So I was out and about, south of the city and beyond the woods. Ran into some of the People, the Shav'arvani in Lycene territory speak a particular dialect, and I'm happy to say I've still no accent and no decay of fluency, as the Lady Aislin would perhaps coin the phrase. Decided to spend the summer and fall with a tribe in the Wilds, not exactly similar to my folk that lived a little north. While I was with them, got some new ink to add to that I'd gathered living with my tribe less than a handful of years ago

has it already been so long since then?

and it hurt less than I'd thought it might to live and run with the Shav again. I mean, don't get me wrong. Miss my family, I do, my spouses, my children, the little mobile village we lived in. But I didn't slip into true nostalgia, not like grief. Just ... well. They're not the same, right? Not the same people. Speak the same language, or at least one of them, but some of the traditions are different but again, that's not exactly unusual.

Oh right, yeah, the ink. So it turns out I don't see everything that's on me. I keep finding new stuff, new words, and the ink-master of this particular tribe pointed out a scribbled serpent on the upper back of my left thigh. Now, I've always caught Leta kissing back there, tracing something, thought it was just... you know. Some people like legs. Others, breasts. Some like that line right where the butt meets the thigh? Yeah, that. Anyway, turns out there's words in the scales of this serpent-thing. Or at least, that's what the ink-master told me. I've had Leta's mirror in the tub the last hour or so, after scrubbing myself clean, and I don't know if that old coot was full of shite or what because I don't see anything. Maybe it's in a language I don't know, maybe he was just fucking with me.

Sense of humor is pretty universal, guy had a glint in his one good eye something awful. I'm choosing to believe he's full of it and the elder of my tribe didn't sneak something else into my tattoos. I've found a few surprises, but Tehom's tits, I don't need anymore of those.

What was that, lad? Oh, aye, yes. It's good to be home.

Hmm? Aye, they've no fruit tarts in the wild. I've got four, here, you want one-?

Be warned, friend: If you come across an elder that -insists- you eat something? Don't question. Just eat it.

My love wrote me a poem. She wrote me a poem! Who does that anymore?

I'm in so much trouble.

I come home to Arx and my nephew is walking and my sister's knocked up again. Can't the world slow down a minute? Tehom's tits.

I'm not dead, vultures. But I do smell like I am. I am completely domesticated and you know what? I don't care. Where's the pie?

Knowing the man and a few of his weaknesses, I have to say it's rather refreshing to know -exactly- what will make your sellsword lose their faith in you.

Late payments. Undercutting. Stiffing.

But if you pay enough and if you especially have a long-standing contract with continued payments involved, you'd be surprised how loyal that would make an honest sellsword.

And Audric is, if nothing, honest.

Stopped by the Hart before my shift. Lovely fun, sparred with Merek. He's -greatly- improved in skill, he claims Luca's been helping him as well. Can't say I'm surprised, Luca's nimble as a cat and impossible to hit on a good day.

Got hit by a tentacle.

It hurt.

I brought lots of rum, though.

I chased an urchin through the streets today. Little bugger almost lost me. He'd stolen from one of those bakers' carts, a loaf of bread about half the size of him. He didn't really need it, I knew where he lived; solid family, good folk, just a little imp of a boy. His mother was mortified, she'd thought the bread was a gift, and his mother's wife just about turned inside out when i told about all the chaos he'd caused.

So they let me hang him upside down from their balcony. I had a good hold of his ankles, he wasn't going anywhere, but he squealed all the apologies to his mothers below him in their garden as they scolded him. Upside down.

I do hope this isn't outside my duties of Iron Guard. I mean. They were sweet mothers, truly, and the little boy was just upending carts and baskets through the winter market like he didn't know these were the livelihoods of others. I was happy to help. I righted him and set him down and handed him a hankerchief as he sniffled, blew his nose. I fixed his hair and tried not to laugh at him. Those big blue eyes looked up at me. I knew he was going to apologize.

He farted instead.

I was too busy laughing to do anything, his mothers dragged him inside and had the look on his face of a dead man walking. Poor tyke. I'll be sure to check on him next tour.

Ah, to give birth and leak from everywhere. No sleep. Mewling, defenseless, endearing giant hairless voles that depend on me to survive. And lactating, lactating on everything. Such memories.

I can honestly say I'm happy Leta can't father children on me. Those years are past, the chapters closed.

Doesn't stop the woman from trying, though.

What the Abyss do you do to fight a spreading ink-stain in the ocean? Kill the source? All I'm imagining is a giant, ancient squid with the worst case of the runs the Gods have ever seen. If putting it out of its misery will keep it from getting worse, well-

<there's a drawing of a very distressed squid at the bottom of the page, with giant X's for eyes, it's 'mouth' wide and comical but clearly in pain, its tentacles are spread out and flailing with a giant blob of black water escaping it, wrapping around it, and taking over the rest of the page. It ends rather in the middle of things; the ink splotches suggest a Scholar snatched the quill away.>

I have to agree with Audric, it's also the most effective way to end or win an argument.
