Relationship Note on Sparte

Officer Sparte,

It's been a damn sight of years since I've been kicked around a training ground like you've been doing this week. I wasn't sure what to make of the 'bring a sack of potatoes' at first, but now I'm painfully aware of how they are both good for training and good for grub. I've got to say I appreciate the time you've offered me from You and Your Men. The Guardsmen are a good group of Lads, and I can't wait to keep working with them.

Whiskey on me when you've got the time.

Relationship Note on Sigurd

Sigurd!

Damn glad to see you back in the City, Nephew. I've got to say that you've picked up right where you left off, and a night of drinking is exactly how I wanted to spend your first day back. We've got many more Taverns to see, and people to meet ... likely trouble to cause, but hopefully not too much for Lydia.

You know if you need anything from me I'll be there straight away. You, Lydia, and Mydas carry much on your shoulders, but you don't need to do it between the three of you. Plenty of us are ready and willing to help. Don't be stubborn... at least this way.

Relationship Note on Lydia

Nothing brings the feeling of being home like being around Family. Despite all the duties she has to attend to as the Duchess, my wonderful niece came out to spend an evening drinking, and telling tall tale (mostly my own) with a number of the Nightgold.

I can see the weight of her responsibility, but she is not bowed by it in the slightest, and I'll be damned if I let her hold all of this on her own. I'll be there whenever she calls, and help her however I can as it is the very least I can do. She is an amazing woman, proud to call her my Duchess, but even more so to call her my Niece.

There's much going on in the World, and I'm only now beginning to appreciate all that I do not know...

War is present and looming. Houses are fighting amongst each other. There's human conflict everywhere, but that's not the worst of it.

There's a darkness out there, one that's seeping in where we're not looking, and the more I start to understand the worse it looks from where I'm standing. I may not have done much up to this point, but I'll be damned if I stand by while this darkness threatens the ones I love. Time for me to stop focusing on the parties, and to take responsibility.

Relationship Note on Mydas

Nephew, it's been a long time that I woke up in the state I did this morning, and to think I've got you to thank. Although, as always, you gave some good advice.. and like always I ignored it. Maybe, hmm probably not, but hopefully some day your brains will out vote my pride.

Our Lives have taken interesting twists to bring us to where we are, and we share more in common now than when last we spoke. Know that I will always be here when you need. The Spirits bless us, but they expect us to make the most with what we've been given. You, Mydas, will change the world... I have no doubt.

Relationship Note on Derovai

By the Spirits... I'm damn sure it tastes like I drank some fermented bear guts after a bout of the shites. My head feels like it was kicked several times by a draft horse, and decided to wear anvils for shoes. Still, enjoyed every cursed minute of it, and looking forward to the next time... with something a bit more pleasant on the tongue.

Had a damn fine tussle with one of the King's Own the other day. She hits like a ton of bricks, and it's a good thing I'm used to taking a beating or I might have had to roll outta the ring. Not a bad drinker either, but when whiskey is on the line I can't risk that I might be paying for it. Pretty sure I left that little roll in the dirt with a few bruised ribs, but I did get my drinks paid for... totally worth it.

Had the chance to meet Dame Greenblood and Sir Sandreef as well. Good people, solid knights, and damn if Greenblood isn't strong as an Ox. I'm hoping I get the chance to see them again, and maybe do a bit of their strength training. Being in these lowlands are going to make me soft, feel so bloody winded when I go back to visit, and I'll be damned if that happens again.

Relationship Note on Darren

Well, I'm sure I can find another two skins of whiskey any time you want to go traipsing about the mountains. Never know what we'll find, but I'm sure the Land will talk to us, and the Mountains will remind us why we're Northmen.

Relationship Note on Felicia

First day back in Arx, and I'm reminded why it isn't so bad. Found my way to the Golden Hart, and their amazing playground called the Arena. Some decent amount of mead and whiskey found me going for a tussle, and had a bit of fun.

Ended up meeting one of the King's Own that goes by the name Felicia. Not too rowdy, full of spirit though, and damn good at handling her whiskey. Damn retainer pulled me away before we could go a few rounds, but she's on the short list next time I find her.

Before leaving I also met Caspian Wild. Seems like a good lad, might have to let him cut me up a bit after I learn him a bit of dirty fighting.

Only a couple bloody months and I feel like a new man again. The brisk air, filled with the scent of Pine and Fir, with enough chill to get the blood pumping. The Sun rising over the land, the promise of a new day with new challenges, and shining off the lakes in a way that you don't see in the choked streets of the City. The creatures sharing, living, killing in the cycle of life that few can appreciate until they are a part of it. By the Spirits, I Love this Land.

The last night I watched the starry sky, the last bit of whiskey starting a fire in my belly to match the one in my camp, and I was paid a visit by the local pack. Golden eyes glared at me from the trees, my own returning a gaze of feral readiness, hoping both for the coming conflict and that they are smart enough to leave a meaner predator alone. The big dark alpha and I stared at each other for a moment, Blood and Pain in our past, but neither willing to roll over with our stomach's bared to the World. There was a low rumble, maybe from him or my own, but the eyes disappeared into the night without any trouble.

"Well, Lads, guess that's my sign to move on. World waits for no Man or Beast, and I've got Taverns to Toss and friends to see."

She is dead. I see her body in the main hall, and the walls of our estate are draped in black, and she is dead.

My niece is dead. My wife is dead. My child is dead.

Still, I will drink. Still, I will fight. Still, I will screw.

Tomorrow I may be dead as well.

The spirits are fickle.

The world's gone a bit mad of late, by all accounts. All the more reason to drink deep, and enjoy the present, rather than fear the future.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

You don't often meet a knighted man who's sword stays sheathed when insult is offered, much less one as seemingly accustomed to throwing fists instead of flowery prose. I shall have to find some work for the man.

My niece has far too fine a taste in drinking establishments. Not a single man looked like they'd be able to withstand a punch without pulling steel and making it a whole 'big deal'.

However, seeing this saloon has given me a new way to spend my time in Arx- I shall see every drinking establishment the city has to offer, and I shall drink deeply in each one. From there, I shall have a true understanding of the city and its folk. For, the soul of a people is most true where the spirits are strongest.
