Always love it when a contract is completed, you know. One of the things, I do like about the Great Road? The people you meet going down it. Organizing patrols isn't my usual forte unless we're guarding a caravan. But there's always that charm when traveling rural areas. Especially when it's quiet. I think there's a good potential for business here.

Relationship Note on Sorrel

Eeeeeh, my puppers likes the snow too. It's great. I just let him out and he pounces into the stuff until he gets tired. Then we move onto other things.

I'm proud to see more and more people coming by the Salon, I look forward to what we will be able to do moving forward and thank everyone for the support they have given.

Relationship Note on Sabine

A chance meeting in the Shrine of the Thirteenth led to a very interesting conversation with the Countess of Fortezza di Iriscal. She is extremely generous -- I am anxiously awaiting the luxury brocade piece that is being made from the bolts she sent Lady Margret and me. I only hope I am able to do its beauty justice.

It's always fun when a family dinner leads to new meetings and curiosities. I will have to learn more about this southern style of fighting and see what challenges it presents. Something to look forward to.

Dame Ida sent over the initial sketches for the House Sword/Spear. I could not be more excited. It is going to be a momentous occasion upon its forging, and there will have to be many thanks made to those who made this possible.

Relationship Note on Arcadia

After Lady Arcadia demonstrated how she had trained her canary to sing along with a whistle , I am convinced she's actually more of an artist than she claims.

Relationship Note on Brigida

A wonderfully wise woman who dislikes the cold. I must remember to find her a very nice cloak, or perhaps a wearable blanket.

I love the snowfall in Arx. It makes everything seem to serene and clean (when it's not green). Even so, I find myself rushing from one place to another, spending as little time as possible out of doors, that I might come in out of the cold sooner rather than later.
I think the lack of sunlight has put me into an odd sort of melancholy. There's no other explanation for it. My life, at least, as far as I'm concerned, has been going quite well lately. The Mercies are doing well. I'm strong in my Faith. I have no real complaints, save for a few that.. while aren't new, have come to the forefront recently.
I've been toying with the idea of an Atrium in the House of Solace for quite some time. A place where patients, Mercies, Knights of Solace, and even just other members of the community can come during inclement weather and still get to enjoy pure sunshine, and smell the earth as plants thrive all around them.
First things first, though. We'll need to organize some sort of fundraising. I'm terrible at parties, and not just throwing them, but even attending them. I suppose a party planner wouldn't hurt. It also wouldn't hurt for me to find a teacher who can better my skills in agriculture. After all, if I'm going to grow healing herbs in the atrium then I'll need to know how best to do so.
It's too late for this year, but maybe next year I won't experience this same sort of melancholy when winter sets in and maybe it will help others that are also afflicted with this seasonal discomfort.

I think I'd like to try my hand at learning the sword a bit more. But there's always been things that needed tending to before personal wants. Maybe in the next few months I'll get back to my training.

It would seem that I have of late been tardy in almost everything I attempt. Too late to provide teaching to at least one potential student (though she wrote me a lovely letter while turning down my offer of aid), too late to properly assist a research effort from the very start, and probably too late to notice other things I have forgotten. Is this the onset of 'elder' status, or merely a sign that I need to allow myself more naps, or write more notes with which to prompt myself to action?

The Confessor's Laboring Song

Princess, can you look and see—
In a bush or up a tree?
Princess, Highness, off the track—
Hello, Tikva, welcome back!
Princess, Princess, riddle a rhyme
we shan’t solve them every time.

Time to hunt and time to scour
Inquisitors gather hour to hour,
Down the pub you’ll find them slack
Princess, Highness, mind the lack
ale’s just the treat to wet the whistle
before your troops are lost in the thistle.

Can’t say yes and can’t say no
Beware! the night is going slow!
Highness, Princess, our tab is long
maybe if you write us a song
we’ll gather our papers while we may
and find our riddling answers’ stray.

Is this what you had in mind?
Gentlemen, you're in a bind--
Now pick up your tankards, and bottles, too,
and we'll finish up this round for true
and then it's back to work for all of you
or no promises I won't tell Sally, too!

I have been doing quite a bit of work for House Navegant lately, to further their own aspirations, and I am finding it quite fulfilling to be able to do so. Thanks to the Count for the opportunity.

It is astounding how quickly one can fall so very behind on all the goings on in the city... or at least, how quickly one (me) can feel that way. A quick jaunt and back and I feel.... the equivalent of an interruption of a task. Like...

what was I even doing a moment ago?

I'm starting to think that the only one who really likes the snow is Marquessa Pudding, my big white dog. She was snorfing down cookies at the tea shop earlier, and when we left to go home, she cooled off by rolling in and eating the snow. I suppose it's appropriate, since she's so big and fluffy, all that fur must get warm, but she's still a silly doggy.

Relationship Note on Brigida

Charmingly clever, bold and quick-witted. Perceptive and gifted with a sharp and articulate grace. Does not seem to suffer fools gladly. And, beneath it all, very kind and wise, I think.

I must admit I am quickly growing fond of Archlector Brigida of Petrichor.

A breath of fresh air. One I hope to enjoy often.

I was musing to myself the other day and wondered am I a good man?

Is it subjective or is there something intristic that makes a person good?

I feel I do not have the wisdom for this.

As I wear this cozy piece of warm fabric about my neck,
I remember how much I am indeed loved at this difficult season in my life.

Then news comes that makes things bright,
I look forward to the future.
