Relationship Note on Corban

Monique's husband. We have only spoken briefly. He told me a story about Cairn Valardin, and the manner in which he told it leads me to believe Lord Corban is a deep thinker. An admirable trait, I believe.

Relationship Note on Corban

Lord Corban is always a genteel, educated, and honorable conversational partner. It is a pleasure to speak with him, even when we don't agree.

Although he has, perhaps, been spending too much time around Lycene nobility - I expect an Oathlands noble to blush when saying some things to a priest's face.

Relationship Note on Corban

I reached out recently to see if there was anyone interested in cross training their soldiers with my own. I'm glad to say that I heard almost immediately from Lord Corban Telmar. It's been fascinating to watch some of the drills, seeing how each group learns from each other and takes something away new. And I hope that it strengthens the bonds between the Laurent soldiers and those of the Telmarch. We're going to need that kind of unity in the days to come.

I'm not mad. I'm just very disappointed.

Consider my questions.

For honor's sake, I hope you find an answer.

No more black journal entries about it, Scholar!

I've won the wedding raffle, haven't I?

You've all heard the song. It's true. Every last word.

Relationship Note on Corban

In running the Gauntlet and our conversation I am reminded of something my mentor said to me repeatedly.

"What good is sharpening the sword if the hand that wields it is weak? And what good is training the hand if the mind that directs it is cloudy? And what good is training the mind if the heart that moves it is cowardly? So take courage and be strong, and all else that follows will be trained in good time, for good purpose."

I enjoy my conversations with Lord Corban greatly, even though I am also constantly reminded of my own training. It's not so much that I see myself in Lord Corban, but that I hear my mentor when I talk to him. The grief never really goes away. It just gets more familiar, like that piece of armor we pull on without noticing because it fits so well and has for so many years. We learn to bear the weight of it, but by every God of the Pantheon some days the loss of Dayne cuts me like a knife.

Did you tell her the story about how you sacrificed limb and dignity for those earrings? Did you? You still owe me at -least- a toe.

No, scholar, I'm not serious. Don't faint.

Relationship Note on Corban

One of the most fantastic things about having friends is that they often share your interests and call you over to learn new and interesting things. Everyone knows one of my favorite things is music, which is why it's absolutely wonderful when Lord Corban stumbles upon a new song in his research and shares it with me. I've learned so much lately.

Relationship Note on Corban

QUOTE: "We have discussed it for some time (including in these pages), and at long last Duke Cristoph, Count Kael, and I have agreed upon the First Annual Armor Run in the Valardin Ward. It is for charity, of course, and there is some talk of pastries, though I am not certain I understand the inside joke. In any event, it should all be in good fun. Come cheer me on if it is in your nature."

I read this as 'It is for Chastity, of course.' and I thought, 'Well of COURSE it is.' And then I read Pastries and thought pasties.

I guess this shows you the difference between a Lycene mind and... anyone else.

This lord of the Telmarch is capable. Impressive.

I've not been brought so close to my knees by a single human for a long time. I was tested, to the point of exhaustion, to my very limits.

I'm going to endeavor to break them - I have not done enough.

Lord Corban Telmar,

While I certainly will be joining this society that my Liege-Lord is starting (Duke Cristoph Laurent, why have you not shared such news with me and I hear of it second hand?), I can assure you that there is a particular fondness when the item cast comes from your wife's hand rather than random denizens of the Valardin ward.

Lord Corban is like the face of House Telmar's helpful navy, ever ready to help. This time, we actually get to work in concert for once, since we don't so much need warships.

Relationship Note on Corban

On a recent foray the good lord of House Telmar provided me a service. He, much to my chagrin, took a blow on my behalf. I had foolishly sprang a counter-ambush on some would-be ambushers and for a brief period of time weathered the assault of a whole group of wild-eyed cultists. While I held out for what I felt was a considerable amount of time, inevitably a lucky blow or two will prevail; and they did. Lord Corban came hurtling into the mix after he and those in the other fight had eliminated their threats.

There were many heroic moments in our patrol, but that one stood out intimately for me. Likely because it involved my own safety and wellbeing.

Relationship Note on Corban

Relationship advice from a relative stranger missed its target.

His question, though, rang of truth and earned truth from me in return. I won't compromise my honor and give him the information he seeks, for some things aren't mine to tell. But I have passed along his interest where we discussed, and that is likely both the least and the most I can do for him right now. Perhaps some other day, when he doesn't have stars in his eyes and hope for an answer to a question he hasn't even figured out how to ask, we'll talk more.

As I told him, he's a little like an adorable puppy right now, which is fine but hard on a conversation.
