We do seem to have a bit of a lull in impending doom and other apocalyptic shit." The Prince of Storm's states. "Arx being the capital of our combined alliances, its protection should be a concern for all. Perhaps assistance in combating this continual uptick of violence could be asked of the Great Houses as well, in a voluntary sense as Prince Darren suggests. I'm sure we can think of ways that appreciation could be shared for getting involved in the city's health."

Marian gives a deep bow to the Voices of the Realm, "My apologies, the reference to the Ministry of Defense does have relevance. I was only pointing out that during it's inception, there was greater communication in military matters between the Great Houses and perhaps such open forum in a different venue could aid those maintaining safety in their wards that could spill into areas where the Iron Guard are protecting."

Lethe has joined the Thrax Benches.

"As the Iron Guard already works with each Great House to coordinate matters of security in each ward, perhaps we should see how we can best help the Iron Guard with security in the Lowers. If it pleases those in charge of the Guard. With our hundred sworn swords for the Houses, we might be a little stretched, but we could at least help." Alis seems to agree with the others.

"As Prince Victus states, the safety of Arx is a concern to all the Great Houses. House Velenosa is willing to help with efforts to keep the city protected," Eleyna states with a nods to the other High Lords.

Sparte straightens in his seat as talk shifts to the Iron Guard, a concerned look coming to his features as he follows the discussion.

"If I may..." The Marshal of Ostria offers. "Honestly, the meetings of the Academy of War often cover a lot of topics and discussion much like the Ministry of War did." Valerio pauses a moment to consider. "Aye, I'd venture it does so with even less politics. Seeing as those that serve and attend the Academy are all volunteers of a sort already. I would likely imagine this could be utilized in lieu of the Ministry and it's costs?"

"As I said, I've certainly no strict objection, but any such assistance will be done at the discretion and the direction of the Iron Guard; I've no interest in complicating the chains of command. At the moment, the Iron Guard is still the largest single standing force in Arvum. I would rather have those hundred swords patrolling their wards than diverting fifty of them to bolster a force of forty thousand," Alaric notes. "I have requested the Iron Guard take a greater hand in maintaining the inter-fealty communications between forces; if you feel that this has been lacking I will certainly relay these concerns to the leadership."

Sparte has joined the line.

Natalia does perk up when the Academy of War is mentioned, but she doesn't speak up. There's a smile sent Valerio's way, a quick look towards the Valardin bench (and the Keatons' part of it) and then she's going back to paying general attention again.

"If all of those Houses currently offering to spend part of their traditional share of the troop limits with the Iron Guard are doing so with the understanding that they will report to the Lord Commander of the Iron Guard, it's very charitable of you all, but probably not something that requires the intervention of this Assembly," Tikva voices thoughtfully from her space on the benches.

"More communication hardly ever hurts." Victus agrees. "If nothing else it could serve to promote and ease the minds of those who feel fear with all the news of nobility's death and the number of oddities coming out of the Lowers."

Alis inclines her head towards Victus in obvious agreement with him.

Sparte listens, fidgets in his seat, and eventually rises up. He quietly apologizes to a few people he slips past, as he makes his way to a place where he can be seen. In his Iron Guard colors, as usual. He makes no move to interrupt, merely giving a nod towards the leadership for the meeting and standing at the ready.

Calypso watches the back and forth, almost as if she might speak but in the end holds her tone. It would seem the General will hold for now, even if her eyes move as quickly as the speakers do.

Darren nods his assent to the King's point. "I certainly think we could do better on communication, Your Majesty," he agrees. "I can think of at least one very recent example where we should have been informed of a threat and were not." All said very lightly and in a pleasant tone, of course.

Sabella has left the Grayson Benches.

2 Grayson House Guards have been dismissed.

"Very good, then. I will encourage some higher performance targets with regard to developing better lines of communication between the forces of the wards. I will also note that the Iron Guard has already had some considerable success in corraling the sources of some of this violence, however; I am rather against this idea that their performance has been somehow lacking in this regard," Alaric declares. "Is there anything else you have to say, Princess Marian?"

