I spoke with a noble lady over the past few days, and shortly after we spoke, she made an offer, to which I offered my by now regretfully practised reply. This is no reflection to her; she approached me for assistance, in my capacity as the first horn of the Lodges, and presumably felt this would allow some careful equality in the discussion.

No, I will not call her by her given name. She has a title, and a noble family.

I've had this request by the dozens, in my time in Arx. Each time, I respond the same; the respect I offer by using your title, and your family name, is offered to not just you, but to your family. To your station. You may feel this can be set aside, like a cloak; to those of us who call the commons our home, we can see that cloak dripping rain by the doorway, and we know you'll don it when you leave. Further, the cloak protects you, yes; but it also allows us without such to ensure we derive a little of the same protection.

Should I take your offer; of course, you will not be insulted. Your family? You know them better than I. The other noble present? I doubt they would say anything to me, of course; the nobility know well how to maintain their decorum; but I'd be noted as too familiar; and you, too familiar with the commons. The suggestion could be murmured that, should you desire to be known without your family name, that is easy to arrange; but you would not be able to pick it back up.

If you would not dream of referring to those of the Crown without their titles, or referencing the Dominus without calling them Most Holy; do not think I would not use your title. It is of respect to the institutions of Arvum, and not yourself. It is easy to lose the respect for such stations; far more difficult to maintain them.

I was speaking to a number of Arx's folks. I have been sought to support in integrating the newcomers to the compact, as I did once before, following the Silent War. I will strive to do so well; the Lodge will be in much need of new support and hands

It was a delight to spend time with Evaristo again, to watch him and his friends explore their love of spiders. I enjoyed introducing them to Porshia, who also enjoyed the event tremendously.

Yes, scribe, I did have a bath immediately before coming here.

Relationship Note on Apollo

Grandmaster Apollo certainly has a remarkable sense of humor, as well as knows exquisite artists, as one would expect.

Now I need to find a way to respond to this gentle teasing in kind. Perhaps a bucket of horse manure.

The expansion of the Lodges has, from all accounts, been a success. I get reports through the compact of people living safer lives, more secure in both their food and farming as well as giving us prior knowledge and better information about the potential for incursion where the Lodges have been seeded.

I'm now considering a second expansion. The first was good; I've no doubt of that. I've received letters, notes, reports, about the improvements in farming and support available, and the hands free within the domains, has been to the good of both the individuals concerned, and the nobility who stand for those domains. I hope to offer these same boons to those domains who have not yet benefited from this.

If I can manage the headache. Still, for the Compact, eh?

I've now two Thorns! I should seek out others who hold them and try to get more. So far it's been rather enjoyable.

I also need to find out more about Jadairal. So far I know they have very large, very interesting rats.

To those who may read this (and I suspect more than a few will, as it is a somewhat grand occasion, as even I'll admit, for once), I apologise. I'm not the best spoken of individuals, and I can write, but don't ask me to write a speech. That's what this requires, though. So. To those who read it now; yell at me. To those who might read it in the future; I'm so sorry, you deserved a better class of farmer.

Perhaps I've given you one.

The Lodge of Petrichor has spread across the land. What was originally a seed of an idea, of a way to help the Compact enjoy the blessings of Petrichor and enforce his word of Dominion, has become a reality in ways I barely ever dreamed was possible. My desk is filling up with missives and reports and requests from half a dozen domains, all across the Compact, and I am smiling as I respond, as my assistants, Lindsey and Innozentia, annotate and reply and bring things to my attention, that I barely had time to write a journal for the future. I was reminded it was my duty to Vellichor, and so, here it is.

For a thousand years, the Compact has been slowly beaten back. I do not apologise for saying this. We have faced terror after terror, threat after threat, and our history is one of remarkable tenacity. I think of all I know of history and I want to weep, but instead, I turn my tears to a better use. We have lost so much of Arvum, as we have been Abandoned by those who once swore oaths with us. We have lost so much of our history. The Lodge of Petrichor, if it does nothing else, will be attempting to reverse this.

We will, of course, offer our aid across the Compact. We do this already. We teach agricultural techniques to farmers. We'll help their animals and breed fine lineages and bloodlines for them, to better feed our people. What might be our most telling achievement, though, is our hunters. We know the woods, and the wild places still are so dark, and so dangerous. Tonight, in many places, they are safer than they've been in many years, many decades, perhaps centuries. We are watching, and we will make the Compact safe. We will protect the people of Arvum.

This is the word of Dominion.

To all who journeyed with me on the Victorious; thank you. As soon as I've thought over what we found, I'll let people know where we need to go next. I need to make some preperations, and I'm not perfectly sure, but I think we may be going north.

Quite far north.

Into the Everwinter.

I'd like to do it before winter falls, as well. It might help? A bit?

It's been a delight to work back in the Saik Greenlands.

It reminds me, every time I return, how much simpler life can be than the complications we make for ourselves. I do not mean the compact; but for all of us who walk this world. We can live at peace, simply, and make good and fine things.

I work for that world.

I've been going through my paperwork, and I've realised there have been an increasing number of requests on the Lodge's time. This has not been a bad thing; I see it as a compliment and acknowledgement of the work we've been doing. I'm looking at how best to manage these; I don't wish to simply prioritise those of high standing, as politically relevant as that might be, and I lack the necessary knowledge of the Compact to know where best to direct our efforts.

I'm looking at ways we can help more. I'm certain we'll find it, but I need to look back at how the various discipleships expanded. I wonder who would know

It has been about two weeks since my last missive, and I've not had a response as yet.

I'm pondering writing again. No, I shan't need additional sides of parchement. Two will be fine. I'll write on both sides and write small. Now where are my references about the Lodge ...

FARMING. AGRICULTURE.

Did you see those words? If you're looking for information on those, read on.

It's occured to me recently how much we're recovering from the archives; and how little of actual use we're putting in its place. The vast majority of information is the daily ramblings as we consider our place within the Compact; but for after the next catastrophe, and the Compact is trying to rebuild once more, hopefully the following will be of use.

Crop Rotation.
This is a method for maximising the use of fertile land for farming, over a period of seasons. It works by growing a series of plants in a set order, so that what is taken from the land one season is replaced in the next. This avoids needing to leave the land fallow, and allows a farmer to maximise the yield of his crop from a minimal acreage.

Plants best suited to this rotation ...
(What follows is a highly detailed and technical discussion of the importance of crop rotation. It is not riveting reading)

The Lodge is preparing to host Spring's First Feast; the last feast of winter. It feels good to return to warmer weather, and feel the sun that isn't just chilled by rain. After the Whispers helped me sort my wardrobe, I now just need to find something suitable to the lighter weather. And get out that waxed cloak; spring showers are dreadful so far!

It was delightful for Marquis Dante DiFidante to compliment me on the gown given to me by his family. I told him as much; and the lengths i'd gone to to accessorise around it. it is certainly old fashioned by the fast-paced standards of the textile industry of Arx, but I value it greatly, as I value all my gifts

Quarters were prepared at the Lodge of Petrichor suitable for the Archlector, should they care to take them. It is good to see the Lodge entrenching itself again, and using the cold weather as a time to prepare for the spring and the coming hunting season.
