Relationship Note on Ferrando

The man is capable of assaulting a series of pies with enthusiasm bordering on fervor. I placed second to himself and even then he exceeded my own efforts with startling efficiency. I do believe he is capable of breathing through his ears.

Relationship Note on Nadia

It is not often that I write openly of those who have fallen or otherwise left our mortal presence.

I make an exception to this usual standard only because it was only a few short days ago it feels like, that I met Duchess Nadia Nightgold. She had sent a letter to me, advising me that she wished to meet with me, and share a drink. A most peculiar request, coming from a lady of such high station. It is not often that I receive a personal letter requesting an opportunity to meet, drink, and generally socialize. As a result, I accepted. I was intrigued to know more of this stranger who wished to know me.

She came upon the palace gates just before sunset. The knights of the King's Own there inspected her for any manner of contraband that is not permitted within the palace grounds. Reportedly the Duchess carried with her an arsenal of weaponry, of which she began to voluntarily offload into the waiting arms of the knights there. Amusing, to be sure. Then she was escorted to myself to share the drink that she had requested.

We had wine that evening within the palace gardens, a place with a spectacular view. The sun was in the midst of setting and the moon rising on the opposite end of the horizon. We met, we spoke, we shared a moment for two strangers to finally clear the obscuring fog of routines and schedules. It was an honor and privilege to have met the Duchess and it pains me to know that I will have no such opportunity again. I will in no way make a claim to being her newest best friend or even that I knew her well, but I do recognize the sense of loss that comes with only just meeting someone you found likable and then only find that no such chance will be available going forward.

My condolences and prayers are with the entirety of House Nightgold. I hope, with all of my being, that you may have your vengeance at the loss of kin and devoted servant of the Compact.

Our enemies have robbed us of yet another and it is only proof that unity must prevail.

I feel much better now.

Duty can be overwhelming, so even in these troubling times we must remember as a united people that sometimes we must step away from the rigid structures of position and purpose. We must embrace the concepts within our lives that provide us with the reasons to fight today, tomorrow, and years into the future.

Appreciate what you have, be thankful for that which you are given, and remain resolute in the face of adversity.

The Compact and it's people will survive.

I do believe I will wear my red linen shirt tomorrow.

Relationship Note on Reese

A Grayson Princess and stalwart member of the Iron Guard. They're lucky to have her.

She seems able to devote herself to a worthy cause. On top of that fact she has a bravery streak to her. I can only hope that she will maintain that habit, without it getting her killed.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

It has become my personal goal to bring Sir Aleksei Morgan into the collective fold that is service to His Imperial Majesty, King Alaric Grayson IV.

Sir Aleksei has already thrown out many excuses as to why he is unqualified, yet each has been defeated as soundly as Sir Aleksei has defeated many a foe throughout his career as a knight.

It is only a matter of time and a matter of the people believing that Sir Aleksei Morgan could be an unorthodox, but still quite effective protector of the Crown as a member of the most august protects of His Majesty, the King's Own.

I have unerring faith in Sir Aleksei that he will, with time and reflection, come to recognition the immense amount of good he will be capable of when he does finally give in to destiny. I will welcome him with open arms when that time arrives and seek to take his vow myself if permitted.

Gods be praised.

Relationship Note on Anabelle

She's arrived with her older sister. I know that she's going to do well within the city. She's always enjoyed people and people have always enjoyed her. Where better to find oneself under those circumstances than a place with half a million people thrown together? I think she will do well, though I can imagine her sister will have to rein her in from time to time. It is my sincere hope that she can find her place within the court and do what she enjoys.

I've already borne witness to her past habits forming within the city already. She truly does love to surround herself with people. Good for her. I am sure she'll be a delight for them as much as she expects them to be for her.

Relationship Note on Demura

An unexpected face to find in Arx. I imagine she sought to surprise me with her presence, since she didn't send word ahead. I may have stepped away from my family in order to take on the duty of protecting His Majesty, but that does not defeat the fact that it is good to see an old face from my youth in the city. She has done well by her House and I'm certain that she will be the bright hope for it. She has lost none of her confidence and self-assurance. I'm proud to see that she's taken to her role as Marquessa with such aptitude.

I am confident that she will lead her family resolutely forward with a steady hand, wisdom, and her own brand of charm. She brought her younger sister with her as well. I'm sure I'll be hearing their names regularly now. I wish them the best of luck and pray that they will do right by the people of Arx.

Dear Diary,

It has clearly been some time since I've witnessed my original home before taking my vow. I've been assured that it has been a great deal of time if I've forgotten the taste of the Redoubt's rubylicious apples and the juicy, thick, robust, girth of the most mouth-watering and filling apples ever grown.

Some day perhaps I will visit Dicken's Cider & Apple Orchard personally in order to collect a few fresh rubylicious treats. I imagine that Dauntless would eat every one in sight.

Love,
Rymarr

I will say this much on the behalf of the Royal Stable Master. He is dedicated to his work and takes it as an affront when he perceives anyone assuming his duties. It is admirable and I can only hope that many more sworn to His Majesty will showcase such commitment.

To whomever decides to view my journals, read onward with ease and unity in your heart.

Over the course of the last two days, I have received a number of letters offering congratulations. I ask that you do not congratulate me on assuming further duties to His Majesty; do not applaud my working more. From the newly sworn knight of the King's Own to the Lord Commander, our purpose is singular and we perform that duty to King Alaric Grayson IV because it is what is right. Do remember I have not become the Lord Commander of his His Majesty's royal guard yet. I still retain the duties and title of First Captain. Our Lord Commander is still to this point Dame Leona Thrax.