Marian gives nod and then finally gets to her point, "Yes, please consider my proposal to raise the limit to 200, and then have a rotation of 50 that serve with the Iron Guard. It would give our soldiers an opportunity to work hand in hand with other soldiers from different houses and foster greater friendships at all levels of command."

"I'll certainly discuss it with the Lord Commander during our next meeting. Thank you, Princess Marian," Alaric declares. "Lord Arik, I believe you were next."

Turn in line: Aleksei

Arik lifts a hand, "I defer your Majesty, thank you."

Alarissa has left the Thrax Benches.

Pellinor, Maxene leave, following Alarissa.

Marian gives one more deep bow and then returns to her seat now that she's set forth her proposal.

Sabella has joined the Grayson Benches.

"Very well then," Alaric says unflappably to Arik before he glances at Aleksei. "Ah, Master Aleksei. Begging your pardon, but this is the Assembly of Peers, and the open throne is for the Peerage's benefit specifically. While I'd be perfectly willing to make an exception for an Archlector of the Faith of the Pantheon, well." He smiles apologetically. "Another time, perhaps."

Turn in line: Sparte

Jordan has joined the Commoner Benches.

Reigna has left the Valardin Benches.

Aleksei opens his mouth, and then he closes it. And then he laughs. "You know, sometimes I honestly forget." And then he gives a little salute and flops back into his seat.

Sofia has left the Lyceum Benches.

2 House Velenosa Guards leaves, following Sofia.

Alaric regards Sparte after getting a little message from Zelda. "Commander Sparte, thank you for stepping up. Since we were discussing the Iron Guard, I should think you would answer knowledgably regarding questions in regards to them," he declares. "If there are any specific questions the Peerage has for the Commander, do go ahead. Respectfully, of course."

Sparte bows deeply towards Alaric when spoken to. Is he nervous? Of course he is, but he is keeping his hands hidden behind his back. People will have to guess just how white-knuckled he is at the moment.

Leola stands, leaving the commoner benches. She nods to Aleksei, gives Sparte an encouraging nod, and moves out

Leola has left the Commoner Benches.

Lindsey, a rosy-cheeked disciple of Petrichor leaves, following Leola.

Arik does rise up now and dips his head to Sparte, "Given recent events in the Lowers and beyond the walls and the Iron Guards overwhelming numbers. What if any measures are you hoping to introduce to combat these concerning happenings?"

Ford has left the Thrax Benches.

Sparte dips his head to Arik when spoken to. "Lord Halfshav. The Iron Guard is dedicated to keeping the peace within Arx, and ensuring the city's safety. Because of the critical access to the city represented by the docks, and the high volume of people who move through the Lowers, we keep the highest concentration of Iron Guard patrols anywhere in the city there.

Sparte shifts his feet, taking a moment to breath before continuing. Air is important. "I can go into our policies there further if requested, but I assure you we are not lax in our duties. Regarding the matters outside of the city proper, we have worked with maps penned by the Knights of Solace to identify those routes where we can best use our hoursemen. Iron Calvary even as we speak are on patrols to ensure we are more aware of the state of the nearby forests. My seniors will be in contact with the various groups interested in assisting the hightened concern in the wake of recent events."

Arik watches Sparte from his spot in the Redrain benches and simply dips his head to the man before retaking his seat continuing on a conversation that seems to have developed around him.

Enoch seems to remain prfectly silent, though as Iron Cavalry is brought up, a seemingly intrigued Enoch looks to Sparte with great interest. Nevertheless, his eyes go back to scanning the surroundings.

5 Sanna House Guards, Petroc, the most unassuming man you have ever met arrive, following Cirroch.

5 Sanna House Guards have been dismissed.

Cirroch has joined the Redrain Benches.

"Very well then, that seems to be all. Thank you, Commander Sparte." Alaric stands up to regard the Assembly. "As no other issues have been brought forth for our attention, I declare this Assembly of Peers of the Compact of Arvum adjourned. May our Compact prosper and thrive as free and righteous people," he declares regally.

Natalia has left the Commoner Benches.

Sis, a redheaded morning person, Podraig, a young grumpy old man leave, following Natalia.
