Relationship Note on Valencia

I thank Princess Valencia and all the staff of the Golden Hart for organizing and executing the Sip and Spar on behalf of the Lodge of Petrichor. Princess Valencia put together the event at my request, and I could not be happier as to how it turned out.

As I stated at the beginning, the resources contributed to the Lodge's cause are just as crucial as strong sword arms and clever scouts. To all those who took part: You do service to the Compact.

Thank you.

Relationship Note on Brigida

The Faith, of course, takes oaths to both the gods and the Crown, and that is all I meant to refer to in my journal.

But you are right that the King's Own and the Faith are very different organizations, despite their similarities in that members of both swear to take no other competing obligations. I was far-less precise than I could be, and I thank you for the correction.

It appears that we are writing about siblings now. I tend to stay away from the trends that seem to capture the white journals from time to time, but this is a topic on which I am proud to write.

My brothers and I have all dedicated ourselves to the service of the Crown. My eldest, Blessed Etienne, is the archlector of Gild. And my slightly older, Sir Tovell, serves alongside me in the Silver Swords.

My service to the Telmarch is one of the happiest chapters in my life. But my service to King and Compact is where I -- and my brothers -- have truly found our purpose.

Relationship Note on Valencia

I echo Princess Valencia's excitement at the upcoming Sip and Spar. It was quite generous of her and the Golden Hart to dedicate the next iteration of this event to raising resources and other funds for the Lodge of Petrichor. As much as strong sword arms, we require the materials to prepare the defenses and weaken our enemy.

With a successful event, we will be even further along in our preparations.

Relationship Note on Laric

"As Arx endures, we will remember."

That is the solemn promise that each Knight of Solace makes. To remember the sacrifice that Silver made for us. She and her Guard fought day and night, knowing what it would cost them, so that the refugees, the children, the injured, and the noncombatants might live. It is even written that almost all of the Compact can trace its lineage to those that Silver saved.

I at first wrote to take umbrage at the Master of Questions' statement about forgetting. But the truth is the legacy of Silver had faded.

Together, the King's Own and Knights of Solace are rectifying that. Through sharing her sacrifice. Through research. Through embodying her belief. that every soul is unique and possessed of intristic worth.

We will remember.

Relationship Note on Fianna

I have written here several times about Rosie, the roan warhorse, my trusty steed. She most-recently led me to victory in the joust held in memory of Prince Barric.

I suppose, then, that I ought to write here a note of gratitude to the excellent horse rider that led me to Rosie. Lady Fianna Crovane is a fine judge of horses as anyone, picking Rosie perfectly for my needs and training her for me so we rode together from the first like it had been months together.

I am thankful for her skill and friendship and for the opportunities we have to ride together. I know she will use these same skills well in defense of the Lodge and the pasturage near it.

Relationship Note on Barric

I was delighted to joust in memory of Prince Barric Grayson last evening, and even more humbled to ride away with the overall victory in the event. Most credit is due to Rosie, my fine roan warhorse, who truly put in an impressive performance on the second round that propelled us to victory.

I did not know Prince Barric and I will not attempt to record a memory here that would suggest otherwise. But I can hope he would smile upon the games and feats of arms and honor held in his memory.

I am delighted to see so many Houses and organizations coming together to organize the defense of the Lodge against the coming darkness. Our task will not be easy. Nor will it be a matter of great armies clashing against one another. But with dedication, and creativity, and sacrifice, I have no doubt that we will succeed.

This is not a task solely for warriors, either. We will need scholars and explorers and those skilled in stealth and daggers. We will also need materials. Many, many rare materials. Those skilled in finances and mercantile matters can make just as much difference to the effort as those strong with sword and shield - if not moreso. Whisper Selene may be in touch to speak to your House regarding what contribution you can make. And I will be speaking to Minister Rook of the Silver Consortium on the matter as well.

May the gods bless us all in these endeavors.

Relationship Note on Felicia

I could not be happier about Dame Felicia's promotion to the officer corps of the King's Own. She has acquitted herself well in recent expeditions, and has richly earned the rank of Knight Lieutenant.

Welcome, Knight Lieutenant Felicia. There is a good deal of paperwork to be done. But I am sure you will strike it down as well as you do the enemies of the Compact.

Relationship Note on Gerard

It is in the finest traditions to make others' happy news all about yourself, and so it is with the announcement of Sir Gerard and Dame Ida's betrothal.

Sir Gerard, I will record, taught me the basics of swordsmanship, the very fundamentals that I carry with me to this day. Dame Ida, meanwhile, crafted both my rubicund blade that I train with each and every day, as well as the lance I carry into tournament and battle on behalf of the King and Compact.

I am tremendously fond of them both. They both have played a formative role in my life. And I wish them all the happiness together now and in the future.

