Description: Hugo has a thin, athletic build, with scraggly and unkempt brown hair he keeps under a sailor's cap. He has hazel eyes and tanned skin. He is somewhat muscular from his time on the ships. He prefers to keep his face shaved, and because of this, his somewhat boyish face and short stature looks is a reminder how young Hugo truly is, frustrating his attempts to be taken seriously.
Personality: Optimistic to the point of hubris, moreso in his older brother. Doesn't have a overly strict moral code, in terms of lying or stealing if the target is not a good person. Tends to be spontanious and hot-headed. Hates making plans and wants to jump right into action. Hates wasting time.
Background: As the youngest son of a noble family, he was a bit pampered, spoiled even. At age eight Hugo wanted to be a street performer, and then a magician. His father said those jobs weren't appropriate for a highborn, but Hugo's mother indulged him.
Then at 10 Hugo decided he wanted to become a guild assassin. Again, his father said it wasn't a nobleborn profession, as well as wildly illegal for obvious reasons and no such guild exists, but mother said it was kind of cute, and bought him toy daggers (with trick blades) so he could "assassinate" his siblings.
Next, Hugo discovered a wonderful interest in mixing chemicals. Poisons (of course, only used on pests such as rats), cures and even minor explosives. His parents, seeing his unavoidable interest, gave him a tutor, so at least he'd learn the arts of Apothecary safely.
When his older brother, Salazar was 20, and Hugo was 14, his brother ran off to be a privateer. It hadn't even occurred that someone could do something like that. 4 years later, Hugo snuck off, and found his brothers ship in a port and snuck aboard. Of course his brother was angry but eventually allowed him to join his crew.
