Relationship Note on Katarina
We came across Katarina at what I am sure was rather a low point for her, all things considered. Her story is hers to tell, of course, so I will not rehash it here. I will just say that she's been a delight to have with us, as a ward of Valardin. It seems that nothing will dampen her enthusiasm to forge ahead and learn a new way of life here in Arx. I only hope that I steer her in the right directions and am able to help her learn what she needs and wants to know, so she can make the kind of difference she'd like to.

Relationship Note on Fiachra
We joke sometimes, about being shadow and light. But I find it fitting in many ways. He is there whenever I need him. Behind me, beside me, in front of me - it all depends on where we are. I can shed the rank and the title and the demands and the expectations; I can drop any facade and just /be/. And like a shadow he can obscure me for as long as I need, and then step back out into the world refreshed. We compliment each other in so many ways, that I have no doubt we will be formidable as life partners.

Relationship Note on Nadia
Nadia and I became fast friends, once we had the chance to finally meet and speak with each other. She was a vibrant and vivacious personality, filling the room with energy wherever she happened to be. She brought out that energy in me, someone who is normally quiet and determined, but not what one would call playful. Unless I was with her. What we had in common from the moment we spoke, however, was an unrelenting desire to show Avrum that those who are small of stature can also be mighty. Together we would be unstoppable, we said. She proved half of that, at least. None can doubt that she was a fierce warrior and leader, as she stood fast with Nightgold forces, protecting them with her very life. There is no sacrifice mightier then that. We will always be together in memory, my friend. So I promise you I will still prove that we are unstoppable. I will see justice for you, Duchess Nadia Nightgold.

My sister-in-arms, taken from us. Just days earlier we laughed and spoke of pleasant things, finally able to take some time from our duties to indulge in a bit of overdue pampering together. A memory I will now treasure and hold dear to me, when I think of you.

There are times when I wonder, if maybe we added a few extra hours in the day I could get enough done that I didn't feel like I was simply treading water. But then I realize that in those few extra hours, there would simply be another disaster that would happen. And with it, a flood of messengers and the desire to stab something.

Note to self: Mead is delicious. Especially the blend with nutmeg and clove. It also gets you drunk very quickly. Much more quickly then say wine, or even whiskey. I'm almost certain a full bottle of mead could last me months.
My alcohol tolerance is a sad, sad thing. I'm going to blame it on the unfortunate combination of being short and the lack of alcoholic beverages except sacramental wine growing up. If you want to know how to steer your children away from alcohol, make them drink sacramental wine. It works.

The Teind was paid, and the Nox'Alfar broke /their/ word this time. We gave them what they said they needed. They got the blood of thirteen willing sacrifices, and with that sacrifice the Nox'Alfar are safe for another 169 years. As are we, from more Bringers being created. The Nox'Alfar have shown themselves to be a bloody, brutal, violent people. They think nothing of being eaten alive by spiders, or beheading people so they can be used as inkwells. And everyone really believes they would be insulted by anything we said? A people they don't even bother with unless they have to? No, I don't think so. I think they care absolutely nothing for us, or our lives. They may have been different in the past, when our former rulers made a treaty with them. I have no doubt at the time the treaty was drawn up, it was in the best interests of the Compact. That does not mean it is currently so.
I truly regret that there are those who believe we acted out of anything other then what we felt was best for the people of the Compact as a whole. There has been enough of our blood shed for the Nox'Aflar and I wish no more of it spilled for them. Those 13 sacrifices may have protected the Nox'Alfar, but they also prevent more Bringers from being created, and that protects us too, no matter what else happens.
They spent their time mocking us, and making people perform like trained pets for their pleasure, in order to hand out an unspecified number of weapons that would help fight demons - not Bringers - demons. Unless it was several military units worth of those weapons, I dare say they were playing us for fools.
I don't need an alaricite blade to fight a creature from the abyss. I, and others, have already faced one and defeated it. It will take courage, and cunning. It will take ingenuity and improvisation. I am Valardin. I am a Knight. I will not back down, and I will not give up. I will face whatever comes for us with my Faith and my Weapons and my Will. I know there are many others who will do the same.

An old friend from my days in training under the late Lord Commander Dayne. I've never quite been sure if it's a good thing or not that he can read me like a book - but then, that is exactly the sort of thing he's good at in general. Canny, clever, too smart, and a sometimes scathing wit that I am perhaps grateful has never been directed right at me.

I sincerely wish we had more hours available in the day, if only so that Princess Deva and I could finally go have that drink. We share quite a few things in common; and we are excellent table companions at the Regent's Council meetings thus far.

I know myself well enough to realize I can sometimes make brash, or hot headed decisions. And there are definitely limits to the extent of my knowledge.
What I do know, is that leadership is a double-edged sword. And there are times when there is no good, or right choice. Either way, people will suffer or die and that is ultimately on your hands and your conscience (Unless you are Prince Donrai). You have power, but you also have responsibility.
So, in those times when a split second decision is not required - most of us ask questions. I know of none that are mind readers yet, so it puzzles me how the Highlords are supposed to assume that the answers to all of their questions have already been answered and, without those answers being shared with them, should simply make a decision on the spot when there is, at least, a marginal amount of time in which to deliberate.
Perhaps our takeaway should not be: Oh no, people disagree with me and the world will end because of it and they suck...! Perhaps it should be a resolve for more open communication in the future between those who are apparently gathering all of these answers, and those who need the information to make informed decisions. With no finger pointing in either direction as to the fault of the past lack thereof.

I, for one, have enjoyed watching the Southport training facility be used for everything from casual sparring, to full training events held so that leaders in other houses can see how the Lady General trains her troops.
I hope others take advantage of this opportunity as well.

Relationship Note on Percephon
I believe we shall get along quite well. He obviously has very little problem in voicing his opinion, and while he also lacks tact or subtlety, his observations do strike right at the heart of a matter. I can quite readily see myself trusting him as an advisor. Not necessarily completely impartial, no. But one who has Telmar and Valardin's best interests in mind. And more importantly, the fate of the realm on his mind.
