I need your help husband. You're not dead, but you are gone and the ghost of you is everywhere. Our battles, even when fought apart were fought together and you've gone to someplace I can't follow. Tell me what am I to do in a city where you haunt me in memory? How am I to live with the rather large knight shaped hole in our home where you aren't? The children miss you fiercely and the precious firsts you will miss.

You never seemed wholly comfortable in the role you had to play, just as I was then growing accustomed to my own. I would like to think we each grew into the duties placed upon us, became the men of the hour that were required. If duty calls you now to other places to do other things, then I will wish you that same success - and to your successors - as I wished you before. I look forward to our next discussion over tea, it seem you will have many stories to tell.

Relationship Note on Edain
If one travels southwest from Suj'abbat, three horizons hence, one will find oneself in the Munas Eb'cis. The wind hits these dunes fiercely, changing their shape frequently, such that an inexperienced traveler will find themselves lost. That is not all that is uncommon. When the wind shapes the dunes just right, it will strike them in such a way as to produce a tone, as clear as the cloudless sky overhead, as though the Munas Eb'cis is singing. Following the sound of the song is dangerous, for it could lead the traveler where to where they need to be, or it could lead them further astray, making them forever lost.
The story that is told in Suj'abbat is of the fool, the thief, and the wise man. The three sought to travel together from Suj'abbat, and went southwest, crossing three horizons, and found themselves lost in the Munas Eb'cis.
The three men heard the song of the Munas Eb'cis, coming from a distant dune. The fool leapt to his feet and cried out: "Aha! This way!" The other two did not follow, and eventually, the sound of the fool's excitement faded from their ears.
Night fell. The thief awoke in the night to the sound of the song of the Munas Eb'cis, pitched differently than before, and coming from a different direction. Quietly, he stole the wise man's food and water and set off to follow the song.
The wise man awoke in the morning. He found that he had no food, and no water. He found that he had no fellow travelers left to rely upon. The landscape had changed completely from the previous day, and he did not know where he was.
The wise man did not wander. He sat, and waited, and listened. The Munas Eb'cis sang to him from one direction, in the same tone as the one followed by the fool. The wise man did not rise. The Munas Eb'cis sang to him again, from another direction, the same tone that had lured the thief. The wise man did not rise. The Munas Eb'cis became quiet. When the sands sang again, it was in a tone that the wise man could not only hear, but feel -- vibrating, in his heart. The wise man rose, and unhurriedly followed this song. Every step was like the bowing of a string, and the song continued for as long as he walked, and so he walked cautiously.
As the wise man walked, he passed the fool, who had been buried in a sand dune the wind shifted onto him as he ran, and suffocated. Some time later, he passed the remains of the thief, who had loaded himself up with everyone's food, and thus found himself prey to the predators of the night. The wise man continued, and it was only when a trading village was in sight that the song of the Munas Eb'cis began to fade from his ears.
There are romantic souls who insist that the song of the Munas Eb'cis was the wise man's husband, singing in their home, with a love so heartfelt that it carried across the dunes and protected him. The saying is that if the song of the Munas Eb'cis strikes you as though you were hearing the song of one who loves you, then it is the song that will lead you on your way.

When I was a younger woman fighting my way around the Oathlands, an equally younger Prince Edain gave me the honor of being one of my fans. I doubt either of us realized where our lives might lead back then; everything seemed so much simpler and all. He invited me to come to Arx as one of the smiths for House Valardin, and with my children grown I thought, why not? His patronage lead so many new people to the shop I had set up, and he honored me again by granting me a knighthood and title of Hammer of the West.
Here he is again, going down a path I doubt he saw coming, and part of me wishes I could follow him there as well. Maybe in time, that's where my journey will lead. Instead, for now, I will remember the words he told me his sister, Princess Tabitha, once told him: "In politics everyone is looking to get what they want and will turn on you to get it. Once you realize that, you realize there is never a reason to do anything other than what you believe to be right."
I promise to keep doing what I believe to be right and uphold the oaths I made to you and House Valardin, even if you aren't here to make sure that I do.

**Patron Pride - His Grace, Edain Valardin**
I am entirely happy to announce that this past week I received a message from High Lord Edain Valardin in response to my posting for a Patron. After a conversation the two of us have happily entered into a partnership as Patron (him) and Protege (myself). I am looking forward to working with him in the future and I hope that I can make him proud to call me his Protege as I am proud of my own.
A personal thank you to His Grace for putting his faith in me.

My youngest boy has told me since he was three years old that he would one day be a great knight, second only to the White Dragon of the West, who is the very best of men. You might call it childish nonsense, but I've met the High Lord of Sanctum more than once and he makes it a bit easier to believe that the dreams of children may not be such silly things after all.

It isn't for everyone. Some hate the cold. Hate the snow. Hate the ice. I find it beautiful. I enjoy the seasonal changes, of their cycles, and it reminds me of the Northlands - though it's far milder here than it is up in Farhaven. I will confess an eagerness to autumn, it's also one of the more lovely times of the year, with the leaves changing colors, but I'm still partial to winter.
I mean, it doesn't sound as if you could go wrong with maple bacon muffins, and I can't disagree with what Vance said, really, but...bacon does go well in damn near everything. Pancakes, waffles, scones...I think I hear Josie's kitchen calling my name for a raid.
Can't blame your dislike if you were stuck out in the cold all night, but I imagine it has left with you a bit of caution when asking for another person's bacon. On another hand, no one's going to toss the High Lord out of his own keep if you do.

I am exceptionally honored and humbled that you might put Sir Daemon and I among those you might consider living heroes. I am not sure I deserve that kind of regard, but also don't want to seem disrespectful or questioning my High Lord. That /you/ think as much is something I am very grateful for.
Really, I'm reminded that it's maybe been too long since Sir Daemon and I had occasion to ride into danger on the back of a war elk. Maybe.
