I've been asked what happened to the pygmy goats I took with me when I left for the woods.
I out there over winter, without a proper plan or gear, but a good tracker doesn't need much. It wasn't a terrible season as far as winters go, but they can be hard and the pack I followed got hungry. I lost Mags to a bitch that birthed in the wrong season and I Rain was sacrificed for my own survival. I've no regrets, their deaths were painless. It was a lesson, to be sure, but not one I didn't already learn. Suppose it's fitting, in a way, with how I left and the whys.

I'm home again.
I'm staring at the life I left behind and it's like it belonged to someone else, the clothing, the jewelry, the odd-bits of memory-trinkets, the weaponry. I took my bow, something to my hair up, the dagger my mother gave me, and the clothing on my back when I left for the woods. Only once did I think of returning and then news delayed me for several months; I stayed in the wild to grieve among the trees.
But I'm home again. I'm cleaning out my rooms. I'm me and yet I'm not the me I was. It's been a year in the woods, eat, sleep, hunt, eat, sleep, the pack that keeps you warm and you follow, eat, sleep, hunt-

You should have a perch (pretty much a saddle) made for him to rest upon and gaze out over all that he surveys and disdains. All the better to judge us from.
Plus, it is safer for his wings that way too. (We all know how insufferable he would be if we were to break any of his perfect feathers.) And he can come and go as he may, all the better to Vex us.

I am thankful we all returned from the Neverwinter, perhaps a bit banged up and bruised, but we were successful in our endeavor and retrieved a weapon. A very large, heavy one at that. I think I will go out and visit with Barkfeather this week. And perhaps speak with the Unicorns about him, so that they know he is out there and that it is a safe place for them to go too.
Also, if you ever run across a Basilisk, you can scare one away by making the sound of a rooster crowing. It worked really well for us, glad Fia knew about it.

Rei, I would like nothing more in this world then get to be the midwife for you and Kael's first baby. It would be the /greatest/ honor to get to help you both welcome your most dearly loved one into this world. One that is full of love and brightness, and oh so much hope! It would be a welcome ray of sunshine in the light of all that has been happening. A sign to those that wish to harm this family and those it loves, that our unity and strength is a force to be reckoned with. And that no harm will come to Squall, so long as I can help it.

I am glad that we did not lose anyone during our mission earlier this week, though some were very wounded. Which I am sad to hear about but still happy that they will recover and be better soon, if not already. And also so proud of my family, friends, and those part of Valardin. Dame Ida and Sir Daemon, were so brave in their actions.

I know I should not be impatient, that this will take time. But the dread at times... I just want to hide in the stables or kennels, or in the maze in the Living Skein. And I admit, I do. Sometimes when I just need a moment of peace.
Thankfully on ships, the water is moving so there is no reflection to glimpse. Except when there is...
I am very grateful though to Princess Alis for taking me with her and allowing me the privilege of assisting her in the battle. Furthermore, I adore that she and I seemed both think that spooking and running the horses off the field was a good idea and decision. And that not many of them ended up injured.

Yesterday, I had the privilege to help put to rest an old spirit. One that had sacrificed their life to safeguard a once beautiful and sacred place. My heart aches at what was done to it, and to have seen the beauty and wonder it once held, to feel it's presence was something else. Ethereal and otherworldly. And then to watch as others ignorance and greed destroyed it, is slightly devasting and just a little heart-wrenching.
After experiencing this I wonder, what more can I do, to protect the land, the forests, the animals, the people? How else can I serve not just them, but Petrichor himself, so that we do not lose more ancient hidden places?
I am thankful, that Gaston is better, and we were able to remove the armband.
Petrichor, Great Lord of The Land,
Grant us your benevolence in our time of need,
Shelter us under your ancient branches,
Bless us with the wisdom to respect and cherish all that you give,
Guide us to be humble and thankful, and to show others the kindness you so freely share.
And last to welcome and protect those in need.

Death, as we know, comes to us all at some point, and earlier this week it came for many people. How it did and why is tragic and my heart aches for the loss of life that we experienced in Arx. I find it is still hard to fathom such an event, and yet it did happen. I join my cousins, Count and Countess Keaton in extending an offer of help and assistance to any that might need it.
This was not the only sorrowful event I saw recently, a group of us returned to some islands out in the Eventide Vast, looking to make contact with some local tribes of Abandon, as well as scout out the island, to map it and learn more about it. We found what is the most gruesome and grisly scenes I have ever seen in my life. Just thinking about it now... (some water stains on the page) ...I can not even begin to imagine how anyone would or could do such truly monstrous acts to children.

And she really is the most adorable little creature. With the hugest personality. But still. I am going to get you back Gaston.

Our patrol of the Grey forest for Princess Reese was successful in the way that we did come across more tainted animals. Six adult Lynxes, with a band of 15 Abandon that was traveling with the cats. Called themselves the Lynx Tribe. Sadly they were not interested in talking, and we had to deal with them. Though some of them we let go, after they were questioned by Shard and others in the group. Fiachra and I had no choice but to kill the cats, they were highly tainted and with no means to cure it or even an idea on how too, it was the best option.
The loss of life saddens me, as it doesn't have to be. And those beasts didn't ask to be tainted like that. It was done to them, and that is not right. And who or whom ever is doing it must be stopped. And I wish we didn't have to have killed some of Abandon tribe either, but that too was unavoidable. They were a danger, I... I could feel it, or knew it...
Or my knee... It's weird... it only started up after my injury healed. But since then it hurts, throbs, aches, itches at times when... ehh, it's probably nothing, just my mind making things up, over what is likely just coincidences. And my blood pumping in the heat of the moment.
