While an admirable defense, you failed to see the point.
In both cases, people died and were mourned. In both cases necessity, or a higher cause, demanded another fill the void left with their death.
And in both cases, someone failed to do as they should and sparked outrage.
Whether a special sword or a title, once either is obtained, the weight and consequences of that choice follow. The actions of those with such increased duties are looked upon with greater scrutiny.
Because a title with a "coronet" comes with the lives that depend upon the decisions of their liege, as a special sword is more than a blade with a fancy name.

Ah, Aviaron's Keep. Freja and I had many plans for the place. Projects. Dreams.
And then she was blinded and murdered.
I won't lie and pretend my new life, or old one depending on how you look at it, did not allow me to escape a place that had grown haunted. By false dreams, broken promises and my beloved reduced to ash upon her funeral pyre.
We had been considering having children. Imagine that.
Yet, in the end, what took me away from the march was family. Eleyna is a formidable woman, and I'm sure she proved she could handle things without my being present. Yet is that excuse enough to ignore the duty carried by blood and parentage?

There would be many more nobles among us if every one who has offered decades of honourable and noble service, even saving the life of their liege on many occasions, if we promoted to the ranks of the Peers such individuals.
To the surprise of none, I am of the middle path. The worthy should be rewarded, yet some traditions must be held if we are to maintain any cohesion as a people. Inevitably, this will further burden the ranks of the Peerage, yet as Marquessa Reigna suggested, there's plenty of land before we reach that point.
Complaining about the addition of new members among the Peers is pointless. Expressing doubt as to the qualities that led one to be thus promoted, is entirely natural. Just as one should expect their stalwart defense by their dear friends.

The Catharsis saw a surprising amount of participation. It also saw no sudden deaths, no breaking of furniture, nor spontaneous fires breaking out within the Ward.

While we're on the subject of knighthood, perhaps some of the Godsworn knights might want to share their perception of how Tehom might be involved in their duties or very life as a knight sworn to the service of the Gods.
