Relationship Note on Sorrel

Attended a concert hosted by Princess Sorrel Thrax. Unfortunately I didn't arrive in time for the song, but I was able to at least enjoy the informative aspects of the gathering.

One question in particular caused me to think about some aspects of the world. With all the time in the world, I imagine one would take up a hobby such as doilies and all of that. Makes sense to me.

I gathered that the next concert regarding the Metallics will be about one called Silver. I hope that I won't fuss over what to wear before the next concert so that I can be punctual with my arrival.

Relationship Note on Sorrel

I gotta say, Princess Sorrel did a real good job. I liked her song and found it interesting. Now I got even more stuff that I want to learn about. There's not enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do these days!

Mostly I wanted to thank her though for being so willing to share and teach. It was real refreshing!

Relationship Note on Sorrel

I've never been one to go to performances, but Arx has truly opened my eyes to all that is available for someone to experience.

Princess Sorrel's performances have been magnificent. The songs she's chosen are very well sung and beautifully composed.

I like that they are not just made up pieces, but valuable lessons of our history.

Knowledge should be shared, not feared or kept hidden.

This makes us all wiser.

Thank you.

Relationship Note on Sorrel

Dear Princess Sorrel, Beloved Niece:

One of my assistants brought me the white journal you wrote to my cousin Marian.

I think you've gravely misunderstood the situation - along with maybe a few others.

I don't mean to call you out of singularly point fingers here but since this is the first time I've seen mention of it in the whites directly rather than whispers - I would like to address this for posterity and, well, because you /are/ my niece!

I sincerely don't know where people are reading into that one of his "haha you should definitely burn down Farhaven" jokes translates into some kind of very strange form of prejudice that doesn't even exist in Arx...

But I'll try to clarify.

My husband isn't unhappy with her genitals or choice of armor over petticoats. It's with the fact she burned Stormwall down.

Whether or not that was a superb choice or a decidedly terrible and unnecessary one is not within my realm of expertise to judge - I am not master tactician. Not here to debate /this/ today. It's beyond my grasp.

But my husband has strong feelings. He is entirely valid in his opinions and you cannot deny him, even if it's 'in the past', because the events that transpired during that fateful night have been impacting him and directly /still/ impact him as a Duke, and as a Crovane, and as a person.

Some may sneer at him and roll their eyes because there is not as much value in architecture as there is in human lives (of which we lost many), but just remember:

This is the city that my husband grew up in.

It's the city his children were meant to be born in.

It's the city that his forefathers conquered and built with their own blood, sweat, tears, and the same stubborn determination that he displays today.

We didn't lose just a city and some buildings.

We lost granaries to feed our people with.

Our people - crafters and merchants - lost their livelihoods when the market burned down. They were not only left without homes, but without a means to provide for themselves.

We lost important religious monuments - the Aerie? Destroyed. The sayings and wisdoms of the spirits etched on its walls? Gone.

We lost archives. We lost books. We lost knowledge.

We lost aqueducts that supplied fresh water to our city, irrigated our fields and in turn helped feed our people.

Then, we spent several months rebuilding from the literal ashes of Stormwall.

If the Compact had turned their backs on us and didn't support the rebuilding of Stormwall (I might add no small part was funded by Marian herself) the Gyre would have doomed an entire generation or two to a really, really shitty life wherever they had been displaced.

So you know what? He's entitled to his prickly opinions. We have had to make some really hard decisions. We have had to see our people go through the Abyss for the past year.

Crovane, and the people of Stormwall made a great sacrifice for the whole of the Compact - and the Compact in turn should /definitely/ grant him the right to his opinions.

Now. As you see, none of the reasons above have taken any bearing from her sex. Unless she spewed the flames that took down Stormwall from her whisker biscuit. Then, I'm not sure my husband would have said much of anything, he'd probably have been impressed and awestruck and may have married her instead of me for surely that /is/ a talent to rival many others.

Horrific, but a talent none the less.

Imagine being able to take down a city with that! Har!

Anyway. I won't be speaking out on this any more. I do invite you and Galen over for dinner sometime, however. Been a while since I've seen the both of you.

The Bladesong is a credit to her family and fealty. After her impressive skills in combat, she now bested the entire field in the Joust.

All of Gloria's honor to you, my friend.

It goes without saying but your performance throughout the jousting competition was amazing. The Bladesong is most definitely not one to trifle with on horseback.

By the Gods, I could swear I was flying down the lists after that unhorsing.

Relationship Note on Sorrel

I've never been one for a joust. Horses and I don't get along nearly as well as other animals. But I've always respected the sport for its visceral style and the brutality one risks when getting smashed by a lance at high speeds.

Falling from horses looks like it's shit. So kudos to Sorrel for staying on the horse and bearing the brunt of her share of blows.

I was awestruck by Princess Sorrel today, she did such a brilliant job in the jousting lists and frankly I have never felt myself fly quite so well as I did with that final hit. Very well done, you did an incredible run and deserved that win!

Princess Tikva, wow you were an amazing opponent, pure grace on a horse. I remember the horse race and how you flew, that is the only word I could describe it as, flew down the lane. Today was no different, well fought!

Relationship Note on Sorrel

Book,

You know it perhaps isn't said enough how important having the right person to stand beside you is. I don't mean on the battlefield, though I'd welcome her at my side on the battlefield anytime. I mean in life, it is so important to have the right person to live life with at your side. The strength you can draw from simply knowing someone loves you the way you love them is undeniable, a reason to live when facing the darkest enemy.

For me, Sorrel is all of that and more and since it has been some time since I have publicly proclaimed my love to her in a journal, I thought it fitting to do so. I hope that everyone is lucky enough to find their Sorrel.

You are a source of inspiration and someone I look up to immensely. I have felt nothing but familial love since we met and it has only grown since. I cannot wait to see what adventures we will find together as we both serve Thrax and the Compact from all that would harm them.

Also your armor is amazing, I admit that I was admiring it rather a lot during the ceremony.

Princess Sorrel, your voice is divine, and your heart is generous. Congratulations on the birth of your son, Prince Kyrios. May he grow to lead a life as noble as his mother's. I don't know how you managed to do it, walk all that way, so soon after giving birth. But the end goal was so worth it in the end, don't you think? I am amazed by your strength and conviction.
