It was /breathtaking/. Every bit of it. The views from the mountain top were some of the best that I have ever seen within my lifetime. It was as though you could see all of Arvum everywhere you looked; and she was magnificent and glorious. The top of the mountain had a plateau, and if one were of mind, and had the means, it would be the perfect place for a griffon rookery, potentially.

We found other things there as well, but for that alone the trip was more than worth it. I'll be making detailed maps at some point, perhaps after I make another trip there. There's a cave yet to be explored, and I feel given what we discovered it is more than worth exploring. But that's for another time.

Oh, and I suppose, in my excitement, I should make ready with some arrangements - just in case - which will also serve me well since I'll be involved in the Lodge after this.

In the untimely event of my death, all of my items and money go to Mason to do with as he sees fit - with a few exceptions.

* My sisters may go through and pick one thing for themselves.
* My weapons should be saved for my daughters and adopted children - to be doled out as they are ready to make use of them.
* I leave the care of the Society of Explorers in the care of Duke Aiden Rubino and Princess Alarissa Thrax - jointly.

Should something happen to both Mason and myself, I deem my children to be under the care of my sisters Reese and Sabella.

Today is the day! I cannot wait until we start our journey. I'll be traveling to the far side of Grayson lands, just beyond where Ashford lies, and then even just a little farther than that to explore a mountain range I've been past several times over, and just never had time to explore. Well, I've finally made time and some of the best companions are coming with me. Mason, Vitalis, Elloise, and Calaudrin will travel with me in this particular journey.

It'll be something new, something exciting, and how can it not be when I know that there is the excitement of of discovering something new over that ridge somewhere. I have been in the city for so long that I'd long since forgotten the call, I think. I cannot wait to breathe the fresh air of wilderness, and to see what new things lie in store.

Adventure Awaits!

The Grayson caravel has been completed, and oh what a beauty she is. The shipwrights put some solid work into her, and she's a good, sturdy, ocean going vessel. She has a deep hull and a wide deck. And on the prow they carved None Greater Than Grayson. She still has yet to be named. We'll need to find a good name for her before her maiden voyage. And, to determine where her maiden voyage will be.

Also, I might need to commandeer her for a time. There are fabled continents to find in Eventide Vast, and I mean to do it some day. Some day has become sooner than later with her existence.

Why did I volunteer? Why? I'm certainly going to hate myself all throughout this process. There will be many trips to many locations in the woods in between, I'm certain of it.

But, the thought of getting so lovely a vessel to sail on, that's more than worth it. There are places to go, things to explore, people to meet. Uncharted territories.

Assuming, of course, they let me. I'm going to drown myself in events and being social, so I'm banking on that.

World, ready or not, I'm coming for you!

The Society of Explorers is open to everyone. If you have a passion for discovering new places, things, and hidden knowledge, that's all the reason you need, and no one should question your choices.

You are most welcome within our organization, and congratulations on passing your test.

The things I were given last year were given meaning and story, background. They helped make a lonely, lifeless place come back to life a little bit. You were there for that, if I recall correctly.

It's been too long since I felt the pull to explore something on my own. Now that I have, I can't get out of the city fast enough. I've started plotting who to bring with me; Mason, of course as he's my husband and we first met when I was out on an expedition, though he'll hate the potential cold we might find, Elloise, for I promised to bring my proteges on grand adventures, and Calaudrin, because I know I can trust him when push comes to shove.

I've posted to the Society of Explorers today that I'm looking to take someone new to expeditions with our group. Mason, Calaudrin, and I are all experienced, and also explorers, but I sometimes feel we neglect our newer members. I will be interviewing for this last candidate.

There is a mountain range to the west that I've passed a number of times, and now I'm itching to finally move along its ridges and through its caves. With all of the ruins I've discovered, nearly 10 or more for every holding I've visited in the compact, I can only imagine the wonders that I shall find there. I expect it might even take more than one trip to explore it all - so never fear, my explorers, you will get your turn. I promise.

It will be nice to be out of the city, working on something that I want to do, for a change. Adventure Awaits!

I do not have the time or patience required to convince someone that something is real or not. If someone comes to me with a problem, I genuinely try to help them with it, with whatever resources I can find. Sometimes, it's easy to help them, sometimes it's more difficult. I do a lot of research, I do even more exploration. You could not begin to imagine some of the things that I have personally seen.

Petrichor's Grove in Black Woods, where the trees still have skeletons on them from where they skewered the enemies with the sharpened spikes of their own still attached branches in aid of Pena Stormryder in the Battle of Blackwoods.

Footprints leading south coming from the far, far north in Everwinter where no human or creature should have be able to live and should have been untouched for millenia because of the extreme cold of that particular region. Those tracks led into a sheer wall of ice in the mountains.

