For My Noble Mountain
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sentiments are noble,
And so are you.
Orchids are white,
Ghost ones are rare,
Fog is thick,
And so is your hair.
Magnolia grows,
With buds like eggs,
Your system is muscular,
And so are your legs.
Sunflowers reach,
Up to the skies,
My sun is dazzling,
And so are your eyes.
Foxgloves in hedges,
Surround the farms,
Force is strong,
And so are your arms.
Daisies are pretty,
Daffies have style,
The way is boyish,
And so is your smile.
A mountain is beautiful,
Just like you

I am not a fan of the Grand Melee. Oh, I know it is a great honor to Gloria, but do we not have enough enemies to prove our devotion to her, rather than beating upon one another?
Still. It does provide my healers with plenty of practice.
Kael showed so well this year! He endured to the final three, surviving warriors of near legendary renown. I am so very happy for him, despite the bruises cuts and overall aches he is going to have to deal with.

Relationship Note on Kael
Four years ago this day, a frightened young woman walked into the Shrine of Limerance in a brand new gown. It was the finest gown she'd ever called her own. A simple thing of linen and white lace with a blue silk trim and pale blue beading. She stood at the altar, her mother to one side, and watched as a trip of men approached. She had no idea which one was to be her husband and she shook to her toes. The handsomest and youngest of the three stepped forward and wordless, picked up the quill to sign his name on the parchment. Sealing the contract that forever bound their lives together.
What began with awkward glances and uncomfortable silences has grown into a powerful partnership, a devoted friendship and an unexpected romance. Marrying into Keaton has been one of the greatest changes in my life. I thank the gods daily for the life I have. The successes I have contributed to. I thank them for the best friend I have ever known. I thank them for providing me a fantastic father to my children. I thank them for the love of my life.
And I thank you, Marquis Kael Keaton. For being open to the possibility that we might share the same ideals. For being brave enough to trust me when I was still a stranger. For taking a chance on an unknown young lady and showing her through thoughtful words and deeds that she could trust you too.
My life began four years ago this day.

Beloved. She is here, and she is perfect. From the dark crown of curls to her perfect tiny toes. Our darling Brianne Wildfire joins Aeryn Squall, Talis Storm and our precious Kata. I never thought to be able to hold this much love in my heart. My determination to make this world a better place grows day by day. One day our children will inherit this land of ours, and our task is to ensure that the world they find themselves in is as great as we can make it. To that end I know you and I will do our best to make the Compact as strong as possible. Strong enough to weather any coming storm. It is on us to try to encourage the growth and stability of our lands, our fealties, our Kingdom. Together I know we can do this. Together we are unstoppable. I mean, *really*. Have you seen our children? They are each incredible.

There is none more worthy of this new position than the Marquis Kael Keaton. There has been no other I have seen who displays true honor so constantly. I know great things will come from this.
Marquessa Reigna Keaton has been a steadfast and capable public figure since I have known her, and a willing teacher. She seems always ready to lend a hand, and not only to those of her fealty, but outside of it as well.
Finally, something that makes sense! I would send a present to mark the occasion, but they would just find a way to turn it back on me so graciously and charitably that I wouldn't even be able to complain!

Words can never really do justice to the swell of pride and joy I felt when I heard the news of the Assembly. The Keatons as a whole have made such remarkable strides not only in Arx, but across the realm. Each member serving some role of import and yet never losing that warmth that the burden of duties sometimes sap such from people. Their generosity to me, personally, is something I will always be honored and grateful for, of course, so perhaps I am a touch inclined to kind regard when it comes to them. Still, this achievement is well-deserved after their efforts and I don't think I could be happier for them all. I count myself fortunate to call them friends.

Although my duties to the Queen prevented me from being there in person, I cannot help but extend by warmest congratulations to Marquis Kael and Marquessa Reigna Keaton. Their work on behalf of Oakhaven has been nothing short of extraordinary. Although they were not Telmar's vassals, even from afar I could see all the work they had done on behalf of their people to grow, prosper, and secure the futures of all of their citizens.
There are few more-worthy of the honor bestowed upon the Keatons at the Assembly of Peers. May Oakhaven March long prosper.

Count Kael and Whisper Natalia are to be greatly praised for their work preparing the Academy of War. They continue a grand tradition of teaching the martial arts (and its allied disciplines) that stretches back all the way to the great shining City of Caer'alfar.
I wish them all success in their efforts. And I look forward to adding my knowledge, to the extent I am able, as an instructor.

