Relationship Note on Agatha

When I think stealth and discretion, yours is the first name that comes to my mind, Princess Agatha. I'm pleased you've confirmed my best guess.

Relationship Note on Niklas

Neither you nor Lady Vanora -- don't think I didn't see that -- have charmed me yet. Keep trying, though. I applaud the effort. I especially applaud it if, in your efforts to charm me, you suddenly find yourself with a permanent wont for silence, Lord Niklas.

Relationship Note on Niklas

You're going to Stormwall with me. If you keep your mouth shut on the way up there, I promise your chances for survival will miraculously improve.

Yes, that was a joke, Scholar. No, I'm not putting in any indication that it was. Lord Kennex knows it's a joke, and the rest of them shouldn't be reading this anyway.

Relationship Note on Niklas

Challenge him, /Lord/ Niklas Kennex. I'd like to see what happens.

Legate, alas. Art is not in my wheelhouse, and I've never claimed it to be.

The Legate's decision's been made;
his opinion won't likely be swayed.
So I guess I'll return
to my more measured burns,
no more in religion to wade.

Relationship Note on Orazio

There once was a man from Saik Greens
who near drowned in paperwork and e'en
though he served just a Tetrad,
professed he'd been had
when all of his stacks of paper were seen.

When asking one sworn of the Gods,
you don't have to even the odds.
Any Godsworn will do:
if the question's big, then try two.
Just make sure you don't make a God Squad.

... I don't believe I'm getting that money, Legate.

I hope you'll have drinks, and very strong ones at that. I get the sense I'll need them to get through such a dinner.

Relationship Note on Sabella

Go on; describe it. Force yourself.

Also, your match with Lord Niklas is a good one, and I approve, for what my thoughts are worth. Primarily, it means no one else will have to endure chatter from either of you on an ongoing basis. You can just talk at each other and see if the other one ever stops talking to listen.

So, do you apparently love everyone? I'm not quite sure.

Relationship Note on Sabella

How is it possible your ears can ring from the sound of someone chattering too much after reading a journal entry in silence? I don't know how, but apparently it is.

Relationship Note on Luca

'How to hold your liquor' was going to be my next suggestion.

Since you offered a drink: I've discovered something of a liking for Setarco Fire. Perhaps liking isn't the right word. An appreciation of its challenge, let's say. It holds less of one than Foolsbane, of course, but the immediate risk is no less grave of feeling, even if it's only a theoretical rather than a realistic one.

I hesitate to ask, Your Highness, but in what capacity are they students of yours? So many possibilities to be named.

I suppose I can grind out a pun or two, so long as I'm not roasted for it. I haven't bean in the past.

I have received a gift of gloves. Please send more gloves. I like gloves.

To the sweet treats rivals, you may continue as previous with sending me baked goods. There has been a lapse in your deliveries. Today seems a fine day to restart that rivalry between the two of you. Let's make it happen.

Words like blades, per Her Highness? We should meet. I wonder what you would call a spar of words. Whatever it is, I'll challenge you to it. Do come prepared. I'd hate to fight the unready.

Relationship Note on Mae

Mistress Culler: that same example, of the man stealing bread (to feed his family, and so forth; you know the cliche) was the one we discussed. I said that justice would have that man fed, whereas the law might not, and might see him arrested. In my mind, justice -- the ideal of it under the Sentinel -- never changes. Our application of it in law does.

The Templar saw the application of it as ever-changing, because we all see justice differently, and in that perception lay the changes. It was an interesting conversation, but I think justice, real justice, whatever you might term it, does not depend on a person's perception, now that I am writing this in my Whites (it was a brief meeting, and we did not get so far in the discussion). If you'll forgive me for saying so, I think that the Legate has it right, wherein justice is a fixed point, and one's perception needs to evolve, not the concept itself.

Still, an interesting discussion, I'll admit, and worth thought, certainly more so than many I've had recently.

Justice: always changing or never changing?

It's part of a conversation I had today with a Templar. The knight takes the former tack; I, the latter. I said that, while the law might change, as we firm up what is right versus what is wrong, the just result itself -- the fair thing to do -- never does, and stands outside (if generally within) the law.

Relationship Note on Cassius

We should talk about the opportunities of different upbringings sometime, Duke Cassius. I may not be able to stitch a fine tapestry, or dance while leaping about like a deer, but I do think that we commoners have many opportunities as well. We need only look for them and be attentive to them when they arrive. That, I think, is the difference; they are not thrust in our laps as they are the nobles'. But opportunities are still there, many and varied.

What opportunities do you imagine to be uniquely aristocratic?
