Ha! I finally remembered her name!

...

All it took was someone else telling it to me, but that's no surprise, there. Still, that's a mite less embarrassing than greeting her by only her initials.

Diary Readers,

I am a Devotion of Limerance, and I adore that. I adore the God that gave me direction. It means that sometimes people come to me about advice or thoughts on the matter of this God. I am not the voice of Limerance. So I think I might offer a few ideas on what to pray to the Gods for on your future spouse, or even your current one. Please though, take this as you will. Everyone's path is their own.

This first one is that your future spouse, be a commoner love match or a honor-bound duty match, is that they follow the Gods. You need to have equal footing. They don't have to follow your patron God of choice, but they should understand faith. If you are strong in the faith, you might feel the temptation to slide back if they are not on equal footing with you. If you are weak in the faith, they will not be able to hold you up when you doubt.

You will doubt. We all doubt. So when you are looking for a potential match, think first of the Gods. Pray to them that they bring you to the one that shares your devotion to your level; whatever that may be. Speak to the clergy to find what your level might be if you are not sure. The Gods should be a front part of your household. You should honor them as is right.

Now, this is just my thoughts as a Devotion. It is not speaking for the Faith on whole. You must as always follow your true path, whatever it might be. There is only one you and you are the only one that must walk the path before you. When you set down your feet, decisions are made. Even inaction, is in fact, an action. Travel well on that path. Love one another and be kind.

Relationship Note on Svoli

Hearing the reports back from Volkov Woods make my heart heavy.

Not only has the Compact lost a House but familes have lost husbands, wives and children.

I mourn them all as well as Lady Svoli Volkov who talked to the horses. She was at truly blessed person. I shall miss her truly.

Sometimes all you need is someone to be there. I'm slowly learning that isn't a terrible thing. I hope justice is served. It's all I have at the moment.

The Volkov of Volkov Woods. The Steelhart of Highhill. The Moores of Acorn Hill (save for one). The county at Cedar Vale. These noble houses and much of their people have been lost.

At what point in time will it start to be clear that the Compact isn't able to protect its own when entire houses are wiped out? If an overlord isn't able to provide safety so that the common can live their lives in peace and prosperity, then that oath is based on a lie.

I can imagine future Shav'arvani and even Compact citizens thinking twice about bending the knee, and studying these house massacres as textbook examples of the Compact speaking big and then actually being weak. I worry those Shav'arvani that should be accepted into our Compact and to the embrace of the Faith would instead look to other foreign powers that seem to be able to provide protection.

This charming lady of Melaeris is not only an unusually accomplished artist, but also flatteringly enthusiastic about having me tap my fund of old tales dug up from obscure corners of history. She even goes so far as to say that she wants me to sit for her.

When I'd attack in the snows, back in the day, I planned on eating from the stores of them I moved against.

An awful risk. If it fails, it leaves yours broken, demoralized, and stranded in the cold, with a hard work at salvage.

It seems my youngest niece, Colette, has come to the city. Finally, a niece young enough that I don't find it weird to be called 'uncle'.

A brisk winter jaunt, 'ambush', and encampment and I'm now a part of the Society of Explorers along with Shae and her cousin, Lady Amari. I think all three of us are looking forward to not just the rigors ahead, but hoping to learn more about the studies of interest that we've recently been delving into.

Relationship Note on Vitalis

I wish to thank Lord Vitalis Mazetti for conducting Amari, Kedehern, and my Society of Explorers' tests. Especially in midst of winter, in all of the snow and cold weather. The work you put into the tests is deeply appreciated. And I look forward to getting to work with you more out in the field on SoE expeditions and business.

I am excited that not only did I pass my Society of Explorers' test, but so did Amari and Kedehern! All three of us have joined the Society of Explorers, I look forward to all the exciting and dangerous adventures we will have together, as well as with our fellow members too.

Congratulations Amari and Kedehern on passing your tests!

For the first time in a few years I find myself without any proteges. I remember noting to Lord Aethan when I made my offer to him that I was not a meddlesome sort, and that has always rather been my style I suppose. I'm there when needed (I hope I was, at least!) but otherwise let my proteges go about whatever it is they care to go about doing. I very much enjoyed watching Kennex grow and being a small part of that, thanks to Lord Aethan's invitations, though I wonder if such opportunities are still out there. I find myself also wondering now what sort of patron I have been, as well as what sort of patron I should be in the coming years. Surely it will depend on the protege, should I find a new one, and what hopes they have for their future.

With how many bottles of hard drink I've purchased lately, I sometimes wonder how long it will be before someone asks me if everything is well, after which I become the subject of an interrogation as to why I'm drinking so much. Let this record show that not only is it not for me, but that it is proving very effective at calming the nerves when one is in a state of considerable anxiety.

Naturally, this leads to the question of why I have been scouring the city for strong drink of different types, and the simple answer to that is because I am trying to figure out which one will be received the most favorably. I rarely drink something strong myself, to the point that they all taste roughly the same to me, and they all burn the same way when going down. I realize that isn't exactly true, considering I prefer different types of honey in different types of tea, but that merely illustrates how little it is that I drink whiskey or rum or brandy or any of the others like them.

It's only a matter of time before someone interrogates me about the coffee purchases. Gods forbid if I have to explain /that/ in public.

(this is a sketch done primarily in charcoal. It is a lightly done raven that seems to be on a perch, though the legs are not fully drawn. The image is a profile with the avian's beak pointed to the left. The single mote of color is in a distinct single feather near the back of the head facing the viewer done in red. There are only three words below the drawing.)

It is truly a tragedy what has happened to House Volkov. They bent the knee and rejoined the Compact, through their fealty to House Fidante. They had relative peace and I can only imagine prosperity under that banner, but for reasons unknown and by current reports, has been reduced to nothing. Down to the last they have been moved to the Wheel, if the gods are kind. My heart is heavy not only for the people of Volkov Woods, but also for their liege. The bonds of fealty between liege and vassal are frequently strong, unshakeable, and inviolable. Destruction and death of this magnitude is a truly unsettling and insulting act against the Duchess of Roses and her household.

It does bolster my own spirits in these troubling days to know that should tragedy strike, the Duchess of Tor will not shrink from putting her foot down. That House Fidante will not lay down when aggression finds itself cast toward itself or its vassals. We of House Mazetti will watch as these matters unfold and should the call to us be made, we will stand prepared to answer.
