Relationship Note on Sparte

That is actually a little bit misleading. While it's true we don't really do our own cooking at home, in the field we cook a good little bit. Especially when with the army on a campaign, or when taking time to be an errant knight.

Of course I can't follow an actual recipe or use an oven properly know what pot I should use in an actual kitchen. That said, if I do say so myself, during the Tor-Southport War when our daily ration was a pound of beef and a pound of flower I learned to make a pretty good 'beefy pudding.'

Of course Valen always claimed it tasted like clammy, moldy feet, but I still think it is more of an indictment of him that he recognizes that taste than it is of my cooking

I went to see the Captain-General as he recovers in the House of Solace. I brought him some sauerkraut soup to aid in his recovery.

I feel bad for whoever injured him so badly, because while I cannot say I know the Captain-General well, I can say that in my limited experience with him, that which does not kill him only makes him angry.

To his attacker, good luck. You will need it.

I think Heroes very much exist. Because Heroes are very flawed, very human. A Hero makes mistakes, does stupid things and regrets them later, makes a fool of themselves, but when they are at their lowest point find the will to do the right thing.

A Hero is not someone that never makes a mistake, a Hero is someone that does their damnedest to fix the mistakes they make. I think it is not that Heroes are rare so much that we sometimes take for granted the ones we see everyday.

Though I was sad to see him leave the family to give his voice the King's Own, I could not be prouder of the work he has done with them. I like to think that somewhere Dayne is smiling that one of the Dragon's that grew up on his legend has decided to follow in his footsteps.

What, pray tell, is "DTF." From the context I wonder if it is perhaps some kind of accreditation or apprenticed training?

At tourney there is a popular cheer.

"Blood makes the grass grow!"

Generally this chant starts either when the crowd is engrossed in an amazing confrontation by two evenly matched opponents, or they are bored by a match where each is far too cautious. At face value it is a grim saying, but I have always chosen to believe it is meant to be a more hopeful chant. That even in the wake of violence and death, something beautiful can grow anew if we are fighting for the right cause. In the past when I have gone into battle, I would say it quietly to myself before the charge. To remind me that life can begin anew once the grim task ahead of us is done.

Also after your third or forth cider while watching a winter's tourney it just gets really fun to keep chanting.

Despite some tensions, the open court went well I think. The candied maple bacon was a big hit. We even have some that visited for the free food. Though I was reading through my sister Tabitha's journal for wisdom, as I often do, and she always spoke of court as a much more colorful experience. Thought this is so very counter to my personal tastes if holding Court at the manor is to something I plan to do more regularly (and I think I should) perhaps I should start reaching out to entertainers and artists, and maybe even the Whisper House. Let song and dance, and art on display, or a writer reading his latest work entertain people that are curious, while I receive those that have business with me more quietly.

Yes I think maybe this can be a good thing and I should probably start reaching out to people that would be interested in displaying their art or their social acumen in such a way.

It makes me feel better to know I am not the only one that has entertained that thought. For what it is worth in the Oathlands we try to label things more accurately as 'rebated' weapons. Injuries can and do happen. A blunted piece of metal can still hurt you very badly.

When accidents happen it is generally because someone is so determined on victory that the throw away restraint during drill. It's a phenomenon we sometimes call 'Going ham.' Named so because when someone becomes so violent in drill they often take on the crazed look that only an Oathlander can have when you are between them and a Winter's Feast Ham.

I do not profess to know how tall my sister's children will be when grown. All I can tell you is this. You better keep working on your lung's Duke, because when they are grown you will be slowing down and they might be able to catch even you when you tease their mother about her height.

I think sometimes we forget the difference between riches and between wealth. Silver coin are riches. Gold candlestick's with lots of fancy gems in them are riches. Your wealth is so much more.

Your wealth is your family that loves you, your allies and friends that stand by you, your land that provides for you as long as you protect it and steward it well. Your wealth is your vassals that will stand with you as long as you protect them and lead them. It is the arts that you patron and the knowledge you preserve.

Someone thought they where very clever by stealing the riches of the Malvici, but they can take all the riches they want and they cannot steal any of the wealth of Southport. I feel like all someone has done is gone and put themselves at the center of focus of some of the brightest and most capable minds in all of the compact. Good luck with that.

The Oathlands stands ready to aid Southport however they need, and personally I look forward to seeing the Malvici do what they do best. Handle things.

Relationship Note on Aureth

I have always believed that the Pantheon is greater than the sum of it's parts, and the greatest strength of the divine is how they work together to make something greater than any single one of them alone. I think Lady Aislin's thought has merit, and it's very possible that the Queen of Endings has sent certain souls back to us at the request of her divine brothers and sisters.

I am truly blessed, gods know that I am. By the time this entry is delivered to the Archives, Princess Caelis and I will be on a ship back to Sanctum. With the concerning uptick in piracy and with them flying the flags of other nations, I am accompanying Princess Caelis so she can do her admiral thing and make certain all our ships are accounted for and that head count we need to ensure no one went rogue and participated in these acts of piracy where ships flew flags of other houses to prey on those bringing aid to the Kennex and Storward. The first meeting of the Assembly of Peers will be convening shortly and so this timing is not ideal, but on top of this there are some important duties that the Princess and I must carry out when we reach the Oathlands.

But as I said I am blessed. I have the best, and wises voices in all of Arvum. Lord Percephon's unparalleled reasons, Duke Arn's uncompromising committeemen to doing what must be done. And then there is my sister Princess Alis and my cousin Princess Isabeau. Both so infinitely smarter than I am they see things that I never would. That shall be sitting for me at the Assembly of Peers, and I and the Princess go to do what we need to do in the Oathlands, I know that there is no one that could represent the Oathlands better before the Assembly.

This is just one man's opinion but I feel like the Gods do not 'choose' anyone. They embody the ideals we need to live up to, and the guide us to what is the just and holy way to live. I think any that seem to have specific favor of the Pantheon have been entrusted with delivering a message, or completing a specific task, or in someway to help guide us back to their path. As long as we stay to their path I believe the Gods love us in equal measure, and that those they have entrusted with some task or message or mission is an extension of their affection for us all, not for just their messenger.

Might I suggest instead of axes, shoes.

They are stout enough to make your point, emphatically even, yet are less likely to cause lasting structural damage.

Just ask my sister, Princess Alis.
