In normal years, I find my mood adapts and follows the changing of the seasons. Old memories appropriate for the time recalled and reminisced over, new ones forged that are fitting. Quite the opposite this year. Spring and summer saw me sunk into melancholy, bitter for the loss of long forged relationships that moved on. Understandably so, in their case - to things that, had I the opportunity, I would have pursued as well. But emotions do not follow rhyme and reason, now do they? Fall brought with it a kindling of hope. A desire to create new things, new ideas, even if they were unformed as if lost beneath the spring snows that were melting, rather than perishing upon the limb like the leaves of autumn. And now, as winter comes, new friends have been made, in large part thanks to the dealings of the Duchess Malespero. I am indeed very lucky that amongst her many skills is a subtle understanding of knowing when two people will have mutual interests to pursue, complimentary abilities to get those interests done, and are like minded enough to know it is better to work together.

Relationship Note on Anisha

While details will come in the future as to the exact matters I've had the pleasure to discuss with the Softest Anisha, I would be remiss if I did not make note of her welcoming demeanor, sharp mind, and probing questions. It has given me confidence that the work we shall do together will not only be fruitful, but have the right intent at the heart of things. My only regret? Is I didn't get around to asking her just how soft the softest is. Inquiring minds wish to know!

Given the offers of climbing tree fun you've already been gifted with, I'll write to simply say I? Adore surprises!

After untold amounts of preparation, the Kismet Carnival was held here in Arx, bringing a taste of the myriad of games and acts that take place across all of Arvum. I would be remiss if I didn't think my patron and sponsor of the event, the Marquessa Lianne Malespero, and my protege Sloane Starling. Without their aid and support, it never would have happened. So many came to partake in these dark and troubled times, yet we all saw the light, the reason we fight, the method of our victory assured by our unity of purpose as all of Arvum.

Such things, with conflicts already transpiring, larger ones upon the horizons, and deaths here in closer to Arx itself, are easy to get lost. But I find a need to put down in writing the fate of the Kismet Carnival in Redreef Shores. While in transit from one village to another, these entertainers and workers were attacked. Nearly half of the carnival was killed, a deed for which Thraxian Traditionalists took the credit. Their hatred of outsiders, the fact that so many of the workers were formerly freed Thralls drove them to use murder to make a point.

Thankfully, the Baroness Ember and so many others have helped band together to see not only this particular problem dealt with, but that future carnivals will be safe as well. I've donated a sizeable sum already to see to the burials of the fallen and to take care of their families, and now? I will make my point in return.

If you are a former Thrall? I will employee you. If you are someone looking to start a new life, to better yourself and leave behind the chains of your past? I will find work for you. I have set aside a sizeable sum of silver for setting up business in Port Venture for any commoner that has an idea, any thrall that wishes to learn a new craft. There are positions for merchant marines, those guards who will oversee the safety of the carnivals and breweries across Arvum. If these assailants believed that they would create fear by killings? I will give new beginnings to a hundred times the people that they have robbed of life.

Relationship Note on Medeia

It is rare to meet someone who has not only a compelling story to tell, but one that intersects, even if tangentially, to your own. I had the enjoyment to hear a small sliver of the Lady Medeia's this past afternoon while we worked on a collaborative brew. Just like the best drinks put into casks, I feel that this friendship will only get better over time.

Relationship Note on Sloane

My new protege, whom, I dare say, will make quite a splash within Arx - and across all of Arvum. If you ever find yourself curious about what the Raconteur or Kismet carnivals might offer you for various occasions, don't hesitate to reach out to Ms. Starling. I promise, any excuse for a meeting with her will be time well spent.

It has been warming to hear all of the interest and questions surrounding the upcoming Kismet Carnival - and I can promise, all with the wonderful patronage of the House Malespero and the Marquessa Lianne, it will be a show none will forget. Games of all sorts to practice your skill and luck upon, acts that defy gravity, and stories that will offer inspiration for the months to come.

Relationship Note on Khanne

The Duchess was the other co-host for last eve's event. Always ready with laughter and free with her emotions, she is happy to take things as they are on the surface - even if she may not fully buy into them. To say she is the opposite of the Marquessa is not quite accurate, but certainly a perfect complement indeed for my patron. I look forward to seeing what these two get up to next.

