I'd like to reiterate that I made a bad joke that came off WAY meaner than I intended. I again apologize to those affected, as I have already apologized to them privately.

I am sorry.

I hope to mend fences and make things right.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

I think I was just having a moment. Not a good one. I've apologized.

Sometimes babies are a little like horrible sea monsters in that all this stuff comes violently out of them, sometimes very suddenly, and you get overwhelmed and people come rushing to your rescue, but at the end of it all, everyone needs a bath, especially the baby, three nurses, and me.

And now the baby's asleep and perfect and easy to love.

Relationship Note on Niklas

As one of the people who's both brought life into the world in the form of a child and kept life in the world in the form of changing the tide of battle, I can tell you that ordinary "magic" neither diminishes nor is diminished by extraordinary magic.

Also, there are a lot more people who appreciate the spellsinging than the baby, because it literally helped keep them and their comrades alive. During battle. Which you were not present for.

Hopefully you were present for the conception of your baby; I mean, Sabella does seem to like you an awful lot, and the rest of us put up with you on her behalf.

Congratulations for successfully achieving something that it seems like your wife planned and pursued with minimal input on your part.

Relationship Note on Galen

It's hard to believe I've been married to this incredibly special man for a year now. War and babies cannot come between us. We're still just as in love as we were a year ago!

Relationship Note on Coraline

You have become quite dear to me, and I am thrilled to see you progressing so much. Being knighted is just the first step, but I'm so proud of you for taking it. For committing so seriously to honor and helping your fellow man. I do want to see you happy, and I know that we have a serious struggle ahead of us as Thrax knights who happen to be women. We will get push back, but we will stand our ground, dig in our heels, and continue to prove our worth.

Always remember that you are loved, and though we are cousins by marriage, I still consider you close family. You are a strong woman and I am proud to stand by your side.

Relationship Note on Leona

You are like a sister to me, and you inspire in me faith and loyalty and camaraderie. I feel lucky to have married your brother in part so that you would be my sister. You are amazing and inspiring. There's no one I'd rather have as part of my family.

And when Galen gets frustrated that we're ganging up on him together, it's because we are.

I'm glad your nephew has your eyes. (And his father's eyes, too, but siblings do look alike.)

Skald liked my song! He liked it! I'm so excited.

I should write him a new one. Here's my new draft:

Even without nice options, not choosing's a choice:
Whether keeping one's silence or raising one's voice.
Not doing's like doing, though it may cause one strife:
Freedom's not easy, when each choice changes one's life.
Fight for freedom for all men with one's hands unbound
Fear not the poor choices and let freedom resound!

First draft. Still needs some tweaking!

I'm very excited about the progress we're making in planning for the rebuilding of the County of Darkwater. It's a massive undertaking, and yet, it seems that we will make what was almost leveled into a beautiful home for many people. All of the thralls who work on the rebuilding of infrastructure will be paid a fair wage, enough to free them, and they'll be encouraged to settle there. We'll be working on the lighthouse and the keep. We'll be making the port into a real destination.

Not only will people want to visit Darkwater for the shrine, but it will be an important stop for the military and an essential trading port. We have plans, and we have people eager to execute those plans.

Anyone interested in investing in Darkwater is encouraged to get in touch with me or Lady Carita. This is an exciting opportunity!

Relationship Note on Elara

Elara,

You are gone now, and I knew you were gone the moment I saw the stone fall. I ran to lift it, pregnant as I was, holding on to that little bit of hope that Marquis Ford and I could get you free in time. It was for naught. We wanted you to live but we knew you were gone.

I'm glad you enjoyed borrowing my leather armor, bright aubergine and lurid green, covered in musical notes. I know you loved music, just as I did. I sing prayers in your memory. May the Queen of Endings and Beginnings give you a new and harmonious beginning when your turn on the Wheel comes.

On this day, Prince Kyrios Thrax came into the world, screaming and with a head of black hair like his mother's. His eyes are likely to be the storm blue of his father and he resembles the Warlord immensely.

