Relationship Note on Arik
Very wisely written my Lord. Too often do I see people in power only make a move when they feel that they will have everyone's approval. This is a disastrous way to lead as this kind of person will hesitate to make the right decisions for their people, even if it is the unpopular one. As if the opinions of people they don't know or are unlikely to ever meet actually matters more than administrating and cultivating the prosperity and well being of a people, domain, family or business should be secondary to clout.

As I got not but ten paces from the archives I realized I needed to turn back around and document my thoughts on another matter entirely. I am so proud of my kinsmen who go to sea with the fires of devotion to deal with this pirate menace. My pride extends to the Favored servants of Ischia - Nijah and Starra Serrano and to the allies who have joined us on this great but simple endeavor to reclaim lost lands and enforce the King's justice upon those who have long since broken oaths and run recklessly afoot. Tolerance is the first step to complacency I've been told but neither I nor the Marquis are willing to leave such a situation withstanding.
My thanks go to Princess Coraline and the Order of East Light, to House Pravus and our beloved Duchess, who has returned to us, for lending her most able Sword. To the Baroness Blackshore and her sublime Lady Iseulet, who is like blood of our own here in Ischia, we are grateful. For the Lady Miranda and the Duchess Grazia for her cooperation and support of this campaign. To the people of House Seraceni for giving us the strength, tenacity, privilege, and power to make this possibility a reality. Finally, to the Siren of Redwater Cove for the challenge and opportunity to show Gloria our mettle, our honor and our strength.
We will succeed at any cost but none of us believe the cost is too high for freedom and justice. For the morality of the Houses, organizations, and supportive people who continue pouring into Ischian waters with their flotillas, their armies and their courage -- thank you.

Now, I do come in here completely blind as I chose not to indulge in several of the newest white journal entries. There's a small mass of people who've congregated around some of the tables to get a read on the situation, pun intended. As such, I realized that the contrarian opinion albeit an unpopular one might be a question that I am very curious to have answered and that question is, has the Whisper House ever fallen into disfavor?
As stated this journal entry is a simple thought experimentation on the lessons of the 13th and I like to reflect on these things and admit my failings, I am most certainly not to insinuate anything at all about the Whisper House or it's establishment and anyone who walks away from this particular historical curiosity with anything more has missed the point entirely. I should be educated on this, but I happen not to be and I am okay acknowledging this.

Faruq doesn't really drink wine darling but I do. The next bottle is on me. The Duke and Duchess of Crovane can attest to just how potent the wine is...but don't ask them about the man who set himself on fire at dinner and no matter what you're already, most likely, thinking - Malika didn't do it this time. It's my belief that she didn't but if you were to ask my opinion...well, I think she would under the right circumstances.

On the subject of opinions and whether or not they can be wrong, I will clarify. No. They can be more adequate or less adequate, more or less well formed and argumented, but not wrong per se. Subjectivity is not subjected (no pun intended) to clear-cut, binary values of truth like "right" or "wrong". The objective source from which they stem, of course, can be true or false, right or wrong, correct or incorrect. I can say that every opinion about this subject other than my opinion is wrong or I could say that apples taste like shit. Now the former is misguided, yes, but no one could argue with the latter because it's /my/ opinion and nobody could truthfully refute that I believe apples taste like shit. It's a mistake to say an opinion and belief are the same thing as they are not. One is a stance taken on a belief and the other is an acceptance that the statement in question is true or that something exists. Your statement about apples for example would be a belief and not an opinion.
On the other hand some people's opinions can be quite stupid sometimes.
I won't bother wasting any more pages in my white journal on this as I have truly lost interest. As of this period right here.

My duties as a Mirrormask are something I take very seriously and serving as Tehom's advocate is something I do often. The Dark Reflection represents the necessity of a contrary opinion in order to have a more complete grasp of any issue. After all it is my duty to be a guardian of the minority opinion, to make certain that certain viewpoints don't get extinguished or lost in the passions of the day. It helps me channel my passions and maintain a very grounded perspective on just what's what. Now. One thing I respect is a keen mind, sharp quill, etcetera but what I always find amusing is the overabundance of enthusiasm and self satisfaction some people take from believing they've gotten under someone else's skin.

