I need to put a team together for Prince Laric Grayson; first, someone who can command a small army of laborers (an islander would be perfect for the role), second a historian (of the Reckoning to be exact), and third a master of metal (gold) and stone. For the first two, I have no idea who to reach out to but for the last role, I believe the Legendary Smith, Josephine Arcuri would be extremely helpful, if I can convince her to join this project.

Relationship Note on Peri

I met Lady Peri at Boldness Espressions during one of my days of travel. In my attempt to acclimate myself to the new city, I have been randomly selecting different venues to visit.

From the start, I was intrigued by the noblewoman, ripe with knowledge, full of vim and vigor. I wonder now as I had not taken notice then how exactly she takes her coffee. Perhaps hers was a strong brew but I envied her energy and enthusiasm. I look forward to meeting with her against soon.

Winter is always a pleasant time - it removes the harsh lines of the city. You can forget you are in the stone, pretend you are in nature once more, with the forests and the trees. It was a secret love of mine, when it would snow when we were out on patrol in the Gray Forest, up in trees. Pulling your furs tight, listening to the fire crackling as the snow tried to cover it and failed.

It is easy to say I miss those days, but the freedom to be that person was given to me by tragedy. These days I may have more responsibility, I may be kept from the woods, but I would not go back and give up what we are now.

I have been talking with ArchScholar Sina and Duchess Delilah about knotty topics related to Vellichor, history, the future and our own knowledge of ourselves. It's both interesting and intriguing to discover that I am not the only one with these questions.

Dear -----,

This may very well be my last letter to you. Too frequently as of late, lives are consumed by the loss of those returned to the wheel. Whatever purpose these have served for my healing, they seem too restraining now. It's too unpragmatic a practice to continue and still hope to move on, and there is ever more to move on from.

House Grimhall's finances lack some of the complexity of my former post, but the reduced demand leaves time for other enriching tasks. You'd be pleased to know I've been corralled into helping Sorrel reallocate those freed into positions that serve the House and military. Her efforts lack the after-taste of more performative generosities that saturate the area. Despite the talk, I actually think her a fine custodian of our customs. We'll see.

All my love,
Cass

Relationship Note on Lorenzo

Somehow, even in the midst of winter, my amazing husband manages to find beautiful, dried flowers to decorate our room. The scent and colors are like a promise of the spring to come, even as I watch snowflakes fall outside the window.

It has been some time since I have written a journal. Mostly what I write these days is letters. I rarely have time to put my thoughts and experiences down as I might sadly. There has been a lot of work going on lately. A new Chapter House in the works as well as recruitment efforts for the Crimson Blades. That is all seeming to go well. Contracts continue to come in as well. The Great Road has brought great profit, but I do not like the cost. Hopefully we can stem the tides of blood that seem to be coming.

Totally separate from the company Sandreef Point continues to grow. A manor in the Valardin ward is being worked on, though other things have had more priority. I admit to being adamant on having some hand in repair and decoration of my own home. Even if it makes things go slow. I know it makes Thorley roll his eyes some times, but I want a place that feels like a home. Especially since 'home' has changed so much over the years. The north is home, Sandreef Point is home, and Arx is home. Strange how that has happened.

I have to say the dawnstones that have come in from Sandreef Point are particularly stunning. I need to find a jeweler who would be willing to make a necklace for me and brooch for Thorley. There are so many talented people in Arx, many I have yet to meet. Maybe I can be social this week and go out? We will see. I have routes to look over and more orders to write after this. Plus a finance meeting.

Have I mentioned that I miss being a plain scout with no real responsibility sometimes?

I know thralldom is done for but just in case whipping is still in effect; what I meant by the Lyceum Hall is my favorite of the halls, I mean the statues.

I found a set of small cloak pendants at a shop today when I passed through, and purchased all of them. I then passed them along. From the confused messengers I received in return I find that I must gift things more often so it is not seem so strange.

It is good to realize when you've made a mistake and accept that the path you took was the wrong one to start with. Thankfully, I'm wise enough to realize that I did this. I wish I could take what happened back, but it's in the past now and what was given cannot be returned. I will just be more careful in the future when my heart feels like it's going to be foolish.

You're never too old or young to learn these important lessons in life.

I do not remember the last time I felt like the wide-eyed wander I seem to be since I've arrived in Arx. It is true that I have traveled extensively; Seen many places, met many people but nothing like the way it is in the main capital city.

At first blush, traversing the streets is overwhelming. My senses have been heightened by the sights, smells, sounds, and tastes I've experienced. The clothing here is nothing like I've seen before. Since there are so many flavors and customs in this melting pot, fashion takes on trends one does not find elsewhere. Marrying the Mourning Isles with Redrain or even Lycene touches is not typically the norm, or at least I have found this to be, in the lands proper pertaining to those fealties. I have been inspired to seek a clothier here so that I may put my old clothing to rest.

I have met some wonderful and interesting people in my random travels. There is no shortage of people in the city. They all have a story to tell, all come from varied and colored pasts. I cannot wait to delve deeper into their tales.

Relationship Note on Mikani

Ode to Freedom

There now upon the shores of Reedreef blows
A breeze of change, and shift in tides below.
The shackles that had bound the children young
Now broken, and from wrists and ankles flung,

Designed by she who knew their deepest pain,
And rose, though scarred, with heart that none could tame -
Whose sail and prow the wind and surf do ride,
Whose name is sung by Skald with teary pride -

Yet fierce her will amid the storms and squalls
To see freedom for those held fast as thralls,
Who so long were bent with fear and longing
Now rise with hope from bold Mikani.

Coming back from Southport recently, you could truly see the falling of snow the further north from our beautifully warm weather to the chills. While I crave, already, those warmer days - at least the scenery is an unblemished painting for us all to see.

Today I have learnt that mammoths do not like their tales being tugged. You can get stomped.

Same can be said for bearded Counts. A tug of their beard may land you up high where the air is so thin.
