I do not think someone has to be dead to be a hero. Some of those I look up to as heroes, Princess Marian, Prince Edain, Princess Alarissa, are heroes in part because they are alive. Because they survived what seemed to be insurmountable odds. And they kept living. It matters not to me whether others consider them a hero though, and perhaps that is the key.
Everyone has a different standard, and different criteria for who they personally consider a hero. But usually? A capital H Hero seems to be someone who people from every fealty and every walk of life revere because of their actions. And that only becomes commonly known when they die. I like what Dame Thena has said as well. We'll never know most everyday heroes, because their work goes unnoticed and unrecognized. But without them, life would most assuredly be less.

Quite an amazing duel of words and fortitude. Champion and Softest Whisper Bliss has a lyrical ability that frankly leaves me envious. And my own Champion for the duel Prince Luca posesses a stamina for drinking liquor I can only aspire to. As I am certain those at the table with me yesterday will attest. And while I am sad to hear that Prince Luca will no longer be accepting challenges, I am humbled that he chose to agree to represent me for one last duel.
Sir Thorley and Princess Sorrel were kind enough to provide me with some of the finest liquor the Oathlands has to offer, so that I may gift both the Champions and Marquis Mazetti with something to hopefully show that even should our wine not be to their palette's, perhaps one of our other spirits is! An aged Wyrmguard Scotch, and a new coffee infused liquor from Westrock; what coffee lover could resist that?
Marquis Hadrian Mazetti played along gallantly, accepting my challenge to uphold the dignity of our vintner's, while recognizing that fealty pride did not equate to anger. I would be most pleased to work with him again to put together any event which can bring together people from both of our fealties and families for celebration of the best each has to offer. And Marquessa Cambria was a delight to finally meet.
Also, thank you lovely cousin Isabeau for helping me walk home. I can only say I am glad to remember the entire event

That was a very touching sermon, Archlector. And I sincerely hope that everyone took the time to not just read it, but really let it sink in. The vast majority of us have lost someone we love in the past few years. And I expect we have all felt guilt, and rage, and sorrow. I hope it helps others, as it helps me, to know that none are alone in these feelings.
I don’t think those feelings ever truly disappear, but they fade with time with thanks to Lagoma’s loving embrace. Through Jayus, we may see our lost loved ones in our dreams. And perhaps capture their image or essence through creative expression so we may always be reminded of the best parts of their lives.

I clearly remember the first time we met. A large meeting of of the military minded in Arx; and our thoughts were exactly enough on the same wavelength that we often nodded along with each other's statements.
And I remember the delivery a really large turkey, that I made sure to drag ALL BY MYSELF to the kitchens, just so I could tell you that I did it myself. So there!
I remember that you called me Pipsqueak and I knew it was meant with affection rather than malice or mockery.
I remember that we looked forward to a day when we might be on the battlefield at the same time and could try some outrageously crazy tactics (before Fia and Edain could object, obviously!)
I remember you and Calypso being there for my wedding to Fiachra.
I remember the ridiculous red toque that you gave me as a wedding present so that if Fia and I went North for a holiday he wouldn't lose me in the snow.
I remember you doing stupid things, but you were never dishonest about it and you accepted your lumps when you got them.

I have tried to take several days, so I can reasonably address those who might think the decision made against Aurelian was easy.
But, my temper does not easily cool when it comes to this matter. Any who think it was an -easy- decision, can take a long walk off a short pier. He was family for twenty years, so you can just go screw yourself if you think it was a decision taken at all lightly. You know nothing about my brother if you think he would take any matter of this magnitude and come to any decision easily.
I thank the rest of you for your compassion. I cannot bring myself to speak of my fond memories, because they were false. A cover, a ruse, a way to hide what was truly there.