Instead of congratulations directed toward myself, I ask that the next time you encounter a member of the Iron Guard, Knights of Solace, Inquisition, King's Own or any other august body which seeks to protect our Compact that you extend a simple, heartfelt thanks to that individual or group. They work tirelessly in an effort to provide security and peace of mind to those who pursue other interests. In the worst of moments it is not merely their time or energy that is laid on the line in defense of our Compact, but their lives.

I will not shy from the tender topics, nor will I be fearful of discussing them. We have suffered betrayal from within when the former Lord Commander of the Iron Guard sought to assassinate His Majesty's regent, we have witnessed infighting among our own protectors recently, a host of disagreements have sprang up as a result of differing opinions, and much more. Yet we endure. Our actions that can be prevented through alternative forms of expression, must be utilized and the actions of the few do not reflect upon the many. Fighting among ourselves must stop now. It is our unity which gives us strength and which our enemies seek to shatter. We must mend our fractures and endure, together. Not only for the sake of our Compact, but for our very survival.

In Service,
Sir Rymarr Lyonesse
First Captain of the Sovereign's Own Royal Guard

To the enemies of the Compact and His Majesty, I suspect you will no doubt wish to review the thoughts, journals, and memoirs of the incoming Lord Commander of the Sovereign's Own Royal Guard. I address this to you now. Do not allow us to be ambiguous. I am your enemy. I will remain your enemy. Efforts to dissuade me from that will fail. If it is within my power and ability, I will root you out, and I will destroy you. You undoubtedly must ask: why? You threaten the crown which I serve. You would end the life that I am sworn to protect with my own. This makes us enemies. Allow us no delusions: it is my will to wipe you from this world and sunder your machinations, permanently. I appreciate your reading onward and hope that I am able to provide the aforementioned destruction swiftly. Thank you.

Relationship Note on Darren

Never before did I ever believe I would find myself in the company of House Redrain's High Lord, drinking his whiskey in his private study, while we discuss various topics of interest. I also did not believe that my attempt to relax for an evening would ultimately result in my essentially working, while only adding whiskey to the mixture. Despite it all, it did allow me to relax for an hour or two, so that is something which I appreciate.

Further, the hospitality of Prince Darren Redrain is certainly commendable. He treats his guests with respect and appreciation, making them feel as though they were truly at home. For that, thanks must be given.

Relationship Note on Ida

A smith hailing from the Oathlands. As time progresses and the more often that we encounter one another in our mutual pursuit of business, the more I discover that we seem to discuss a variety of topics unrelated to our business. Recently I took Judge into her shop in order to conduct a fitting of a harness for his duties. Yet we spoke of the unattainable nature of perfection, her kitten Dopey the Devourer, His Majesty briefly, among other topics. The process of developing a harness for Judge continues, but progress has been made.

Overall I find her to be a respectful and direct person. Two qualities which I hold in some measure of high regard.

Judge seemed to like her. He didn't attempt to bite her at least. Which is nice.

It feels as though it has been an age since I first arrived in Arx. That first day I took my oath to His Majesty and began my duty alongside my fellow knights of the Sovereign's Own Royal Guard. It was, and is, an honor to serve alongside many of the greatest knights in all of Arvum. The King's Own operate within special circumstances, their sworn oath of loyalty held to the one who wears the Crown of the Compact. As a result they maintain a position of neutrality, their only concern being the protection of His Majesty and His interests. In effect this allows for a humble servant of His Majesty to look upon matters from afar and recognize when problems present themselves; without bias. Of course, I digress, as this is not the purpose behind this entry in my public memoirs.

No, this is to speak of the atmosphere of the city upon my first arrival. Jovial people walked the streets, talking of unity and cohesion, that no matter the danger looming on the horizon that we must always maintain our bonds of friendship to one another, within our Compact. Paramount to all we must remember that our survival is not segregated from one another, but instead dependent upon one another. How have those sentiments been so quickly forgotten? We now face infighting on a daily basis. It has not erupted into wholesale violence yet, but unless our people turn their eyes and the focus of their ire to the enemies quickly approaching our gates, it will. Do not forget those months ago, that now feel as though it were an age past, when unity was the word of the day. Mistakes have been made on the behalf of some, but it has been nothing which we can not rebound and progress from.

It is not something which I speak of regularly, but I will mention it now in the hope that it will provide some perspective. I have fought a Bringer. Alone? No. I, accompanying many others, fought off an attack cast toward our number in the Gray Forest. Threatened by Abandoned which had been corrupted and their apparent Bringer master, we defended ourselves against that attack. While many of the corrupted Abandoned sought to waylay those who traveled with the then Lady Regent Dawn and her retinue, the Bringer approached the Lady Regent herself. Faced by over a half dozen of the King's Own, a war hound, the Lady Regent, and myself - as well as a number of our companions which broke off from the fighting with the Abandoned once they were able - we engaged that thing. Cut upon cut, slash upon slash, stab upon stab, it endured. It took nearly half a score of armed, skilled, and determined men and women to see the thing felled. One. It took roughly ten warriors to fell one. It was not a feat which could have been easily, or readily, accomplished by a lone warrior. The resilience of that opponent was too great for a single sword to overcome. It took a coordinated effort to harry the thing until it could fight no longer.

Keep this in mind the next time you, or a loved one, may wish to cast stones within their own Compact. They should be readying their stones to be cast toward the forest and the tide that approaches. Unity must still be maintained and the schisms forming within ourselves must be mended. Threats remain within and such must be acknowledged. Our vigilance must be constant, though our petty squabbles must not. Return to the discussions of combined efforts and unity, the survival of the whole demands it.

In Service,
Sir Rymarr Lyonesse
First Captain of the Sovereign's Own Royal Guard
