Relationship Note on Leona
My cousin Leona. We've had a strange relationship to say the least. Definitely not an all-around pleasant one and certainly not what I would call 'love', but maybe 'Thraxian' would be a better word. If you could even describe something so fucking vaguely.
I still can't say I'd have done the same thing in her position. I was angry when I heard too. But now I look at her and I just think of all the time wasted on hate that could've been better spent on getting fucking smashed on rum and dance like good men and women of the sea should do. She's hardly a stone's throw from an Isle's lady, but she's my blood and she can swing a sword with the best of them. For a people like us known as conquerors and warmongers, having someone of our ilk protecting the King does still give me a good laugh. I mean that in a good way so make sure you write it all cute and shit, scribe.
So, thank you, Cousin. For the laughs and not giving up on your family after the mess uncle made. Out of my favorite cousins, you're in the top ten.

The Lord Commander of the King's Own. She is a bit of a realist, and will speak her mind, but I think those are nice qualities to have in these times. She's quite set to her duties as well!

Relationship Note on Leona
Leona is an interesting person - she holds high position as Lord Commander of the King's Own, but she also does not seem egotistical or precious of this. She also hungers for that simplicity that Preston desires, even if they disagree. She is someone Preston feels he can work with, and he values her wisdom - at times perhaps more than he even values the wisdom of some in the faith.

She called me complicated.
I suppose I can't argue.
I don't like trusting people, I never trust it but I suppose there's something there that comes close enough. She's a fascinating woman, I feel like a child sometimes when I'm with her as I want her to tell her story again and again and again. Perhaps I'll do us both a favor and put it to quill and paper.

Dame Leona Thrax, the Lord Commander of the King's Own. She seems an honorable and capable woman, every bit what Rainier's described her as in the past.
But gods and spirits, she's a demon when it comes to training!
Running an obstacle course backwards while defending oneself... it's actually practical, gods know. I've been forced to move backwards on uneven terrain by something attacking me more than once in the field. But running the obstacle course once, doing the attacking-along-it twice, and then running the course a fourth time... I know I've been behind a desk at the Society too long, but every joint aches.
It's a good ache, mind you, but an ache nonetheless. (In contrast, I don't think she even broke a sweat. And that backflip was really just excessive.)
But she invited me back to train more. I have a feeling that's only the beginning of what she could -- and would -- put me through. Still, it can only help my performance in the field when I get out there and /explore/ properly again, so perhaps I'll take her up on it.

Relationship Note on Leona
I've been patching up the Lord Commander since she was a kid. She's the little niece I never thought I'd want. She's grown into a fine leader, I'll give you that and Dayne made the right choice with her. She's even actually sleeping, unless of course, the little brat, I mean, our illustrious leader happens to be lying to me. Which is quite possible if she's avoiding telling me of her lack of sleep so I don't nag her or tie her bandages extra tight the next time I patch her up. If Dayne could see her now? He would be mighty proud of her.

There is a strength about his woman and I like it. I also like the fact that she works around my brother, Rymarr. I very much look forward to meeting with her in the future, passing back and forth ideas, and perhaps even coaxing her to relinquish some of her knowledge to me.

The former Lord Commander reminds me of her brother in no way at all but they are extremely similar as well; it's one of those mysteries that seem to just occur. She is loyal and steadfast, knowledgeable of the world we live in yet understands how duty can change it anyway.
This is a fact; everything we are surrounded by is fluid. People change or die, allegiances shift, friends become foes and war is a battering ram on all we know and care for. Nothing sticks, nothing stays.
But in spite of it, despite of it, there is an immutability in having a focal point to revolve around. Lady Leona Thrax has found hers, and many of the King's Guard have as well in the likes of her.
This is a fact; everything we are surrounded by is fluid. People change or die, allegiances shift, friends become foes and war is a battering ram on all we know and care for. Nothing sticks, nothing stays.
But in spite of it, despite of it, there is an immutability in having a focal point to revolve around. Lady Leona Thrax has found hers, and many of the King's Guard have as well in the likes of her.

Leona Thrax has long been unwelcome in my family. She made a choice once to defy my Lord Uncle, the Prince of Maelstrom, and there are and have been consequences to that.
But he has passed, and done is done, and oaths were sworn that cannot be easily broken.
And ultimately I find that I would have had a greater contempt for an oathbreaker cousin than I do a girl who ran off to be a knight and excelled at it.
So while I did not approve of her choice then, and still do not, she is my kin by blood and she is no longer unwelcome as far as I am concerned.

I love my sisters. More than the world. More than all of the ships in the fleet, than the clothes on my back, than all of the drink I could take. More than anything. It wounds me that my family doesn’t feel the same way.
Leona might be a Champion of the King’s Own, but before that she was mine. She was my rock, my protector, and the one who watched out for me when I needed it most. When I was told she saved the future king’s life, I wasn’t even surprised.
But now it’s my chance to be her protector. Life is difficult, and often unfair, and I will do everything I can to make that a little less so for her. She already has enough to worry about.

While I am suprised by this bit of news of you stepping down, I can do nothing but respect and support your decision. It's a braver thing to reflect and be honest with oneself. You are a woman of admirable character and though we have not spoken in some time, I wish you all of the best in your future endeavors.

Lord Commander Leona has a great burden to bear. When I saw her again recently she was pleasant and friendly but I could see that it weighs on her. I understand how that feels. My uncle cast a long shadow and his loss feels as if it is impossible to fill. But my uncle was more than just the greatest knight of his age. He was also one of the wisest. He believed in her to succeed him, and because of this, so do I.

She can't shoot a bow. It's understandable, her role being what it is amongst the King's Own, but still, it's useful to know. I was priviledged enough to give her a short lesson in archery, and she's asked to continue her lessons at times with me.

Relationship Note on Leona
My twin. The only other person that I should be able to share everything in the world with. The only person that should understand. We are so different, people don't even believe me when I tell them she is my sister, let alone my twin. She and I went down two different paths, starting from an early age. My weapon of choice was my personality and her's was a sword, and in doing so, we learned to survive.