The Bladesong is a credit to her family and fealty. After her impressive skills in combat, she now bested the entire field in the Joust.

All of Gloria's honor to you, my friend.

By the Lord Commander's decree, all knights of the Hundred must have a hobby. Something that, although it has no connection to their work for the King, they do to clear the mind or for enjoyment.

I did not have a hobby previously. But I do now. I have some charcoals and some drawing paper, and Baroness Skye has taught me the basics of sketching and other techniques. And so I present below my first drawing.

It is relaxing.

(( The scene to the discerning viewer is the gardens of the Grotto. Sir Corban has opted to take in some of the flowers, yes, but it is not the focus. Instead, some vines in a corner that are twined around one another appear to have caught his eye. The drawing is done well enough, but amateurishly, with an undue focus on technical aspects rather than capturing the essence of the scene. ))

Relationship Note on Ida

People write here often of Dame Ida Ferron's prodigious talents at the forge. And I can tell you that all the stories are true.

Dame Ida forged my first blade after I came to Arx, a rubicund longsword evoking the Telmarch that I still use to train and spar. Now that I have learned the ways of riding and the joust, I commissioned Dame Ida to forge me a rubicund lance to use in those endeavors.

It is absolutely gorgeous, evoking my current role with the King's Own as a Knight Lieutenant. It is quite fair to say that Dame Ida's weapons have followed me at each station of my life. And I am thankful for it.

Relationship Note on Kael

Although my duties to the Queen prevented me from being there in person, I cannot help but extend by warmest congratulations to Marquis Kael and Marquessa Reigna Keaton. Their work on behalf of Oakhaven has been nothing short of extraordinary. Although they were not Telmar's vassals, even from afar I could see all the work they had done on behalf of their people to grow, prosper, and secure the futures of all of their citizens.

There are few more-worthy of the honor bestowed upon the Keatons at the Assembly of Peers. May Oakhaven March long prosper.

Relationship Note on Leona

As we welcome Lord Commander Eleanor to her new role, let me also spare a word for our immediate past Lord Commander, Dame Leona.

Leona has been a friend and a confidant since shortly after I came to the Capital. She has taught me much about the ways of the knight and of honor, even correcting me when I have strayed from those virtues. She accepted me into the Silver Swords after once refusing her. And she has continued to teach me more about the world and myself as a knight in her service.

Even as you go on to new duties, Dame Leona, know that our friendship remains fast. I stand ready to give you any assistance you may require. And I look forward to our continued conversations.

Relationship Note on Eleanor

I could not be happier for (or prouder of) our new Lord Commander, Eleanor Allenatore. To say that she has been training for this role all of her adult life is an understatement. A squire to the King's Own since the age of 14, she has the spirit of a knight within her.

She will lead the Hundred to new great things. She walks the path of heroes, of the greatest knights of all of Arvum. I am proud to serve her, the King, and the Compact.

Relationship Note on Coraline

Princess Coraline, let me offer you my congratulations on extending patronage to Armorsmith Eithne.

Armorsmith Eithne crafted my armor of the red wall that served me so well -- in the Gray Forest, at Setarco -- before I traded it in for the silver and gray of the King's Own. I was fortunate to have her craftsmanship protect me. I am certain you will have an equally wonderful experience.

Relationship Note on Eleanor

The First Captain stunned me today by announcing my promotion to Knight-Lieutenant. This is an honor beyond words.

The faith that the Lord Commander and First Captain have shown in me is humbling. I only hope that I may repay by my deeds in service to the Crown and Compact.

Now I must get to these patrol schedules. The First Captain did warn it was a lot of paperwork.

Relationship Note on Kael

Count Kael and Whisper Natalia are to be greatly praised for their work preparing the Academy of War. They continue a grand tradition of teaching the martial arts (and its allied disciplines) that stretches back all the way to the great shining City of Caer'alfar.

I wish them all success in their efforts. And I look forward to adding my knowledge, to the extent I am able, as an instructor.

I am delighted that my two-volume work, "On Chivalry," is now available at the Academy's reading room in the cultural section.

In the first volume, I discuss the theoretical underpinnings of chivalry and the knightly virtues. In the second, I offer practical advice for one wishing to follow the knight's path.

For the work, I interviewed one knight of every Great House and order represented in Arx. I am thankful to Sir Jeffeth Bayweather, Dame Eleanor Allenatore, Sir Preston Godsworn, Dame Esoka Greenblood, Sir Austen Ferron, Dame Leola Allenatore, Sir Perrach Seiler, Sir Matthew Sotatingly, Dame Morrighan, and Sir Norwood Clement. I am also grateful for Lord Commander Leona Thrax's teachings as I try to walk the path of chivalry myself.

I welcome others to read and to share their thoughts.
