Relationship Note on Lucio

A talented musician with a good sense of humor. Sadly, he does not take his liquor very well. Those poor barmaids...

Relationship Note on Cai

A learned Rangers with a talent for teaching and fighting. Likes to sleep on the ground for presumably dubious reasons, but thoroughly enjoys Mercier wine. I hope civilization treats him kindly.

Relationship Note on Jeremiah

A young man from the North who works closely with my sister and the Marquessa Deepwood, who may be a potential suitor in the future.

He has passed my first test. The next is in the works.

Anyone know of a body of water nearby with sharks? Other than the ocean?

Relationship Note on Anze

He beat me!

I must have a dent in my armor or something.

I kid - he's good and duly receives my admiration and praise.

Relationship Note on Barric

He seemed impressed at my youth, but he is not much older and not far behind. House Grayson is lucky to have him, as both a man and as a warrior. I look forward to what the future may have in store for him.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

Under the large, old trees, there are many graves, marked by mounds of earth. In these graves, the ordinary, simple country folk of the village are buried. The sights, sounds, and smells of a country morning can no longer greet those who have died. They may have wielded great promise or potential. Someone may have had the strength, courage, and leadership to conquer and rule a great kingdom. But extreme poverty held back their deep feelings and their creativity. One villager may have had the genius of a poet but could not write and so remained unknown.

Who has ever accepted that he will be forgotten? Who leaves the warmth of earthly life without any regret? Those who are dying need to know that someone loves them and will weep when they are gone. After we are dead, our tombs are reminders of the human desire to be remembered.

And thus, the life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living.

Farewell, my friend, you will be missed. As knights, we acknowledge that we must be vigilant and ready for our end for it may come at any time. But don't be disappointed if I'm not eager to join you any time soon.

I will make sure, however, that you are properly avenged.

I intend to give out sets of essential clothing from the shelter in the near future, preferably to those in need. I have inquired after my fellow crafters to assist me since I'm really, really terrible at sewing.

Perhaps I shall present them in chests, too.

Tea party favors have been procured.

... I'm probably enjoying this too much. I should hand it over to Bethany.

My training rates, to whom it may concern:

You're likely to fall on your sword = 2000 silver
You know how to hold your sword = 4000 silver
You can hurt me = 6000 silver
You can actually hold your own = 8000 silver
You beat me = 10000000 silver for wasting my time

Keep in mind I can only focus on one person per week - I can be a busy man - but anyone is free to drop by to watch and take notes.

Relationship Note on Bethany

Whip-smart but careful enough not to show it to everyone, Bethany is a daughter any father can be proud of and a sister any brother can be impressed by.

Should she find her footing, the world ought to watch out.

Well since everyone is doing it, here's Silas's thoughts re: thralldom. Don't worry, it's not long and my opinion is not one which truly matters.

But it nevertheless exists.

Thralldom is deplorable. I do not believe them being criminals somehow makes another injustice right or permissible; it is merely an excuse. I'm doubtful that every person turned into a thrall is an irredeemable monster and I can so easily see how such a system can be abused for selfish gain than any genuine attempt to correct misbehavior. There are degrees and situations are complex: I do not believe a pickpocket deserves a life of abject poverty with no opportunity of ever pulling themselves out of it. And the truly monstrous? Better off hanging them than giving them the opportunity to harm again.

But the perpetuation of thralldom hasn't continued at the bidding of just a few highborn malefactors of great wealth, but the also at the behest of the callousness of those who observe it and do nothing. I believe the change must come from within for it to mean anything substantial.

But there is some merit in at least talking about it and for that Samantha deserves some credit for her small act of bravery.

The Concordal Melee was an entertaining exercise and I suspect the citizens of Arx enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Princess Serafine Velenosa was without a teammate, so I had my squire join her team, and he fared far better than expected even if he needs some work on his sword swing. He did what he does best, though: take punishment - and they ended up pulling off the win.

Though her teammate fell and there was little chance she could win, Lady Kima Saik was the last standing and I dare say she still gained quite a few fans. Prince Anze did well, too: he just happened to be the only one Arron managed to hit.

Lady Eirene Malvici proved her ability to adapt by teaming with Lady Kima when her teammate was eliminated, even if it was for naught. It was done in the true spirit of the event. I suspect it helped that Lady Kima was of the Lyceum as well, but still...

Mistress Ida punched through some steel plate. I'm not sure how, but the feat in itself is impressive.

The others did as well as they could within the chaos, I imagine: perhaps next time they will coordinate with another team to knock out their rivals? That would be my strategy!

Well, back to work. This gazebo isn't going to make itself.

I doubt my father expected me to be the one out of his progeny to be appointed as a councilor to the Crown, and yet it is now so. The circumstances which led to it happening are just as strange...

But I am thankful for the opportunity. My fate - if there is such a thing - appears to be rife with unexpected twists and turns.

This will be an awkward letter to pen.