An opinion can be /misguided/ but no. As per the definition of opinion it is a statement of one's own personal beliefs about something. I felt that lady Reigna's example takes away the very meaning and purpose of an opinion. It isn't used to state fact.
It's a stance one takes on perspective.
However since we're on the subject of verbiage. Less is often more and trying to educate someone while taking a very constrained and haughty approach will always be insulting and never taken in any other way than to be condescending.

The interesting thing about an opinion is that it is a belief or attitude about something that isn't necessarily based on facts. Indeed someone can have an opinion you don't share, which is fine, but there is no /right/ or /wrong/. Those are our thoughts about the subject in particular, generally formulated by one's own beliefs and experiences.
So in short. If Faruq uses his white journal to document his opinion then my /informed/ opinion is that he is using the thing as intended. The wonderful thing is though you don't even have to agree for /that/ to be a fact because it is indeed something we don't have to share.

When I dreamt I was also waking from a dream. Within my dream I looked around me and felt this place was not the place I knew and when my eyes turned to the sky I screamed in terror. The stars were all staring and I knew that there was something there, an intelligence greater than anything previously imaginable staring down at me.
An alien sky that was so bright and clear, the plane I was upon shining with the light of shimmering stars.
My heart hammered and I hid behind an outcropping of rocks until /they/ found me....I never want to see It again but I know when I close my eyes I will. It will be waiting for me like it has for centuries. I fear for this longing, for the longing of It but I must master my passions lest I wake up screaming as I did before.

Let it be known this will be the last act of clarification I will make on the matter as any attempt to try and diffuse the situation has been seen as an act of aggression. As it was taught to me by the Scholar whom so kindly provided the greater part of my education:
"Due to the autonomy, traditionally the bannerlords execute very little control over their bannermen- a baron taking any action to the welfare of his own barony is not expected to have to inform his count, nor is the marquis holds the banners for two counts below him and their baronies below them expected to keep his bannermen informed of every decision he passes or seek their counsel. On any given day I'd agree. Yet when evidence of inside information being given to the enemies of the Compact (for the purposes of sabotage, plunder and impacting the livelihood of our domain) then it's imperative to proceed with caution. Nobody is going to be accused of anything but those who have come forward to clear their good names are received without suspicion.
This was not an embargo. It was a simple ask that any /military/ vessels in our, admittedly small, patch of ocean that were not conducting military operations with us please depart. The enemy has taken sails and used other identifiers to masquerade themselves as members of the Compact. Again, we don't need to state just whose sails as that would be slanderous but the point being.
Espionage is good reason to withhold intimate details but for the sake of argument I have indeed reached out to the Duchess and was referred to a vassal whom I was never able to meet with. Amidst the current crisis that one of the Compact's own is going through, I have received offers of support from unlikely new associates and allies. Yet on the flip side I've also received a disheartening and disturbing missive from my own Liege whom decided that using the sovereign authority within our own lands was an act of insurbordination and ensued with threats! As outlandish as this seems I have literally brought the missive here and asked the scholars to place it within the pages of my white journal for all to read.

Being as new to the city as I am, I have to wonder, what even is the worth in a Patron? What are they supposed to provide that one can't take for themselves? I understand the meaning of political alliances, I do, but each is supposed to be a well of mutual benefit. When it is no longer so then does it not behoove one to revisit the notion on whether or not it is a viable, long term arrangement to have?
We're all allies, in theory, we being the Compact and the Houses of course.
Yet even within that there are divisions of systems and lands in such a way that can only beckon a burgeoning competition for the resources within. Inevitably when one lands water runs dry they will look to the next to be quenched and only through war or diplomacy shall there be a resolution but when a people are thirsty, they will do anything for a glass of water.