This trip to the Isles has been utterly eye-opening. The Mourning Isles are beautiful and culturally diverse, with a great deal to offer. Not only that, but they are in a great flux, figuring out who they are in this modern world, with some traditions conflicting with older traditions. It is a wondrous thing to be part of, to learn about this people that I have married one of their princes.

I shall be very glad to be home, however. Some were born for the sea, but I fear I was not. Not in the least. Still, some of the islands have mountains and forests, and all of them have beautiful views.

The best part of being Minister of Productivity for Thrax is that I get to network with all of the other ministries to help improve things for the Islands. It means I get a peek at a lot of different activities, including economic and military and social initiatives. We're rebuilding, so there's always something to do. Rebuilding and growing!

Speaking of growing, I'm at 36 weeks and ready to meet this baby. I'm giddy about motherhood. It's going to be so happy. I can't wait to see Galen as a father. I'm thrilled.

Relationship Note on Monique

We can be friends, as long as you understand that I believe you to be Oathbroken and in need of penance for that fact. I believe you need to pray to the Gods for forgiveness and strength, and perhaps take a long time atoning before you choose to enter into a similar vow. I want you to be my friend, and I want you to have standards. I am sorry that you had to go through the painful process of choosing to break an Oath, but the only way to heal is to atone.

Sir Corban and I had a conversation about this previously, because it saddens me to know that my friends are Oathbroken. It saddens me. I know that he's working to atone, and I know that he has taken vows never to wed again. I expect him to keep those vows with a ferocity with which he did not keep his previous ones. I hope that for him, it is easier to serve unwed, without his noble title.

Life is a list of choices, and breaking an Oath is a choice. Maybe you had good reasons, and maybe you were better off in the eyes of the Gods breaking the Oath than keeping it, but either way, I hope that you will pray and atone. You should not make light of this. This is your family and your name that you represent here. This is the nobility that you represent here.

Others who have divorced have done nothing to atone. They have not treated their Oaths with seriousness nor their Oathbreaking with penance. They are the ones I am critical of. And should you get married tomorrow, I do not think I could trust you as a friend, because I would know the lack of respect with which you treat sacred institutions.

Relationship Note on Vanora

There is nothing I like less than an oath breaker. That's what divorce is, after all: a breaking of an oath. It's frankly disgusting to me that a fine house like Grimhall should wish to marry an oath breaker to its heir. As an Oathlander, I'm all for upholding the Isles' traditions of Duty and Honor above all. This betrothal that's been announced is an abrogation of duty and honor, however.

There's nothing to celebrate here. Only sadness and regret. Those involved should be ashamed of themselves.

Relationship Note on Caith

Because I like to record my silly songs for posterity, here's the one I wrote for Caith:

A derring-do adventure girl
With bright green eyes and champagne curls
Did have the love of many boys
Sadly for them, they were but toys!
She was at home on land and sea
To learn new things was the bee's knees!
No handsome lad her heart would break
Too busy to notice with notes she'd take!

I need to come up with a better name for the baby. Luca suggested Furious, but I shot that down. Magpie suggested Magpie, and that one also was dead in the water. At least I still have time before it comes.

I have sung every note that can be sung, at this point, at least twice. Always by my side were Lucita and Tikva. We are a team, a choir, and together we serve. It is strange, in many ways, to be a military asset and thus a military target. Ian had a good plan, and he protected us admirably. I am glad that Galen put him in charge of our safety. Without Ian, we might have lost a chorister. Without the choir, we might have had many more dead. We almost lost Tikva in the first skirmish, but she pulled through. Dark resonances.

As it is, we are weighted with the news that Baron Estaban, Lucita's beloved husband, was killed in combat at sea. He is not the only one, of course, but he is the one that is most personal for us, the one that hits our company the hardest. They were still newlyweds, not even a year married. And she's expecting. The baron's heir will be posthumous.

Exhaustion overwhelms.