Sharing a cave with large wolves in the Northlands during a dark and stormy night, keeping warm from the cold wet rain - where the wolves didn't attack us, nor we them. We simply shared the cave for an evening, sleeping in a dry, warm place for the night. It was a beautiful, awe inspiring sight.

An Elven Princess marrying my cousin, the King, before all the eyes of those in Arx - with thousands upon thousands of spiders carrying the train of her dress and clapping at the appropriate moments during the wedding. This may not have been an expedition, but it was still quite the sight to witness.

I'm confident enough in my own experiences that I do not need others to believe in them. I've lived them. I believe. People know I'll believe them when they come to me for aid. That's all that matters. My time is better spent on helping those that need aid and are willing to accept it, and helping to keep the Compact safe from those threats we continue to face.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

I don't recall a time where I've ever flung self-importance in front of anyone when I went adventuring with people, scouting, or otherwise. In fact, I quite often defer to people who have more expertise than I do, and readily cede leadership if someone is better at something than I am. There's no place for that when out exploring, it gets you killed.

Though, I am not above embellishing stories of my travels, if I think it makes for a better telling of the adventure.

Relationship Note on Perronne

I could probably go point for point with you about why the forest is so much better than the city.

1. Beds - can be made out of anything you find, so long as you know what to find, and can be just as comfortable as any city bed. Plus, you get to smell the fresh night air, rather than someone's stuffy sweat from the night before if you're renting a room.

2. Fresh Food - You can forage for anything in the forest, fish in the rivers, and hunt. You don't get /any/ fresher than that. Who needs travel food if you have the skills to do these things?

3. Baths! - A well traveled explorer knows where all the best hot springs are within the woods, and Arx and Arvum has a surprising number of natural hot springs. Hot water galore, for as long as you want, without the water ever getting cold. It's the absolute /best/ for working out travel kinks and sore muscles.

4. People - Or, rather, the lack there of. I prefer only a handful of travel companions to a large city of people. But, I'm an explorer, and the more people you have, the more people you need to make sure live through your adventures. So, you get to choose the best of the best, and then take them with you. Of course, when you're trying to go as far north in Everwinter as you can or as far west in the Eventide that you can, you need a bunch of skilled people to make sure you live as well. But - it's all certainly worth it in the end.

5. Wonders Of the World - There's absolutely NOTHING that can compete with the sights of ruins where people from before the Reckoning have walked, or the Grove of Blackwood where Petrichor helped Pena Stormryder fight the enemy and came to her aid, or the pack of direwolves that peacefully slept in a cave with my party as I was traveling north on an expedition, sharing a night out of the cold without violence or harm to one another. Nothing.

And now I am homesick for the woods. I must make away with my husband for a camping trip, no matter how much he might complain of the cold of the spring thaw!

They tell me it's only a couple of more weeks before this baby is born. I haven't even thought of names. Something I hope to discuss with Mason soon. I think it's my turn to name a kid. He clearly influenced the last decision. Not that I hate Safiyyah's name. It's beautiful. And, a Eurusi mouthful! Though, much better than Mason's full name!

I can't wait to meet the little one.

And, maybe, I can't wait to get back to adventuring. Even if that will be a little bit of time yet before I have a chance to do so.

I believe all the previous people writing wills, until this latest spurt, were those going on the maiden voyage of the Carlotta. I mean, it's smart. It's a boat. It /could/ sink, but I hope it doesn't. Because, for personal reasons, I really, really want to see the maiden voyage of the Carlotta to be successful. I mean, really, what explorer /wouldn't/ want an OCEAN VOYAGING VESSAL be successful?

I have the Eventide to sail to again, and the cogs just can't cut it. I know this from experience. I've tried. They don't hack the storms, and don't have enough storage for supplies. We lost a ship and barely made it home. There's a hidden continent to find people. HIDDEN CONTINENT!

So, I'm glad people are setting wills, but please be safe, and don't sink!

Fervently praying to Mangatta the boat and the people in it make it.

I can attest from experience that having children doesn't make you predisposed to like people. Rather, it might make you predisposed to dislike them more -- because now you have to worry about other people around your children. However, you /might/ soften when around your own kids, somewhat. But only somewhat. You'll still have your hard, crusty edge otherwise, promise!

Damn it. Damn it to hell. I might actually /have/ to purchase a new dress now. But, thinking on it, I don't think I can get away with wearing the murder, death kittens dress I love so adoringly to my sister Sabella's wedding and reception.

STOP SNICKERING!

I'm going hunting.

One really good word of advice. The only name you should ever use around me is Lou. If you say the dreaded first name, even once. Well. People in Grayson can only tell you what will happen.

Now, be a good brother-in-law hopeful, will you?
