Relationship Note on Agatha

The Red Bear of Redrain has returned at last, and I couldn't be happier for it! It is always a joy having my family around me, and I feel all the better having Aggie here with us once again. Hearing her loud laughter spilling through the halls fills me with warmth. We need her more than ever.

Relationship Note on Agatha

How grand it is to hear of Agatha's expected return to the city! I saw for myself how inspired our newly recruited military officers were made by her presence — almost just as much as I was as a squire — and Aviaron's Peak is all the safer for it!

Relationship Note on Agatha

It is so good, beyond words, beyond -telling-, to see your face in my life again, so I can kiss it all over and laugh to see your reaction.

So wonderful. Absolutely. Your boistrous laugh and delighted smile, and, and! I could watch you run through your sword paces all damn day.

All. Damn. Day.

Relationship Note on Agatha

I am so thrilled to see my eldest sister after so many long months -- our travels seem to conspire against one another, and when I am here, she is there, or I am there, and she is here. For now, we are both, wonder of wonders, in Arx, so the world should tremble in fear, for all three of this branch of Redrain's daughters are here together. She is as beautiful and strong as I remember her, and I hope that my bravery will one day be half as much as hers.

Relationship Note on Agatha

One of my favorite memories from my childhood is braiding my sister Agatha's hair. Getting Aggie to sit still for longer than three minutes is a feat in itself so I would have to be quite clever about it. Sometimes it would be a story woven together from fragments of my day and other times it would be a sweet morsel I tucked into my pocket after dinner or filched from the kitchens during the day.

Once she was suitably distracted I would be able to spend at least an hour gently removing twigs and leaves from her mass of red hair, gently brushing it out with no less than two hundred strokes with my finest hairbrush. A story always worked the best with her despite the tasty treats our cooks came up with during the days. Even if most of it was just me being silly she always listened so patiently to me while letting me braid her hair into something either ordinary or something a bit more fanciful.

It was just lovely to spend such time with my big sister, the two of us alone without any care in the world. I know she humored me for the most part and was perhaps happy to shake those braids loose at the start of the following day but that just goes to show just how large and caring her heart is. I miss those days often enough but I keep the memory of them tucked close to my heart, safe and sound, and think on them when I am at my lowest.

When I think stealth and discretion, yours is the first name that comes to my mind, Princess Agatha. I'm pleased you've confirmed my best guess.

Really, I should do one of you and your Bear Scouts! Something very heroic and inspiring! I think that will be my next painting, if fact! I've seen them about enough that I think I can capture them all well enough. Noting, again, that I'm a novice. Hopefully it won't all just be smudges. If so, it will just be representing how fast you all are! That's creative thinking, right there.

Holy hairballs in a beef basket! I don't know how, I don't know if I will ever be so lucky again but I actually not only managed to land a hit on Princess Agatha during the fight, but I did serious damage more than once! She is incredible! Nothing like an amazing brawl to mark the beginning of a wonderful friendship!

If you are interested in shark wrestling....

Have I got a story for you.....

It all began one day when I was on a ship, far out in the ocean. And, I saw fit to..... dive in.

The rest is best told in person.

Oh! Does this mean I get to be Summer Bear? I would, of course, understand if that title were already taken! I would be happy to spar if it is not taken and such a thing need be earned, of course. Real spar, not the ones where people pretend to hit me so I feel good about myself. I hate those.

If you're truly interested in wrestling a shark, which I do not advise, all one must do is splash around in the ocean waters like a wounded fish. It helps if there is blood in the water too.

Honestly though Princess, there are sharks that are big enough to swallow you whole in one bite out there. I was recently visiting my sister Alarissa at the Thrax Estate, and they have these jaws of a shark that are big enough to swallow /the room/ put up in a place aptly named 'The Maw'.

Some things even bears should not push their luck on.

Relationship Note on Agatha

The Scholar who directed my attention to Princess Agatha Redrain's journal was, dare I say, smirking. Something about large letters and bears?

It makes interesting reading, at any rate. Regarding Her Highness' comments on the season, I might say:

1) I generally do not wear full armor in the city, as it serves little practical purpose (unless duties require it, which mine do not) except to demonstrate to all who care that one can, in fact, afford full armor in the city. Likewise, I do not believe I have ever worn a bear helm, nor had any children not related to me by blood ever jump on me, much less every block.

2) I would not suggest myself as the leader of a scouting company unless you wish to send /another/ scouting company to find us all after I get us hopelessly lost. While I have a moderate degree of talent in many things, I must confess that wilderness navigation is not one of them.

3) General tips for weathering (ha! ...forgive me) the summer heat - do not schedule physical practices or heavy degrees of exertion for the hottest point of the day, particularly if you will be working outside. Before dawn and around dusk are the best times to exercise in the summer, and I myself prefer the pre-dawn hours. Wear lighter clothing (in weave and fabric) whenever possible, and styles which are loose and flowing, with dark colors for preference. This is especially important in Arx, where the mesas tend to lift us up where we might find a steady breeze. If you tend to sweat heavily, less clothing is better, both for smell and to allow the sweat to dry more quickly. If your duties permit, it's often wise to schedule an additional cool bath just after the hottest part of the day, to wash off the dried sweat and accumulated dirt - this will help with itchiness and stickiness. Drink plenty of fresh water or juice - alcohol is lovely, but not the best to keep you healthy in the heat, and milk spoils quickly. Open windows wherever possible to let the breeze flow into your rooms. Hot, still air is not only unpleasant, but it breeds miasma and can cause sickness.

In hopes that this helps our Northern brethren, and anyone else experiencing the heat for the first time.

Swimming in the ocean is always nice, and though it sounds crazy, taking a hot bath is always good too. Everything feels cooler after getting out of a hot bath and it washes off that sticky sweat too.

It's a win win.

Swimming in the ocean is good exercise too though, you can even occasionally wrestle sharks.

Perhaps we should have some Bear Scholars as an offshoot of your Bear Scouts? I would be happy to listen to their grand tales of adventure around the hearth like we used to do in Farhaven! I suspect that our instructors from childhood imagined I might have different life choices as well. Do you remember how often I ended up face-planted into the snows during those lessons? Ha.
