It is not as bad as you might imagine it to be, and close enough to Ashford and nature in general to make exploring none-too-difficult. I have even been able to manage it, buried in duties as I am.

(Scholar note: The Duke was being fairly sarcastic)
I know -that-. It should have been obvious, and quit adding notes to this! Write your own whites, man.
Seriously -- welcome to Arx.

Any feelings I might have about the topic or any particular person, I will not write here, however.

It is hard, yes. It is also necessary. It should always -be- hard, I think, to write these letters. Discarding lives ... should never be an easy thing. If those who lead (nobility or military) seem tired, withdrawn, and not very jocular after something like this -- this is likely why.

I was literally about to write this very thing. Duty is the most important thing for anyone -- or should be. Our duties just differ depending upon our station.

If the Princess is unable to help come up with something, I would be glad of advice. Most of my colors are darker.

Most of my clothes are darker colors -- less suitable for spring, I think. I'll figure something out, and so will you!

I also am not questioning the person who did, or asking why they used whatever technique they used. I would be foolish to do so.
That's the difference here. My ire is not for everyone who did not go to war. To be angry with people simply because they were not fighting is ludicrous. You did read the entire journal, correct?
My specific point was for those who were not fighting, but had the gall to question how the military leadership chose to fight the battle. They were not there. They did not know anything about what was happening -- they have no business questioning anything.

For those people who are complaining about the leadership at Stormwall, or actions taken there, I have this to say:
If you were there, or you were at Setarco, and you fought, and have questions -- ask your commander, and do it privately.
If you weren't there? If you were anywhere else, in Arx or elsewhere, and were not shedding blood upon the battlefield? Feel free to find a rusty spear and stick it straight up your ass. You have -no- honor.

I cannot say that we won, for there is little victory at the cost of tens of thousands of our troops and a city. We survived.
Except...we didn't. Not all of us. I did not know Lady Eirlys Greenmarch, but I have heard that she was a hero. There are not words that can be offered to soothe the pain of a family member or loved one lost. There is only time. I feel for her friends, family and those who loved her though, as should we all.
I did learn a valuable lesson when Prince Aiden Grayson gave me command of the Grayson archers. That lesson is this: I was not ready. I bear the weight of many dead archers, especially when the enemy began to scale the walls and went into the city. I followed the plan that Prince Aiden set -- my skill...my leadership was not enough. I must correct this.
To the families of the men and women we lost -- I am sorry. As I said above, I know it does not help -- but I will bear the weight of my actions. Maybe it could not have been any better than it was. I do not know. I only know that I failed, and I must learn to be better.
I do wish to thank Count Thesarin Riven for his actions in saving my life -- I owe him, and can only begin with a drink. I am glad that Marquis Malesh Stonewood survived, and will heal. Corporal Violet Marjawn deserves our thanks for seeing, firing upon (and most importantly -hitting- whatever was driving the enemy forces at the wall. Recognition should also be given to Lady Emily Deepwood, Lord Michael Bisland and many others for their actions in fighting off the enemy -- as well as any others I have forgotten.
I do not look forward to the next battle, but I shall be there when I am needed.
Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
