Axes. Straightforward, effective, good heft. Good for chopping, good for bludgeoning. My husband buys them for me and they're the best gifts. Axes all the way.

Relationship Note on Jonathan

You looked like you'd walked into a door. Repeatedly. You were a complete state. But as far as I'm aware you didn't sing any vulgar songs, so that's a small mercy for the happy couple, at least.

Relationship Note on Kaine

There's something to be said about people who actually put in the time and effort to make their ambitions a reality. It's an admirable trait.

Good work in your shop too. Quality goods, from what I've seen.

Marie's recipes are so good that even /I/ can't stop eating what I bake. I'm getting so well-padded around the hips that I'm almost on the verge of having to lie down just to pull my trousers on.

I also feel like Marie needs to find employment outside of Keaton Hall, or I'm going to be five times as big as I am already by the time winter rolls in. At least I'll have enough fat on me to survive, I guess.

Not even sure why I lied about dying my hair in the last record.

Thoughts for today.

* Cheese twist was a success. Give recipe to Ada and get pie recipe from Marie. Bake pies.
* Stop darkening hair? For: Walnut rinse is expensive and messy. Against: I'll get accused of copying Commandant Marjawn again.
* Thank the Gods that the chickens eat most of the spiders at home. Nothing worse than running around the room with a glass and a piece of paper in hand. To the sound of high pitched screaming.
* Sharpen axes. Train. Get bow. Shoot arrows. I've gotten lazy.

Alright. It seems like recording useless details is more addictive than I thought it would be.

Relationship Note on Austen

Cheese twist and I baked it myself. I'll send you some if you like. They haven't poisoned the husband yet so I don't think they're too bad. (And before any of the Blades make smart comments -- yes, I bake. There's no reason why I can't.)

I sometimes think about adding more stuff to my journal, but then I remember that nobody is interested in the pastry I ate that morning, or whatever.

You can't win all the people all the time, as my dad would say.

He was drunk quite a lot of the time, but still.

I'm not a writer or a scholar or a poet, or whatever. But there are times when I need to throw some words at the whites, and this is one of them.

Thank you, Commandant Violet Marjawn, for being a skilled teacher, an inspiring leader and a great friend to me. Without you, I don't think I would have managed to find my feet here. I extend these thanks to all my fellow Blades, and of course to Lord General Tobias Telmar, wherever he may be.

House Keaton, thank you for giving me another place to call home. I'd name you all, but you know that I regard you all in the same vein. Suffice to say your generosity is endless, both towards myself and others like me who live in your lands. I've never felt as though I'm just a commoner in your household, nor just a servant. I consider myself lucky to be a friend to your family, and also to others who maintain close ties to the house, including Sir Norwood Clement.

Of note in this, Lady Tessa Moore, thank you for your constant support and kindness. Acorn Hill rules, even if I chose not to stay. Cheese rolling, ferret-legging and pumpkins forever.

To my husband, Jonathan, thank you especially. I'm not a easy person to deal with. I hope we live long enough to see our grandchildren born, if you haven't run off with a traveling merchant by then, or some such. I would not blame you. For now, I'm happy to be a Fieldstone, and I look forward to getting to know your family.

I've probably forgotten someone. If so, apologies. I'll send you a gift or something. Anyway, gone on too long, so I'll end it here.

Relationship Note on Violet

Thank you, Commandant Violent. That means a lot to me.

By the way, do you have any of that gift-whiskey going spare? I think I'm going to need it in the future.

(I'm actually very happy. Don't let my face fool you next time we see each other. That's just my face.)

So what if Countess Keaton isn't firing out snappy quips every other minute? Commoners don't really care about that kind of thing, as long as they have food on their table and a safe place to live. She's as good as her word to the people under her care. That's all that matters, as far as I'm concerned anyway.

Also, thinking about the subject of marriage, I'm really glad I'm not a noble. Ring on finger, a few words, job done. Doesn't work out? No worries. Just move on and hope for better in the future. Makes life simpler.

No more carousing for me. I had fun, but now the time has come to take things seriously.

Back to work, back to training, back to focus and discipline.

I considered expressing regret and shame at my undignified behavior the other night, but I did what I did and there's no taking it back now. I can live with that. I would however like to make my apologies to anyone I may have directly or indirectly mistreated during the event. It wasn't my intention to cause harm or offense, and I can say that with certainty despite having few memories of the night in question.

A good deal of what I do recall was extremely hilarious, that being said.
