My muse
is it the silvery light of the moon?
is it the sweeping waves across the sand
hand in hand, gently pulling, gently moving, as only it can?
is it the touch of skin, the shining light?
is it the darkness, holding you tight?

Is it high?
or is it low?
is it the wise old tree
stuck in the undertow.

I have officially been to my first masquerade for the Eclipse of Mirrors - a curious thing to say the least. Many thanks to Professor Orick for the kindness of the gift of a mask for my part in the fundraiser for the college, as it was breathtaking to say the least.

I'm left a little bit shaken, however, with my encounter with the mirror masked one in the role of Tehom. I know not what to make of his blessing to me - save that it seems very much timely and something that should weigh on my mind with the dark days yet to come. Perhaps I'll ask Graziella and Lucrezia what they think of the matter, Graziella for her unique insight into matters as such, and Lucrezia as I should hate to lead her astray when she's shown trust in me as tactician...

I hear people actually celebrate during this blood moon. My question. WHY?! Why do you do this?! This is an honest question, I swear!

I attended my first Mirror Masquerade since coming to Arx and it certainly did not disappoint. A huge affair, unsurprisingly, the outfits and masks on display were as much a feast for the eyes as the drinks were to the palate. To the person in the silver scaled lady's mask, thank you for plucking me from the crowds to make conversation. It helped make it a truly delightful evening. I did not brave more than a few passing glances at the mirrors, and am yet undecided if I regret that or not. Still, it was a lovely evening and I am grateful duties allowed me to finally attend one. I am already considering what sort of theme to have next year's ensemble be inspired by.

Scholar, thanks to your help, I now know that the thing I came in here curious about is the name of a boat. And I know whose boat. Though, I feel I am no closer to having my curiosity satisfied.

I am fairly confident that it won't be the boat that carries me to Sangris. Yes, Scholar and Reader, in just a few days I will be heading to the Saffron Chain. I'm excited to learn more about a place that has thoroughly captured many imaginations here in the city. Baroness Calla Vaevici has said her home is surrounded by blood red stone. It sounds unbelievable! I'll give you a proper description when I return.

In other news, the final pieces of my armor have been delivered and I have joined the ranks of the Physicians in preparation for the coming threats. It would be quite the boon to someday say I overprepared, but I would accept having prepared precisely enough.

I don't know if it was a fortelling, but as it happens: you were right. There are other folk who need attention.

I remain every bit as proud.

It is official. I can no longer see my toes. Little Ivy asked me if I swallowed a whale. So, I lied and said: Yes!

She now thinks I am the bravest Mommy ever, because I can eat whales whole. I might have drowned my sorrows in an entire pot of tea and pineapple cakes afterwards.

I miss seeing my toes, and if I don't stop tripping over my feet soon I might have to figure out a new way to get around. I am so over bedrest.

I have never been more disturbed or more intrigued and entertained in my entire life. My first mirror masquerade attended in the gracious auspices of House Velenosa, and I can honestly say it was a night I will never forget as long as I live. And perhaps the most troubling part of all? Was finding out that the man I intend to marry can dance better than I.

A thank you specifically to the Pravus family for the delightful dunk a Pravus event, and the lovely beanbag toss game that was sent to participants. I shall make sure to bring this little delight to the next Igniseri family dinner.

Have you ever accomplished a thing you cannot brag about, Scholar?

It is a strange feeling, secret success.... and, though I often prefer to go unnoticed by the masses, there is some joy in allowing one's self the spotlight for a single night.

I may have even earned a new friend, I do love the holidays.

I've seen heroism from a great many people and not always in battle, as was the understandable focus of the stories told at the Valardin dinner. I just wasn't able to select one tale alone which was the 'best' or most heroic to recount.

The courage my friends and allies routinely display in the most dire of situations never fails to impress and inspire me. Your incredible valor is remembered and appreciated, even if it's not constantly boasted about.

Every time I return to my rooms in Whisper House I am reminded that I need to find my way to a tailor. I have seasilk gifted from a wonderful person and I need to ensure I dazzle them with what it has become. Luckily I have an idea in mind and just need to get the proper artisan to make the pieces. And with the weather warming, it will even be easier to wear.

Seasons have passed like waves upon the shore,
Swallowed up in graves, lonely and unmarked -
Like humanity's lost, forgotten lore,
Which once flourished, but now is cold and stark.

Will my wife and son and daughters beloved,
Remember after such a yawning span
The one who lived for their familiar touch,
Or prefer the memory to the man?

And does my dear friend still wander the streets
Of the Lowers to administer well
Stern care to those in the most dire need,
Or found some other cause in which to dwell?

Golden Reese! Princess high, and brilliant knight!
Do you still slay foes of gods divine,
Training those who seek potent wisdom bright,
And etch your deeds upon the Scrolls of Time?

One of these questions, though, I needn't speak,
For ev'n in coldest reaches of the North
Spirits of Nature hold in great esteem
Th' Spirit Walkers' Elder and Halfshav Lord.

Yet when I approach my cousin's estate
In the Redrain Ward, and embrace my wife,
Doubts, like Reese's foes, quickly dissipate
And darksome clouds disperse to rays of light.
