Relationship Note on Corban
I have been blessed in my search for knowledge on knights to meet Sir Corban Telmar. A pair of chance encounters on the same day led to enlightening conversation. The man sent me away with a list of books to read and an invitation to observe the King's Own in training. I have known knights, before, but to have found myself graced with the First Captain's tutelage has been an eye opening experience.
I was surprised to find the books he had written contained much of my own values and beliefs. Perhaps it should not have been so surprising, given we were both raised within the Faith and Compact, but on the surface? The differences between a knight from the Oathlands and a Lycene married into the Isles can seem stark. It was interesting to find that I have even behaved like a knight in several situations. Sir Corban is a skilled writer, which he will likely deny, but he made the information simple to understand without feeling as though anything was being lost.
When the opportunity to observe the training came about, I stood with a small gathering that watched the knights do drills in awe. One little boy declared he would grow up to be a knight just like them. I made the child a deal - I hope he holds to it. The training, however, was worth the awe of the spectators. To my eye? They performed flawlessly under Sir Corban's command. I am grateful for his patience and humor in helping me gain a better understanding of the commitments knights make.

I was able to meet with Sir Corban Telmar this week to discuss the future Academy of Limerance. He has literally written the book on honor, making his assistance in the academy something that would very much give it some backbone. He has agreed to give an opening lecture as well as help source a library on matters of oaths and fidelity to keep at the Academy.

One of Sir Telmar's white journals ended up on my list of 'Things to Do and People to See' earlier. I went down to the archives and I read it because my curiosity was piqued. Surprisingly when I got to the end of it, I couldn't disagree.
Traditions are the strongest pillar that holds up the House of Pravus. While honor is heavily debatable as a matter of subjectivity among some of our less reputed and distinguished, there exists a certain belief that we don't subscribe to the Ideals. This is fiction and far from the truth which is a much more complicated discussion or topic to write about in my white journal. It's simply to illustrate the fact that as the First Knight of Setarco, I will do my utmost to live by the code of chivalry.
Most certainly Harlex Valtyr used his Boon in the way which was most true to what and who he is. An admirable thing in an of itself most would say. Sir Corban's, a fellow knight, call to use the boon we will receive or have received for the betterment of all has inspired me, among other principle influences such as my love of art and nothing short of divine intervention. After lengthy consideration as to how I might actually go about bringing this desire into fruition I believe I have done due diligence in this regard and very much look forward to the audience with our very own King Alaric Grayson IV.

I came to put down my thoughts this evening as I often do, and a helpful scholar has informed me that someone has written of me. I asked to see this entry, to see only Sir Corban Telmar's kind words.

I had many fears and anxieties on setting out on the path I have chosen, from leaving the only home I have ever known and giving up the only life of servitude that I was adept at, to try to find a place for myself in Whisper House and to try my hand at being a courtier. Relationship Note on Corban
There are some family that are close to us. There are other family that are the foundations on which we draw our strength and comfort. You are one of those for me, Cousin. I cannot tell you how glad that I am that you are safe after your recent encounters. I thank the Gods that you are returned safe and sound.
And with that all said, I cannot tell you how proud that I am of you to see how well you have excelled in your chosen calling. It gives me comfort to know that you are there to protect our King each and every day.
Though you are no longer family in title, you shall always remain so at heart. I look forward to hearing all about all of it. We are definitely due some cousin time, very soon!

I did not mean to cast aspersions on the code of chivalry, or imply that one cannot question while following its tenets. In fact, I quite agree that part of accomplishing one's duty is to do due diligence and ensure that one is on the side of righteousness. As Prince Mydas said earlier, there is no honoring of Gloria in following like a sheep. Blind obedience is no show of faith, but rather is the act of one who willingly accepts a yoke.
I maintain, however, that there is a certain culture associated with such a code that makes it... uncomfortable to be questioned. I am glad if this is not your experience, and I am not, in anyway, trying to say that this is everyone's experience. But I have seen instances in which questioning is seen as something that is almost insulting. As if there is some implication that by simply asking, the questioner is casting doubt on the due diligence of the questioned. As if they are implying those questions have not already been asked.
Perhaps I am not being particularly coherent this morning. I did apparently not read agreement in Prince Mydas' words, so.

I agree with the notion of there being a time and place for questions. Starting to argue with one's commander about the need to charge when the order is given is not such a time.

You give succor to my fears, and ease those uncertainties back to smooth again. When the world is on fire, you blow away the flames better than anyone else.
It feels almost unfair to hand over a small burden to you for a time, because I've left your company every time eased, serene where I had trouble clasping tranquility before.
Let it be known you are the best of friends, level headed and clear eyed.

You remind me why I am grateful for such acquaintances as I have been blessed to know upon my arrival to Arx.
The king gains much by such a loyal knight with a good head on his shoulders. That you continued to pursue something to aid me, despite all that happens in your life, leaves me quietly humbled and glad for your help. Every stone on the path leads eventually to my destination. Sir Corban, I can honestly say I have fallen in love with her skill, the fact she also opens her forge to those seeking warmth in the winter is a kindness that speaks very highly to the wonderful woman I have found her to be. I am truly honored to be her patron.
