I misspell one word, and I keep paying for it after three years! Mica! I meant to write 'mica powder' not 'mice powder'!

My older brother recently came to Arx. It seems he came to watch over me like he always has. It is great to have him here. I missed him so much

For my birthday, I caught a fish, met someone new, laughed with those I love and did /not/ fall into the river. I deem the coming year a successful one, all of the signs and portents are there.

As I get older, I find better comfort in the war room than on the front lines. I understand both intricately. I still enjoy the rush of battle. But risking my life has become less and less viable over the recent years.

Maybe I should be thankful that there aren't any immediate wars to be attending on a battlefield. There's something nostalgic when I think about it though. The anticipation and the passion of two sides colliding.

Sometimes when I think of leading the Compact against the Gyre, I feel that same sensation. Like a distant sensation that I just can't grasp fully. An inkling. Embers.

I need a hobby.

Relationship Note on Elgana

I have just remembered that I have a box of dried, dead mice in my room for a project which never saw the light of day.

It has not been opened in almost a year.

I feel like this is somehow your fault. Personal responsibility is for the birds.

It's been a busier week that I've had since coming onto dry land. I guess its worse because everything still seems frozen and miserable out too, but I still find time to accidentally step on toes. Figuratively. I wasn't so drunk as to just literally walk on someones feet.

But if its going to be dark all the time I think the day that happens is coming soon.

I should have destroyed that stupid helm of Galen's with the reindeer horns years ago. He's going to poke someone's eye out with the damn thing!

I recently visited the Ivy Covered Watchtower by Seawatch Gate for a gathering of people who loved books. It was hosted by Princess Reese Grayson, who handed out copies of books on a great variety of subjects. Reading them has made me laugh or think or suffer; they're interesting, and they are another way the Crownlands General in these times of darkness yet remains a light.

It is one of the great honors of my life to write and play for Lady Azolla Nightgold. It's moving every time I hear her sing.

Relationship Note on Reese

I had occasion to attend the Princess Reese's book party. I must admit, it was more than worth hauling myself out from the Kay for: she had bookshelf after bookshelf of useful tomes, which she was handing out for free. I'm sure this will keep me busy for at least a couple of weeks while I go through them. Some of them reference points of history I'm aware of, providing another perspective to an event, and some are wholly new to me, yet both are equally welcome in wealth.

I look forward to seeing the Princess Reese's library. From all accounts it's very extensive and well worth the visit.

I find myself struggling for something to say, something to write.

Some thought to allow me to put pen to paper.

Alas, I have come up empty.

... Must be a joke there, but I'm too tired to figure it out.

My brother, Lyonis, writes all the time. Even in the gardens. He's always been so frail and... Well, bookish. I love books. He makes it na obsession. I do wonder what I will learn from him next, though. Perhaps he will find a book to stop a war or bring back the dead. That wouldd be something, certainly.

Lady Jennyva called me 'wise' today. That was a first!
Glad to see her back in Arx - we met at the Shrine of the Queen of Endings, like that first time we met. So much to talk about.

Dust attracts dust.
A cocoon of spun gold
Holds the slow barge of the moon.
The cold of hoarfrosted echoes.

Haze attracts haze.
At either end of the river's edge
The silence is terminated.
A spell calls forth favorable winds.

Leaf attracts leaf.
The bitterchew gentles my soul
Like a pack of dogs gentle a newborn fawn.
Every wound is also an eye.

(scribbled in a fainter, less-steady hand:) Begged a fat pouch from a skinny man and now can't find a seller. Not in the alley, not in the knock or the park or the scent. Rich for once and no one to take my coin, mildewed canvas tarpaulins remind me of cloaks and flap like the shadow of the mirrormask Falak'a'sib, Eye of the Prophet who opens like a lily a fist a leaf

Father, do not let Lord Braden's lack of respect for others, eat away at you. You are a good and just man, and you should not feel agony over having seen potential and wanting to foster it. Not all things turn out as we hoped for.

Lord Braden's actions are his own, and those that see that, know that it is not due to anyone but himself.

Instead, focus on the the things that you can do something about. For, none of us can change Lord Braden, but Lord Braden, himself.

Speaking of recently arrived individuals, I was pleased to discover that Dianara Whisper is now residing here in the capital as well. I simply cannot wait to see her again, and catch up.