I can highly recommend Dame Morrighan, Mistress Aurora, and Mistress Petal as far as clothing goes. That is no slight to any others in the city - it is that I am most familiar with their work, which is stunning and inspired beyond measure. Either way, I would welcome the chance to meet Lord Talis! Really, any time Keatons cross my threshold, it is a wonderful day.
I think, instead, it will be me who is lucky to forge weapons for Aeryn, Talis and Kata, meant respectfully my lord. To be honored to put blades in the hands of another generation of Keatons is without description, and one I promise to do should I remain in this world long enough to do so.

While doing some sketches, my mind wandered to the blade I recently made for Lord Rohran Keaton and how difficult it can be to blend the hues of green and purple together in a pleasing fashion. While I certainly would never judge any house for their colors, I just got to wondering as to why Keaton would favor those. This lead me to seek out the shelves where all my books of notes and references reside. Leafing through to Keaton, it very plainly says, 'Verdant green and black,' beneath the sigil, which itself is also quite verdant green and black. It made me wonder WHY, by oaths and steel, the color purple has stuck so in my mind when it came to creating things for House Keaton. As I keep all of my commission sketches and notes in a chest, that was my next destination. Eventually I found what I do believe was the first thing I ever made for the Count, as well as my notes related to it. Aha. From a January 1007 missive:
"The colors of House Keaton are verdant green and black, though purple looks quite fair upon my wife. Green and purple? I will leave the matter to you and trust your good taste in this judgement in what will look best for the set."
It seems I have accidentally made purple an unofficial color for House Keaton because the Count likes how it looks upon his lovely wife, the Countess Reigna.
Both my sincerest apologies along with the hope that it might possibly prove to be an affectionate family anecdote in some way.

Relationship Note on Kael
Not so long ago, my siblings, cousins and I are the youngest generation of Keatons. We were the ones growing up and trying to fill our parent's shoes. I still think of myself as someone's daughter, someone's niece.
Not many years later, we are now staring in wonderment at the newest generation of Keatonlets. As of yesterday, I have become an Aunt for the fourth time. As we celebrate the birth of Lord Talis Keaton, I am still amazed that we are already preparing to groom the next generation.
The Count and Countess have been very diligent and efficient in manufacturing a steady stream of heirs for the family. If there is one thing I can say for Kael, it is that he is clearly a man of boundless energy.

I feel as though there must be some honor in me, if a man like Count Kael Keaton is willing to allow my assistance in his noble endeavor. It is my greatest desire not to let him down. To that end, I will be fundraising a substantial amount of silver to provide scholarships for those prospective warriors and knights from the Lowers who wish to enroll in Count Keaton's Academy of War and may not have the tuition to do so. These people are no less heroic, no less brave for their lack of coin. They are deserving and I can think of no finer example to give them of all that they may become than the Count of Keaton.
But this is not something I can do on my own.

Every day. Every day I count my blessings. Every day I say thank you to Limerance.
I am a noble and the course of my life was not mine to pick. I thought that perhaps I would be able to find that freedom. To lay down my responsibility, surrender my name and embrace a future full of my own choices. To take command of my decisions. To be Reigna Godsworn.
And yet that future, that path was veered from. And in its place a new path was taken. Perhaps not one I would have picked, but one that I did choose. I chose to honor my family. I chose to embrace my duty, my responsibility instead of picking what I *wanted*. I chose to serve.
And in so doing, I made the single best choice of my life. By following my duty, by fulfilling the honor of my House, by denying the selfish impulse to follow my desires over duty, I was wed to Kael Keaton, Count of Oakhaven.
It was difficult. For both of us, at first. We met at the Shrine of Limerance where we signed our contacts. I walked back with him to the Valardin Ward and into a room at the Sleepless Knight, strangers. Unspeaking. The adjustment from being a singular I and turning into a We was not something that happened right away. Communication takes time. But from the first, we found in one another, a mutual appreciation of the importance of duty, a responsibility to work for the success of the people of Oakhaven. An acknowledgement that success built at the foundation might take longer, but yields a more stable and sustainable future. As we spoke, as we recognized the dreams we had in common, as we became united in our goals we became united as a couple. Responsibility and duty became... the greatest love I have ever known.
He is my greatest friend. My most trusted ally. He is the foundation upon which I stand. With him I am secure. I am proud. I am fierce. With him I look forward and into the future.
