Relationship Note on Zhayla
I still recall quite well the first day I met this woman. She was sitting in one of the aisles of the Academy, right in the middle of it, reading a book. Little did she know just how much work that would lead her to in the subsequent weeks to come. It's been fascinating to watch her journey from that wide eyed girl to the woman that was knighted last night, but it speaks well of the Deepwood that they have recognized the worth in this one. She will undoubtedly go on to do many great things.

Relationship Note on Zhayla
I have known Zhayla for what feels like a very, very long time. In truth we've not been associated for very long in the grand scheme of things. A year, perhaps? A few months more than that, I think. Which in the flow of time within and around Arx; when first meetings followed by marriage proposals occur in the span of weeks or people act as though they're lifelong friends after a matter of days, then I suspect that I've known Zhayla for an eternity.
I met her as a result of meeting and befriending the one that I'm married to and Zhayla was there nearly every step of the way. Quietly accompanying dinners, lurking in the background during evening strolls, or just socializing over drinks. A retainer within her House, she struck me as an abnormally positive and sincere guard. She did not possess the paranoia that I had developed with my time in the King's Own. She accepted me with the openness of one eager to learn. She is a fierce warrior, but she does not permit that fact to drive her to tyranny. She is, in few words, a good person. The Marquessa and Zhayla both aid in providing me with a certain level of guidance, moral or otherwise.
Early on she seemed fascinated by me. Likely a result of my status within the King's Own. She looked at me as one looks to a role model and as a result I felt compelled to properly fill that role as water fills a pitcher. I saw, and still see, in her the capacity for greatness. I have always felt that with the proper guidance, support, and aid that she will accomplish great things in both word and deed. Even horseback riding, someday. We have spoke on the topic of knighthood a great deal since our first meeting and it is a topic that I generally hold in high regard. I am a knight, I have been a knight for nearly a decade at this point, I squired with Sir Jak Whitemane, as my siblings did before and after me. So when the topic is knighthood and the philosophy of it, I am generally quite attentive.
When Zhayla expressed her interest in knighthood to me, I embraced that question. It is a simple question to me, but quite complicated in the eyes of many. What I did know is that if Zhayla were to be knighted, she would immediately be a greater knight than many who claim the station. Compassionate, fierce, honorable, humble, courageous, and honest.
All of these things, all of these memories, and all of this work is why I am proud to see Zhayla reach that goal. Dame Zhayla of Old Oak, Sword of House Deepwood. She has earned all of that and so very much more. When the day comes that I pass on, I will rest easy in knowing that Dame Zhayla will stand implacable in defense of House Deepwood and the Marquessa. The goal we should all possess is to be better than we were the day before and it is my belief that Dame Zhayla embodies that. So long as the heart is true and intent pure, the rest will follow.

Relationship Note on Zhayla
It was good to see this young prodigal again. If anything, she clearly needed a reminder not to be lax on her homework and learning, though I believe we have rectified that appropriately, and she won't forget again, at least not if she remembers point Three Hundred and Sixty Eight. I look forward to her knighting ceremony, an honor that is well deserved.

Relationship Note on Zhayla
Zhayla is a joy. A joy who can bash in skulls and clear a battlefield with that big weapon of hers. She's only beginning to make a life for herself in the Compact, and that path is not always an easy one to walk. But I think she'll do very well. She has a great heart, is a great warrior, and will be a great knight.

Relationship Note on Zhayla
Mistress Zhayla is someone who doesn't know her own worth, though I hope in the coming months, now that we can all take a collective breath and assess where we stand, she's able to see more of her true self and how important she is to so many. She's like the little strand of salt and sand and pebbles between the water and the land, where treasures hide if you're patient enough to walk there and risk the splash of the water, and the wind coming off the grassy dunes. Every time we meet, I find something new to cherish. She's a living piece of our history but more than that, she's rapidly becoming a piece of my own heart as a dear friend.

Relationship Note on Zhayla
I find myself musing upon quite what terminology might best be applied to my connection to this young woman. She is the half-sister of my late husband's informally-adopted daughter. Step-half-daughter-out-of-law? Whimsical musings aside, she seems to be someone with whom I can sympathise and (if I flatter myself) empathise. She is intelligent, appears capable, and finds herself straddling more than one culture. I certainly hope to have the opportunity to get to know her, and I have faith that she and others like her will help to ensure that the city surives its present travails.

Relationship Note on Zhayla
A kitten. A puffy kitten in a nest of sand and bleached driftwood, her bright orange fur in stark contrast to the pale. She is sleeping, or at least relaxed, her paw crept over her nose, her tail crooked, but still and placid along her side. Only the perk of her ears hint at anything like alertness. Moon shines down on her, its full, round shape shaky and silver, shaky as a reflection in the water.

Relationship Note on Zhayla
I had the pleasure of bumping into Miss Zhayla in the middle of the Costumers Closet. Or more precisely, she bumped into me and Prince Valerius as we discussed the merits of the various fabrics displayed there.
It needs no mention that I have seen Miss Zhayla in Sammie's presence more than once, albeit always from a distance. As such I gladly took the opportunity to engage her for a little talk. For one, it turns out she has an eye for colour, but surprisingly enough she's employed as a guard. (Okay, so the sword ought to have given it away, but these are trying times and sharp metal makes a person feel safer. Right!?)
Knowing Sammie's eye for talent, I suspect this young miss has a couple more cards up her sleeves; she surely left in such a speedy rush that it left me speechless by the suddenness of it.
One thing is for sure: Arx is not that big of a city. We'll meet again.

Relationship Note on Zhayla
An energetic young woman with a good sense of humor. I had the luck to find her lost in the Archives, and again later at Festival hosted by the Deepwood House. She reflects well upon them I think, and her sword will no doubt be quite busy in the months to come. I look forward to future conversations with this one.

I've not spoken to this woman much, but she seems to be a curiosity amongst the people I've met. Often as smiling and laughing like I tend to be sometimes. I hope that we can become friends, regardless what some might think about her.

She's a bit too much for the honor of it all, but she fights like a demon and drinks like a knight on duty. Still, she's got the skills and if you've seen that smile when she's got that sword of hers in hand, well, you just know you gotta recruit her. Haven't been back long, but probably earned a bonus on my next Champion sponsored duel after getting her into our guild. It's not all about the coin. It's about the fighting too.

A very small woman with a very large sword. Not a very good horse tender. Or...groom? Whatever they're called. Samantha has assured me she is competent. Very competent. I'm considering taking her out into the field with me, especially if she is familiar with the Gray Forest. She seems a refreshing sort and, I'm sure, a fierce warrior. We shall see.
