Finally finished the Layperson's Songs of Faith, part one that I was writing and got a start on the first song for part two. Now to rest my poor tired brain and fingers.

Relationship Note on Sebastian

Such talent. How did he get so much detail packed into such a small square of canvas? Wonder what will inspire or what will become his next painting.

Numbers make my head hurt. Today it is the naval fleet figures of salaries, the amount of food eaten, upkeep, fleet size versus coastline length, merchant traffic, and pirate activity...aaargh!

Spring is on the way. Just a few more days. That is what I tell my two year old twins with cold reddened cheeks and runny noses, lost gloves and an array of outgrown boots into which they have stuffed plushie paws. And plushies, and blocks, and my lost hairpins. I wondered where those had gone. They are at the age where they do not remember last spring. I'll enjoy the coming change of season even more as I share it with them.

Relationship Note on Josephine

The longer I know Josephine, the more I respect her ability to handle her family, business, and customers so skillfully. That is without even mentioning the beautiful jewelry she designs and crafts!

Today I am eating soft foods and drinking soothing teas, not because am ill but because my tongue is sore from biting it so much to avoid rudely interrupting or skeptically questioning some of the comments at an educational session at the Vellichor Academy the night past.

Relationship Note on Ariella

Where are you Ariella? Are you safe? What adventures have you had? I miss you so much and Luis, too. My twins won't even recognize their aunt, my twin. You missed another of our birthdays and … we used to always try to spend those together even if we did not celebrate a formal party celebrating the passage of years. Come home, Ariella, come home soon. You are missed.

Relationship Note on Tescelina

A new singing student! One who has an interest in the stars and research. I'm wondering where her combination of interests will take her.

Another song finished, finally. That is five of the thirteen. But are they ever finished? I look back over them and think... that line could have been smoother, or grammar is terrible but it still makes the lyrics flow and have passion. Can people understand the flow of thoughts or do they seem disconnected to others? Do all the lines have to rhyme? Of course not, the song tells a story or conveys an emotion, memorializes an event, amuses, or any of many things. And sometimes they change, one bard or singer tweaking it, evolving it to fit a particular locale or group of people yet still holding the intent and core of the song. It is my hope that if mine evolve in such a manner that they are stronger, better songs. The ones I've been working on the past year and all of this year have been a task I set for myself, just to see if I could do it and what might come to mind. It's frustrating at times, parts coming easily and then stuck on how to fit a concept into the music. Still it is a challenge and in trying to meet it am learning more about myself.

The final month of this winter is at last here. I shall sing to the coming spring and all that is to be done when it arrives.

Prayers at the shrines led to several of us seeking a warm room and warm drinks after the meditations and prayers finished. Conversation was punctuated by the crackle and gnawing of my dogs and some of those visiting enjoying some soup bones the cook had set aside for them.

Some conversations are just so awkward, no matter how you approach them but it is such a relief when they are over.

There is always a price to pay for the things we do. This time mine seems to be quite a few fading bruises though they don't hurt as much since Marquessa Reigna tended to me, and peace of mind the ability to sleep without nightmares. It will pass in time, it always does, especially when friends help. But... I'm worn out for now.

The one thing I find difficult about teaching is when the topics covered strip away that feeling of security or open eyes to risky concepts that might not have been considered. And that holds true be it some of the social graces or dealing with small weapons.

Relationship Note on Teireno

Wonder how my cousin will like this cold and snow since he has not wintered in Arx yet. He is amicable and blushes worse than I do, which is adorable in its own way. I spent time today giving him tips on performing in front of people, not singing or playing an instrument but hiding and projecting emotions and how to move neither stiffly nor over doing actions so arms flap about, how to interact with an audience. He learns quickly!

Another winter, more snow, more cold. And those from the north call it relatively mild. Brrr.
One of my friends from the north recommended cuddling in a nice nest of furs and pillows before a warm fire was a nice remedy for the cold days. I tried it. My twin children loved having their mother down on their level to cuddle though it turned into a pillow fight and the dogs had to join in to get their share of being petted. It was a pleasant time though don't think that is the sort of cuddling they had in mind when speaking of it.

Winter has arrived with the turning of the year. It is hard to believe it is already 1011. I think back over what has happened the past year and wonder what challenges we will have to face in the year coming, and pray we have the strength and courage to get through them.

Relationship Note on Sorrel

When music is your passion, and suddenly your voice is gone, it is akin to a warrior losing their hand. Sad, frustrating, infuriating, and frightening all bundled up in one not-so-tidy package. We'll do all we can to rectify the situation for you, my friend. It is just gong to take time.