Relationship Note on Lianne

The Marquessa was a co-host last eve at the Eidolon Gallery. A fantastic event, and the paintings and songs to be had there? Were mesmerizing. As expected, she probed, poked, sought to see how my luck might be explained by skill, cunning, wit or sheer intellect. And as always, it was a pure delight. I hope, but am not certain, that I shall see the day her options for reasoning away my serendipity runs dry. If only I could be so lucky!

As luck would have it, it proved to be an eventful week right when I come back to Arx after a lengthy journey through Arvum. Too much, of course, to capture my thoughts here, save to say this: it pleases me that the Marquessa Lianne understands both the time necessary to do my work, and is more than happy to sponsor the Kismet Carnival of Arx this summer. In these times especially, we all could use a bit of a distraction, something to enjoy and ground us.

Relationship Note on Caprice

I had the pleasure of meeting Mistress Caprice in the Raconteur one evening, where we shared stories and thoughts on what makes a fine drink. In addition, I had learned at the time of her own work in the arts, specifically with cloth of all kinds. I've had the good luck for an excuse to engage her services, and so far? The experience has been downright delightful. Taking what vague, fleeting thoughts of an idea crossed my mind, she has been able to capture it in concept far better than I could have hoped.

Relationship Note on Faye

It proves the most enlightening thing to see how the same character trait produces different results in people. My curiosity has produced an insatiable desire to experience everything there is out there, the highs and lows, the good and bad. In the Inquisitor Faye it creates finding the puzzles in everything. It means conversations with her leave me often with more questions than answers, but in the most delightful way.

Relationship Note on Luca

It isn't the afternoons in the taproom that I spent with Prince Luca that springs to my mind when I think of the man. Not the first thoughts. Rather, I recall vividly the occasions of the afternoons instead that a justifiably, righteously irate princess Ophelia threatened to tell the Fox Prince to storm the Raconteur. I, of course, would wave my hand around at the copious amounts of alcohol, putting on a face of bravado that he'd get far too distracted before actually finding me. But deep down, we both knew the truth: Luca was a man of many things, but one undeniable element was the bonds of family, especially to his sister. I've no doubt if it came down to it, he'd have stormed the place and defended her honor just as she wished. Most likely with a mug of alcohol in his hand. And he'd have made it look far too easy in doing both things at once.

I've finally signed the last contract able to be filled with this round of expansion. I'd like to thank all of the Houses and people who have assisted in the efforts to bring the Raconteur breweries and carnivals to new parts of Arvum, along with the the focus of the stories, entertainment, and revelry for this fall that will extend into winter and surely spring. Now comes the execution, turned over to those who know best: building the breweries, hiring the entertainers, finding and cultivating the farmland. For any whom I couldn't get to due to the timing of activities, don't worry. I'm always happy to make myself available to help out in individual projects as there is interest.

It's been a wonderful time getting to meet new people from across Arvum as I look to expand the carnivals and breweries into new parts of the world. From Nightgold to Crovane, Ashford to Redreef, Inverno to Harthall and so many more, it is truly amazing both in how each area has their own unique feel and what they are proud of and wish to celebrate... and the common threads they all share. I hope to recruit a few more yet to the cause of spreading cheer, enjoyment, and stories that move people to tears and laughter, heartache and hope. If any are out there that are interested in such a partnership with their house? Feel free to send me a messenger.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

Guild Mistress, I thought I'd just point out that *cider isn't necessarily better for the boy. As you've seen from several of my samples, cider can pack more of a punch than an ale might... I do hope you clarified that it was of the non-alcoholic variety!

It's times like these that we must remember those in the farthest reaches of Arvum, in villages scattered across the lands. That they need something to lighten their day, to lift their spirits. Stories of love and loss, despair and hope, things that connect them and remind them that we all share common threads of humanity with one another. It's this very thing that the Kismet Carnivals are intended to do.

While it is still in the very earliest stages of planning, efforts are taking place to expand those carnivals into new lands, to forge new partnerships. To those houses who have already pledged their support, and the trade, morale, and pride it shall bring? You have my thanks. If there are others out there that are so equally interested, my door is open and I respond to every messenger, and I am always eager to discuss what those partnerships can bring to help out the common man and woman in all corners of Arvum.

Relationship Note on Chiara

It's good to see Mistress Tavetti back safe and sound in her temporary home of Arx after what sounds like quite some time at sea and in various ports. However, I'm not sure if Arx is prepared for her return. Either way, Malespero Tower will be even more lively than normal for the moment.
