Relationship Note on Donella
My dear sister organized a dinner party the other day. It all went quite well and I was glad to see Jaenelle and some others there. It has me thinking that I should be more proactive about setting up some sort of event myself. The question then becomes... what? What could I do to showcase the greatness of House Thrax without overdoing it? It is a challenge I will need to think on.

A thought occurs to me.
It is amusing that often when one tries to do honor or to bestow praise, their actions instead have the opposite effect as they do not consider what effect that might have on another.
I am not innocent of this, but it is merely something I have observed about the world recently.

Relationship Note on Dawn
A charming woman and a credit to House Grayson. She is making efforts at trying to quell any trouble within the city. Our meeting went wonderfully and I got a pretty flower out of it which means I will need to meet with her again in the near future as time permits. I can see why Margot thinks so highly of her, there is much to appreciate.
I would write far more flowery words but alas time is fleeting and I have other matters to attend to. Let us just say that I look forward to future encounters with Lady Dawn.

My sister's handmaiden is as quiet as a mouse, yet I think she and Margot were speaking about something. I wonder what.
Nevermind that. Why does Donella permit her handmaiden to wander around the estate without shoes on? I shall have to ask her about this the next time I see her. Either the girl should have the decency to do her duties as one should, or she should be forced to walk on hot sand for a full day to teach her the value in wearing shoes.

Relationship Note on Larissa
Larissa is a joy to spend time with. She has a habit of coming up with these little games that take me by surprise yet leave me endlessly amused as well. Oh, how amusing it was when she told me of one of her favorite songs. How surprising it was when I found myself walking home with my shirt entirely unbuttoned and for agreeing to that end of the agreement for the night's entertainment.

I did not know that Enzo would be writing messages that contained the same text yet were addressed differently. I would have expected more from a craftsman. More creativity at least. It begs the question of the orphans in the city. If they are indeed such a problem, perhaps House Thrax can offer to assist.
Our ships do require crew after all. Being a sailor is not the easiest life and it requires hard work, but they would be paid and fed for their efforts. That has to be a lot better than whatever conditions they are facing now.

Relationship Note on Larissa
I recently spent some time with this young woman, and she certainly helped make what was going to be a boring evening into one that was more interesting. She is also from the islands. How curious. Her personality is certainly far more open than what I would have expected. I hope to spend some more time with her in the near future to learn more.

We've quarreled, and I'll admit I can hardly recall what it was about now, except I know that I am still irritable. I've been advised to make up with her by a mutual friend, and while I know they're both right, I'm still not willing to say so. I think I'll go sharpen my blade instead, and think on this matter again later on.

He won the Decathalon, which no one should have doubted. I'm not sure what he'll do with the trophies, perhaps I'll ask if he wants one displayed in the library. He'll say no, but I may try to persuade him. What's important is not that he won, but that he unlike some others competed with more than simply winning in mind.

Relationship Note on Isolde
She inspires a readily apparent loyalty in those close to her, which hardly comes as a surprise. The Princess moved even me to buy a flower, and though I looked everywhere for roses, I couldn't find a single one. Oleander, is apparently the name of the blossom I settled on. Poisonous apparently, but I did advise her not to eat it, so I think it'll be fine.

Relationship Note on Alarissa
The Masquerade ball hosted by Princess Alarissa Valardin was quite the event, and she was quite the hostess. I didn't win the vote for the best costume, but she made sure to let me know she appreciated the thoughtfulness with which I chose my mask, which was quite gracious of her. We spoke at length, I look forward to getting to know her further.

I am uncertain what to make of Prince Gareth right now. Our conversation was, I think, productive. We both shared concerns for the state of the city and I think that is a good place to work from. At the very least, he is the first Grayson I've really had the chance to speak with and open up the doors of diplomacy to. That alone made the meeting valuable.

I find myself rather excited. Princess Alis accepted my challenge to meet on the field to fight in a Rite to Gloria. I have seen Edain fight and I have seen Marian cross swords with others. I am curious to see Alis in action. My suspicion is that she will be quick, and I shall have to make sure I see to my defenses. Still, win or lose, I know she will fight with honor and it will be a pleasant experience to cross blades with her.

My grandfather is a great man. An imposing man. An intimidating man. I am uncertain if my own father would have been able to deal with the Tyde Rebellion as grandfather did, even if I do feel some measure of sympathy for the situation Margot now finds herself in.
I know he is a pragmatic man as well. Making Donella his voice in the city? A move that some could see as progressive, but it makes a good deal of sense. She is a capable woman, and it can put a young, pretty face forward for dealing with the other houses. Was this what he was thinking about when he gave her that position? It is ever difficult to determine his motivations at times, especially behind that that mask.

Duke Eugine Grimhall seems to be focusing on improving the economic status of his house by finding more sailors. An admirable goal, and one that I can support. I hope to see what other plans he has for the future of his house. A prosperous Grimhall can only help Thrax continue to thrive.

Ah, my cousin Jaenelle, charming and clever, I think she was happy with her arrangement, and it was a real tragedy that she became a widow so soon and at such a young age. I do enjoy the time I spend in her company though, especially when Valerius is around. Having someone else try and prod him down a better path is quite useful!

My grandfather and the Prince of Maelstrom. I am not entirely sure of his thoughts regarding me. All I can do is see to my duties and prove that I am no layabout and that I have the good of House Thrax at heart. Perhaps we do disagree a little on that, as I think the future of the house will involve much diplomacy with the other great houses.
