I'm greatly saddened and shocked to hear about the murder of Marquis Malespero. A man of big dreams and a bright spirit who will be missed by many. I'm only sorry that, though the glasses we've shared have been many, there were not more of them.

Slow and steady, someone once told me (NOT Sir Tiberio), wins the race.
I'm not sure that such is really true, but I can say this - slow and steady is how my guide book is being written. I hope to have the first portion of it out for the public soon, and then on to the second half, if the gods permit me the time in Arx to do it...

A few short months ago, I thought myself insane for having volunteered to play tactician to my cousin Lucrezia. I, a knight, a soldier on land... suggesting that I could help with tactics for an accomplished naval commander and daughter of my greatest role model. It seemed insanity, truly, but as Sir Tiberio would've pointed out, the one who dares is the one who succeeds.
It would seem that fate - and my cousins - have decided my talents lie elsewhere. I've been appointed General of the First Legion of Setarco.
May Gloria smile upon us and grant success against the looming Skal'dajan threat.

I'm wary about this evening's meeting regarding the war planning. It has all the feelings of waiting for another shoe to drop. Perhaps I'm just getting a little bit antsy after how long we've been talking about the need to take to sea, much less the attack a few weeks back in the ward...

The pamphlet about the pubs of Arx is coming along nicely - I think the first portion of it should be ready in the very near future.
It should be interesting to see what comes of it - I hope others find it useful, but we shall see in the fullness of time. I only hope that that strange unknown that is the future, which lies ahead of us, permits me to finish the work.

My cousin Graziella's (belated) birthday was last night - a good time had by all, though I think I'll still be more wary of her brews in the future, in terms of both potency and its ability to turn one's tongue interesting colours. That said, I seem to have come away from it as a winner in a game - who'd have ever guessed that I'd be capable of winning a match of shadow tag?
Now I have to think of where to properly display the gorgeous lantern that was gifted to me as my prize...

Conversations this week about my role with Lucrezia have me worried about where we might stem the tide. I'd hoped that there'd be a more hopeful note about facing the Eurusi fleet, but I fear that the reported numbers are having a poor effect on my cousins' morale.
Though an enlightening conversation with Lady Leena Igniseri might offer hope in the longer run, with some of her more interesting inventions. I know she presented the designs of such to the Thrax lords and ladies who are in a position to fund her work, and she was kind enough to furnish me with some of the same. I'm concerned that, ambitious as they are, there's not time to have anything come to fruition to help us gain some advantage ourselves in this coming conflict when we need any help we can get.
I'm determined not to let the weight of this settle on me too heavily. We must find a way to win, and I must find a way to prove that the faith put in me as a tactician is not wasted.

I have officially been to my first masquerade for the Eclipse of Mirrors - a curious thing to say the least. Many thanks to Professor Orick for the kindness of the gift of a mask for my part in the fundraiser for the college, as it was breathtaking to say the least.
I'm left a little bit shaken, however, with my encounter with the mirror masked one in the role of Tehom. I know not what to make of his blessing to me - save that it seems very much timely and something that should weigh on my mind with the dark days yet to come. Perhaps I'll ask Graziella and Lucrezia what they think of the matter, Graziella for her unique insight into matters as such, and Lucrezia as I should hate to lead her astray when she's shown trust in me as tactician...

The fundraiser for the apothecary college this week seems to have been a success, as they are quite soaked now with silver for the time being. All of the credit in the world for Lady Emberly Farshaw and Professor Orick, who raised quite the sum for the effort - five hundred thousand silver is nothing at all to sneeze at. Additionally, Princess Valencia Velenosa is to be thanked for her gracious permission in allowing her Golden Hart's main room to be used for the event, and I hope I did not leave too much of a mess with the splashing around.
I will confess I'm very shocked at the good aim of those involved in throwing the sandbags at the target. I may have chosen poorly in goading them on, though it was in the service of an excellent cause.

It's hard to believe that the Eclipse of Mirrors is almost upon us once again. I'm finding it very enjoyable, the thought of having it as a distraction with these poor omens and whispers of trouble from home, even if part of my mind's not willing to let go of the things I'm hearing. A few nights of revelry, a needed break from these troubles, and then on to the larger things, I think.

Whilst in the bazaar last night, I ran into Graziella, who gave me some very good fashion advice to ruminate on, as well as letting me know I wasn't the only one who feels a little overwhelmed with quantity and size of the social events about the city.
Two invitations to masquerades so far. It's going to make for a very busy holiday.

I do love the variety of events one can attend about the city if one's paying attention. From a party in a frozen garden, to a release party for a family's latest prized whiskey, to weddings and demonstrations of skill, there's quite a bit to stumble across whilst roaming. And through this fabulous way to meet people, I'm finding more and more cousins (and more distant relations)... and more invites to events.
Perhaps I might need to hire an assistant to help me keep track of these things.

I'm seriously ready for winter to end.
When it was suggested to me to journey to Arx from Setarco, I thought this would be a grand adventure - no one said anything to me about bloody freezing cold weather and snow falling from the sky interminably. I'm very grateful to have found the pools at the Golden Hart, where I can at least take a deep and, while it's still dealing with the snow, there's at least some warmth there that will keep me remembering what spring and summer are like while we wait for them to arrive.

I attended the winter festival at the Laurents' a few nights ago - my first time ice skating, not that you'd perhaps be able to tell from my actually managing to not fall. I wish that more had been so daring as to try the skating, since it was a lot of fun, but others were clearly more happy to be trying their hand at the sledding.
Still, I'll be grateful when spring arrives. This city's too cold for my taste.

Words truly cannot express.
My cousin Sebastian's wedding last night was incredible, beyond any real means for me to put words to it. I can only but thank the gods that I was fortuitous enough to arrive in Arx in time for the wedding so that I could take part and celebrate with him and his lovely bride.
This is a family to which I am so proud to belong and continuously awestruck at being warmly accepted by as one of them - may I bring them as much joy and honour as they give to me.
