Relationship Note on Abbas
Spent the morning training Prince Abbas Thrax. The man doesn't fool around, which I appreciate. My time is money, after all. What's more I hate to waste my skill and talent on those who aren't giving their all when they come to me for mentoring.
The are other, cheaper alternatives for learning how to swing a sword or dodge a blow, though I surely won't list them here.
The new warlord seems to be looking towards the future with eyes no longer blinkered. I can only hope the gods set him on a sure path, so that he might not go through life sewing wanton destruction and misery, of which so many are capable.

I will admit when I first came to Arx and I was told of him I was scarred of him, a Thrax Warlord and Prince he has a very hard shell. But there is something else there as well. I got to see some of the other side of the man even got into a drinking contest with him. I would feel safe with him any day protecting me and mine. Oh and by the way I won the contest.

The Isles have been home to many horrors for all of their existence. My predecessor was a man who held the reins of many of them in his hands as they went by. Let it never be said that we cannot find peace with ourselves on these raging waves, or that we can never walk upon a shore without our shadows following in our wake.
I commend my cousin's quest for redemption. You may have a long way to go, but I know you have the strength to see it through. I am proud of you.

Change does not come easy and this is a brave change to offer, with his proclamations Prince Abbas sets a new boundary. It may take some time but the other Houses of Thrax may some day follow suit and also adjust their stances on the use of disease and flayings. Until then many will have their eyes on the Thrax Military lead by the Reaver Prince to show if these changes are worthwhile.
And perhaps eventually flayings will become a thing of the past for non-military matters. Arvum will have to keep praying until then.

After a lifetime of stories, of seeing the longing in the eyes of my mother, I finally met her first born son. Brother. Oh, how that sends a shiver down my spine! I finally met my elder brother (The younger one I've known all my life, naturally). I am not sure there is a word grand enough for the feeling of being in his presence. He is so large -- physically he is taller than me by a bit, built as a warrior, of course, but he projects himself into a much larger space than all that. He is simply *there* in a way that I have not be able to put word to. I am gushing. But it is hard not to. Family is everything. I must write mother to let her know that I have finally begun to close the circle. Abbas spoke of Fatima and I can only hope with all I am that I one day soon get to meet her as well. I am also writing Sebastian to hurry him to Arx so that he too can meet our elder siblings. Coming to Arx was the best decision I could have made.

He is a man borne of both endless sand and sea, with fire in his veins and a killer's unrepentance in his eye. I do not know what to think of him, so I shall not commit thought to a reality I not yet understand myself. The way of the lands that welcome me are a hard thing to grasp, their language so vastly different from my own. But he speaks mine well enough, and that is comforting in itself.
