This is not entirely so, Sir Ober. There is always the Rite to Gloria, to be considered, though it is entirely a different matter than fighting to first blood, as is the usual for an honor duel. I quite like these rites, when performed, though it has been some time I have been in one.

I am putting this here in my journal to get the word out, because as I understand it, the archives are on fire (too soon?) these last days, and I am sure that people flock to my entries to see what interesting things I have to say as regarding the important problems of the city.
So my announcement is this: If you are challenged to a duel, or are issuing challenge for a duel, and your opponent chooses someone who is not a member of the esteemed Champion's guild, I will gladly fight on your behalf and I will do so without* asking the fee I have been known to ask for - which can be a steep thing for those who have never commissioned me to work my art for them - and we will see the matter settled.
Never let it be said that I do not value this guild I have been a part of for so long now.
That is all.
* - so long as you are not being a menace and/or word has not gotten back to me that you have been talking shit about me. I know who you are.

Today, I just want to write a little bit about Talen, in this journal of mine.
Absolutely, these are thoughts that should be recorded for Vellichor, and for all who would read them.
Lately I have had a lot of time to reflect upon my relationships - my relationship to him - especially.
Every time I visit with the man, I feel as if I come away better for it. Not just because of the haze, mind you.
Now, this isn't to say that he won't also stir you a little fucking crazy at the same time. Balance in everything.
Such is the nature of the southern people, I suspect. But also, speaking of Talen, and the nature of the Lycene..
Under no circumstances should anyone believe I was paid to write any of these kind things about the man.
Choice is a powerful thing (HI ALEKSEI) and sometimes you should just choose to honor your friendships, visibly.
Kan you believe I'm even sober for this wonderful contribution to the archives? Mostly sober counts, you know.

Just to quibble with you here, you cheeky minx, some context /does/ deserve to be added to your point. I arrived to my duel in a bedsheet because I fell asleep, then woke up drunk, and realized I was going to be late for my duel. I can't remember what honor I was defending. Someone important, I'm sure.
Later, when I did remove the bedsheet, it wasn't to shock the audience. It was because Caspian Wild is a damn fast fighter and I needed to practically cheat to throw him off his balance. I think we both learned an important lesson from the maneuver. The lesson is, don't fight me while I'm on the cusp of a hangover.
The point is, the bedsheet and the removal of it were only part of the show by necessity, even if it made for some entertainment on the part of the crowd.
So there /is/ a difference. And this isn't to say I, in any way, disapprove of this latest duel or the shenanigans. I love shenanigans. But, since my cock has been dragged into the whites, I thought I would drag it a little further in defense of itself and its showmanship-like qualities.

A wonderful duel, yesterday. I'm always happy to see members of the Champions Guild finding work, and experimenting with new, interesting forms of showmanship.
Jeffeth lost his shirt, Bliss lost some blood, Eirene lost her temper and Saoirse lost probably everything within ten feet of her, save for the duel itself! So, at least the whole affair was rooted in undertones of familiarity!
I look forward to seeing what the guild brews up next. I always do.
